Sometimes I feel like I try to analyze magic too much, to the point to which it almost feels like I’m destroying it. But true magic is indestructible and will always elude human understanding, its power so immense and so beyond me that only by surrendering to its irrational subjectiveness I can find true enjoyment… and as I keep trying to free myself from all the destructive thought patterns that society has ingrained in me, my mind starts to flow unburdened until nothing matters anymore and I laugh at the absurdity of it all, just like when I was a kid watching cartoons with my face so close to the TV that I could almost kiss the screen.

can you give more info about Darwin almost dying while studying barnacles?

People barely knew anything about barnacles in Darwin’s day, so when he discovered one that had never been documented he became interested in just what they were and how they related to one another. Discovering that they were in fact incredibly specialized arthropods - something that nobody had even taken the time to notice - he became fascinated by what they meant for evolution theory and thought he’d take a brief detour to study them even further. One thing lead to another and this turned into almost a whole decade of writing on barnacles alone. His mental and physical health infamously declined as he overexerted himself producing four gigantic volumes on nothing but the systematics of barnacle reproduction and adaptation, which to this day is one of the most detailed works on any group of animals ever.As for the species he discovered that started it all his final words on the subject were “I hate a barnacle as no man ever has before.”

#1yrago John Cage's ten rules for students and teachers

John Cage liked to share a list of rules for creativity developed by artist Sister Corita Kent. That list was then typed up and popularized by Cage. They are:

Rule 1: Find a place you trust, and then, try trusting it for awhile.

Rule 2: (General Duties of a Student) Pull everything out of your teacher. Pull everything out of your fellow students.

Rule 3: (General Duties of a Teacher) Pull everything out of your students.

Rule 4: Consider everything an experiment.

Rule 5: Be Self Disciplined. This means finding someone wise or smart and choosing to follow them. To be disciplined is to follow in a good way. To be self disciplined is to follow in a better way.

Rule 6: Follow the leader. Nothing is a mistake. There is no win and no fail. There is only make.

Rule 7: The only rule is work. If you work it will lead to something. It is the people who do all the work all the time who eventually catch onto things. You can fool the fans–but not the players.

Rule 8: Do not try to create and analyze at the same time. They are different processes.

Rule 9: Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. It is lighter than you think.

Rule 10: We are breaking all the rules, even our own rules and how do we do that? By leaving plenty of room for “x” quantities.

Helpful Hints:

Always Be Around. Come or go to everything. Always go to classes. Read everything you can get your hands on. Look at movies carefully and often. SAVE EVERYTHING. It might come in handy later.
