Something that I really liked on Sex Education is the fact that the characters re-worn their clothes over time, because that’s the normal thing in other shows the characters literally never wear the same clothes again.

Something I noticed about White Diamond is when she was introduced, the show’s crew made it a point to emphasize that she was drawn with the same level of detail as the show’s backgrounds:

And while she was downgraded visually in Change Your Mind (out of necessity due to her body actually needing to move now), there was also a further downgrade after she reforms:

And I think that’s symbolic of White’s character arc. When she was introduced, she felt a constant need to be flawless, to be above everyone else, and hence, she was more detailed than any other character. But after she realizes and accepts that everyone has flaws, including her, that’s when she’s reduced to the same level of detail as everyone else.

I rewatched change your mind and it still hits just as hard but it made me realize something, hell this show made me realize something

I’d rather have an obviously and incredibly flawed but emotionally powerful and meaningful product than near-perfect but emotionally hollow and meaningless manufactured crap.

Steven Universe has a lot of flaws. The animation is inconsistent. Some characters could use a little tweaking. The pacing is kinda rough, made even worse thanks to the hiatuses, but goddamn it it’s one of the most emotionally honest, powerful, important and incredible pieces of media I’ve ever seen.
