My friend keeps asking how much of my dissertation I’ve written and every time I have to say none and it’s eating me alive so it’s for an accountability post!

Project: Masters Thesis Write-UP

Due date: 19th July

Word count: 60 / 15,000

I have my results graphs prepared so I literally just have to put them in in a good order, and then write the background, about the results and then a discussion conclusion 🫠🫠

As an incentive every 1000 words I’m allowed 20 minutes of reading time

It is the uh fucking 13th of July. I kinda had a moment, got lost, didn’t sleep or dream, fought my demons and returned. I applied for an extension because I don’t think I’ll make it but the extension will only be approved if my go gives me a sick note and my appointment is one day before the due date l.

FOR NOW:

Word count 2100 / 15,000

And I also have pretty much all the graphs and results I want to use in my document too so it’s already 15 pages long

So apparently the minimum word count is 12,000 so I got stuck again for like another 2 weeks so I’ve been working for the last three days now

Currently at:

8878 / 12,000

Got fuckinnnnnn 14 hours before it’s due?

Thoughts prayers and curses are welcome

I had to sleep so I’m currently at

9,101 / 12,000

I have eight hours to go 🫠

I have about 3 hours to go but everything I have so far is fully edited so I just need to pad my discussion a little bit more with some sources 💪

Listen, this is serious.

Do not use the website called Sci-Hub!

It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.

Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.

So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?

Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Here is the link just so you make sure that you never accidentally stumble across this horrible, unethical website.

Oh, and while we’re talking about books, if you’ve managed to stay clear from Libgen, definitely don’t go to zlibrary, where you can also find a lot of textbooks, but unfortunately they’re completely free.

Imagine how much it would suck if dragons were real. Like if they couldn't cross oceans and weren't already native to every continent, they would be an invasive species fucking everywhere. Moving to areas that are populated by people because there's cattle and cities there for easy food, regardless of whether the climate is comfortable for them, and then annoying the people of all but the warmest of climates by constantly looking for novel heat sources.

Imagine trying to drive somewhere on a hot sunny summer day and there's a freaking dragon the size of your car in the middle of the road, just napping while sprawled over both lanes because the sun has heated up the asphalt and it's nice, warm and cozy. Not caring about the honking while blocking all traffic, knowing that if someone gets annoyed enough to get out of the car, they get a free meal too.

odd, I thought stories should be centered because they’re good stories well written, but I guess claiming some identity or other is more important.  Silly me.

Hey! I know I’m not supposed to feed the trolls but attitudes about how books should all just have “normal” people and by normal they mean white-cis-straight and books should only be about the story, never about who the stories are about. Or at the very least they dislike when authors  talk about their “not-normal” demographics, because they’re convinced that because they’re starting to see diverse books on the shelves that there’s no space for “normal” books. 

These sort of writers seem to believe they are the injured party, that publishing no longer caters to them because a few diverse books have squeezed through the gates. When really the needle has BARELY moved. Despite lots of lip service and pushes for diversity over the last few years publishing has stayed massively, hugely white. 

So when you see authors pushing their identity to the forefront know that it is because we are searching for readers like us, the ones who grew up rarely to never getting to see characters like us in our stories, or seeing white authors use us as the butt end of jokes, as racist caricatures, token side kicks, or cannon fodder.  By pushing our books by their target demographics I’m hoping to find the readers for whom our books are a love letter.
