People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.
Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.
Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.

Since I have seen more people speak up a bit about witnessing mismanagement in the Malevolent/Invictus server I’ve decided it might be helpful to share the reason that I left the server, since at the time I was worried about drawing attention to myself and stayed quiet about this. I’m still a little bit nervous but I feel like letting people know about what happened is more important.
Back at the end of March an individual joined the Invictus Discord Server with a Nazi dog whistle in his name and several alt right slogans in his bio. When I found out about this I filed a support ticket—a process the server uses to bring attention to potential issues creating a channel for whoever files them to speak one on one with the moderators—saying the following:
I got a response from Harlan Guthrie directly with screenshots of him reaching out to the individual, who was apparently a ten to twelve year old kid—a fact which should have made it even less controversial to remove or report him as it is against the Discord TOS to have an account under the age of 13. Harlan asked him “Your profile has some pretty hateful anti-liberal stuff? Is that for real or you just being edgy lol” and the kid replied, “it’s both”. The rest of my brief conversation with Harlan I have saved in screenshot form so I’ll just share it directly rather than attempt to paraphrase.
At this point, it was clear that my concerns about my safety and the safety of other marginalized folks in the server were being met with dismissiveness and condescension, rather than any sort of action. I followed through on what I said I would do and left the server.
I do not want to discourage any of you from listening to the show if you are enjoying it. I continued to for a while after I left, though I have stopped keeping up with the show now for unrelated reasons. I just want to make it clear for other people who might be looking for a community space that the safety and comfort of marginalized community members is not something that Harlan is prioritizing in the Invictus Discord Server.
for the record: the 10 to 12 thing is because harlan disclosed this person's age to two separate people, claiming in one instance that they were 10 and in another that they were 12

something about this is making me feel like people don't understand what dog whistle is. so, in case some don't know what dog whistle means, here is a wiki explanation for it:
I don't know the kid or have been part of this situation but it is clear to me that if you want to deradicalize or deprogram someone, you should firstly tell them that the thing they say is harmful because of the reasons they cannot see it being harmful.
the kid (I doubt it but) may genuinely love that truck and might not be aware of the situation. it is your job as the adult who is trying to help this kid to explain to them that it is something that has been used to harm people instead of saying "oh, okay, i guess we cannot do anything about a kid that likes trucks". because that's how dog whistles become dog whistles; by normalizing it's negative intentions.
