Good morning 🍃 After several discussions and considerations, I came to the decision with my doctor to have the tumor on my brain removed by surgery. Am I scared? Yes! Is there a high probability of consequential damage? Yes! But What has to be, that has to be. ~ ⚘
In the meantime I look at pictures of Hades to distract myself. ~ ♡
This is my first time hearing this, and I wish the absolute best for you Mina 🙏 I'm with you every step of the way and I hope it goes well ❤️
with all the strikes going on (awesome) now is a good time to remind yourself to always go straight to the union strike info page to verify any requests for a boycott or for direction on what is and isn’t crossing the picket line. also, a reminder that you literally can’t cross a picket line if you don’t work for that industry.
why is it important? because literally all union- and strike-busting tactics involve making you feel like the strike is infringing on every part of your life and inconveniencing you as a consumer. so there is always a lot of misinformation (purposeful from companies, or from internet personalities making things up based on misguided principles because they want Clout) circulating in the form of scolding over doing everyday things that supposedly cross a picket line or go against a boycott, because people are less likely to support things that make them feel scolded.
to be completely honest the union probably doesn’t care at all about you unless you’re literally a scab and if you aren’t sure whether you’re a scab, and especially if you haven’t recently accepted work from the industry being struck, you’re probably not a scab.
This was the first I've heard of this but apparently SAG-AFTRA would like cosplayers not to dress up as characters from Live Action media
Sources:
[ID] Klaudia Amenábar @kaludiasays on twitter says “in all seriousness SAD asking for no cosplay of characters from struck productions the week of SDCC is a really smart move. if people actually follow it in solidarity it will be a REAL disruption these companies don't want bc they rely on fans doing 90% of marketing nowadays.
Even before the strike half the big companies werent doing big panels there anyway, relying on some actor promotion, their owned conventions and events, and [caps] FANS. [/caps] fans creating disruption as well to help the workers would be very visible as well.
and if it's for months and several conventions, and creators pivot their content away for long periods of time, it'll really make their pockets hurt bc they [caps] BARELY [/caps] pay for owned marketing anymore and again, rely on fans. [caps] DRAIN THEM DRY. [/caps]
for those asking about the source on cosplay, but also on past productions twitter.com/estarguarstia (...) [end ID]
[ID] quoted tweet from Estar Guars Tia @estarguarstia reads Ok guys I got a response.
Image: screenshot of an email from SAG-AFTRA reads Re: Further clarification for content creators.
We are asking folks not to do cosplay if it would promote struck productions. Yes, you can promote comics, books, and games, as this is not struck work. That being said, performers are being asked to refrain from promoting struck work, including past productions that would have been struck if produced today. [End ID]

Am I allowed to promote struck work on social media as a fan and not in a paid capacity?
Influencers should refrain from posting on social media about any struck work regardless of whether they are posting organically or in a paid capacity.
Can I attend conventions as a fan as long as I am not being paid to promote anything?
You cannot participate in conventions such as Comic-Con on behalf of, or to promote, companies we are striking against- this includes appearances, panels, fan meet and greets, etc. involving struck work. You may participate in a convention in ways that are wholly independent of characters from struck work or sponsorship by struck companies. If you have any questions relating to this distinction, please contact SAGAFTRAstrike@sagaftra.org. [end ID]
I think what is funny is that these studio bigwigs think we’re loyal to studios when we aren’t?
Yes, Disney is a brand but I don’t care about Bob Iger. I care about Peter Sohn, the director of Elemental. I care about Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the directors of Wish. I care about the animators, the background designers, the editors, the people who MAKE the movies. They’re the ones creating new stories and characters for us to fall in love with.
When people talk about films, they don’t talk about the producers, they talk about the directors, writers and actors. Creatives are the people who make the movies memorable. They deserve to be paid. It’s ridiculous that the people who make these shows and movies worth something are getting screwed out of money.
women should lift weights because it prevents osteoporosis in old age and makes you a more capable person in everyday life please shut up about butts and waists and hourglasses i'm going to fucking kill

genuine question from someone who would rather chew their arm off than go to a public gym, and also doesnt have a lot of money: how do you safely get into strength training? are there youtube channels, apps (android), etc anyone recommends that makes it approachable and don't lean into diet culture / body shaming?
also the biggest thing that keeps me from working out is that I already have joint and spinal issues and moving the wrong way can fuck up a knee or a shoulder or my spine for days. I really don't want to injure myself, and have unwittingly done so before. resources that are extremely clear on exactly how to move and offer gentler / alternative ways to move for people with limited range are vital.
