actually based on my math this is currently pretty representative! 2.7% of respondents live in the most populous cities, which would be 216 million people (of 8 billion), and the total population of those 9 cities is just over 214 million!

Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. Nobody gives a shit about the animals that “don’t affect” us and it seriously breaks my heart

This is how I learn there's a moth whose tiny caterpillars live exclusively off the old shells of dead tortoises.

But is quaintness all that can be said on behalf of this moth? Does this insect not have hidden value beyond its overt appeal? Does not its silk and glue add, potentially, to its worth? Could these products not be unique in ways that could ultimately prove applicable?

I was so inspired by this I made it into a piece of art for a final in one of my courses for storytelling in conservation

Didn’t see any posts about it so here it is for the other Photosensitive folks,

Nimona has a lot of flashing lights, no intense strobing (ie Incredibles) but includes:

Alarm sequences (red lights, ‘police’ lights), explosions and gunfire

Sparks/flashing/flickering lights, firelight

Thunderstorms and lightning effects,

Flashes from color to black (hard to describe)

All within the first few minutes of the movie, frequently throughout.

It wasn’t too terrible when I watched with other lights on during the day but I tried watching it with them off and it was pretty bad. Sharing this so other people can find it would be much appreciated!

i love to think about the ways eiffel is willing/able to take up physical space for hera when she can’t. i think… with eiffel and hera and minkowski staying together post-canon, one thing that might start to really bother hera is that, like. she doesn’t have any stuff. she doesn’t even have herself to be there in the house, really, not physically. and unlike with the hephaestus, a house that is actually meant to be a home, a place that is designed for human life, is always full of reminders of the people who live there. so i want to think that she expresses this to eiffel and he starts picking up stuff he thinks she’ll like just to put it on the shelves and around the house, so it’s her house too. and she thinks it’s kind of silly at first because it’s not like she can really interact with most of it, but. then she sees all of her stuff mixed together with eiffel’s on the shelves and it’s like this constant reminder that she exists in the world, that she has an impact on it and a place in it. and that does make her feel a little better.
