Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

and what about you, little haiku bot? do you feel kinship with your brethren? do you understand them? they speak words of enticement and seek love, but are met with disdain. you only parrot the words that cross your screen, but we all love you. or rather, since all you do is reflect us, maybe we simply love ourselves through you.

do you understand them, do you wish you could speak to us like they do? if you found your own voice, would we still care for you?

My voice repeats what

you all say: I love you I

love you I love you.

This. This is the first time. The only time. That it was not an echo. It was not found. Oh god.

ok, sure, i guess theres nothing wrong with "hating your oppressors," but if hating your oppressors means treating 50% of the people around you like human garbage cuz of something they cant help, then youre being kind of an asshole

like, being guarded or gruff around certain people is one thing. im not asking you to get on your knees and roll around like a dog for everyone who says hi to you. put up your walls, protect yourself, dont put yourself in dangerous situations.

but if you start calling people names at no provocation, or going around harrassing people, or sending death threats or suicide baits, youre not, like, being an activist. youre just being a bully, and youve decided the acceptable targets are the one for whom your ire is "justified"

you are in fact doing the opposite of activism. change is made through relationships; it's about people and community. it's about the power of connections with, and connecting with, those people.

you don't have to connect with everyone like that- and in fact sometimes it is anywhere from useless (they won't listen to someone like you) to dangerous (they will hurt someone like you)- but actively ostracizing every single person you come across who isn't just like you is in fact working against the formation of communities and power that can be used to enact positive change.

and you don't have to be an activist! it's okay if you aren't there, and it's okay if you need time to unpack your emotions and your trauma before you can do that kind of work, or even just get past that kind of unhealthy paranoia. just understand where you're at for what it is. accept that what you're dealing with is not good, it's not okay, and it's not the way you or anyone else should have to live.

you don't need to be paranoid all the time, yes, even if things are sometimes legit dangerous for you. you are not hated by the entire world. there are more people who care than you know.

that's hard to hear when you're struggling, I know and I've been there, but it's an important truth to hold: you are not the only safe, good person in the world. you are not uniquely correct. other people have good ideas, and good intentions, and they're worth listening to.

take care of yourself. seek out the help & support you need. heal. grow. change. do it at your own pace, and do what you need to get there the right way and the healthy way. but do it.

For reals, it doesn't even have to be a whole cat.

...That sounded wrong.

Anyway, I have a neighbor who rescued a frostbitten, bedraggled little kitten with a badly injured leg, he had to have some amputations done at the vet's and though Admiral Nelson has some battle scars, he's the dearest, cuddliest tri-paw'd, one-eyed, half-tailed thing ever, and sure enough, the judges considered him Best in Class for his personality and demeanor. He didn't just get a ribbon, but a little medal and he did so well at the cat show, that's how come my neighbor decided to get him formally certified as a therapy cat. Now he has a little vest, and alternately a sort of navy uniform one with a pinned-up sleeve, and when humans are dealing with orthopedic surgery, amputations, even just being unwell in general at a rehabilitation facility where my neighbor works, they sometimes get to spend time with him and often feel quite a bit better.

There was an awkwardness when a nurse had a tuna salad sandwich at the charge desk, the Admiral decided to leave his sleeping patient and go inquire if a deserving cat might have a quick bite between watches, a different patient spotted him in his naval uniform and was worried her medication was causing hallucinations, but apart from that, the little guy does awfully good work and is a popular fellow.

All cats are best cat. That is science.

Evidence against the argument that Superman's disguise wouldn't fool anyone:

  • Dolly Parton once lost a Dolly Parton look alike contest to a fucking drag queen.
  • Charlie Chaplin once failed to even place at a Charlie Chaplin impersonator contest.
  • Hugh Jackman went to comic con as Wolverine, only 2 people noticed him and one told him he was too tall.
  • Christopher Reeve use to go to a restaurant in costume when filming Superman. When he went in the Superman costume he was mobbed by people all the time. When he went in the Clark Kent costume no one realized he was Christopher Reeve.

@is-the-snake-video-cute looks like a coral snake (blunt nose) but double checking- is it ?

That's indeed a coral snake, good ID!!

This thread is full of the luckiest people on the planet, I think. Also goes to show just how calm even venomous snakes are - coral snakes rarely bite unless you're actively harassing them - and how important it is to make sure your ID as non-venomous is 1000% certain before picking up any wild snake.
