just to be clear, why didn't you like 13 reasons why? was it the show, the book, or the characters?
I just didn’t like Hannah or the plot line. Like, at all. Plus, now that it’s actually a show, everything is 10x worse. I hate seeing people debating whether certain characters “deserved” to be on the tapes because NO ONE “deserved” to be on tapes. And when I say no one, I mean NO ONE. Even the criminals, because Hannah should’ve done the right thing and actually turned them into the police.
Blaming people for your problems is one thing, but actually sending them the reasons why you blame them after you’re already dead? It’s so fucked. How does no one realize how fucked that is? Even when I was 14-years-old and reading this book, I still realized that Hannah was no one to admire.
I hate the idea of people feeling justified in their selfishness, lack of accountability, and self-righteousness because of this show. Especially since there are already so many people walking around, thinking that mental illness gives them a pass for everything. Like, yes, it’s extremely important to acknowledge when people hurt you. But after that, you need to heal and also acknowledge how you’ve hurt other people. And that’s not what Hannah did at all.