Okay, so this may not technically be strength training, but muscles are dumber than bricks and cannot tell the difference between your own bodyweight and actual weights.
So, may I recommend:
He runs a YouTube channel where he goes over how to work your way up to more complex exercises (for instance, his pull-ups videos start with using a door jamb and moving your weight back and forth) so it's good for easing yourself into things.
You also don't have to fork out for expensive weights and such if you don't want to/can't. Substitute with stuff you either already have at home or can get from the supermarket and build up the weight you can exercise with. 500 gram cans of butter beans then 750 gram bottles of pasta sauce. 1 litre drink bottle then your 1.5 litre milk bottle. 3 litre bulk-buy bottle of laundry detergent. Etc. One of my dogs weighs 13 kilos and I pick her up on the regular (to her delight). One weighs 16 kg and I pick him up too (to his consternation and mild disapproval). You don't have to fit out some fancy home gym before you can start strength training.
You know what, happy Disability Pride Month to everybody who is always the youngest patient in the waiting room at your specialists' offices.
The news that SAG-AFTRA is joining the WGA is exciting for me. I hope that this proves to be a domino effect that leads to other sections of the entertainment industry—especially the VFX industry—unionizing. The threat of crucial jobs in the entertainment industry being automated is omnipresent.
I’m not sure if this is permitted in other countries, but here in the US, advertisers are allowed to use any kind of malignant psychology they want in their ads so long as those ads fit within the allotted time-frame.
Back in high school, my class watched a video on how a certain Coca-Cola advertisement was made. You may have seen it, but for those who haven’t: The ad featured a cinematic montage of a crowded beach with smiling thin white people enjoying their leisure time and drinking Coca-Cola out of a common plastic bottle.
The big takeaway from this video was that the ad wasn’t actually advertising Coca-Cola. It was advertising a lifestyle. By associating Coca-Cola with a desirable lifestyle (as well as qualities associated with desirability) it plants the association of “Coca-Cola” with “happiness” in people’s subconscious minds.
This becomes clear when you consider who the ad was meant for. The target audience wasn’t the smiling thin white people that the ad featured, but instead it was people who wanted to be smiling thin white people. This was an ad for the Gen X mom of three kids who worked full-time, who relied on shelf-stable foods to keep everyone fed, and whose nervous system was chronically fried from the stress of never having adequate time for herself.
If she was at the grocery store, and saw the very same bottle of Coca-Cola featured in that ad, she’d be far more likely to pick it up than she was before watching it. If she didn’t anticipate finding relief for her stress, then she could at least drink up the idea of it.
Of course, the thing about ads is that they stop working. Eventually, people’s minds grow wise to the fact buying a certain product doesn’t actually grant them the lifestyle associated with them.
But there’s a lot of other tricks ads employ beyond this.
The reason why Geico is the first company you consider when thinking about buying car insurance is because of the calm, consistent nature of their ads and the fact they’re ubiquitous enough to be familiar. Their mascot forms a kind of parasocial rapport with the audience, so Geico already feels familiar to you by the time you’re looking to buy insurance.
Cereal brands use cartoon-character-like mascots to make their product memorable to kids who can’t read. The reason why so many cereal mascots exhibit such frenetic, possessive behavior is to teach kids to emulate that behavior to compel parents into buying them the cereal, especially if they saw that behavior rewarded in the ad (with the cereal).
You only really see ads for apps on an app-based devices for a reason.
Then there are the ads that don’t look like ads, but look like people on TikTok sharing a new secret product with their audience using the only communication format we regularly trust: word-of-mouth.
And let’s not forget the sheer magnitude of ads that exist. I can’t go outside without seeing them. I can’t watch videos online without exposing myself to ads that wants to skewer my emotions within 10 seconds.
There’s no reprieve from it unless I wall myself off from our culture entirely.
Ads are parasites to both culture and to cognition, and they must be regulated.
"insta/reddit/twitter falls but TUMBLR reigns supreme~" tumblr requires a custom ticket to report the n word with information that's unintuitive on mobile, demands written justification from the victimized party on why it's against TOS and never gets answered. Y'all KILL me with this shit lol
Restating this for no reason in particular, and certainly not because people are legitimately trying to blog-to-blog proselytize on some heaven-sent call to give money to a website that requires custom racism tickets and that hasn't had a working search function in what's pushing 20 years
gonna add a take, android is better then ios because ios was created by Apple to maintain a complete monopoly over every single part of the phone so that it is absolutely impossible to get it fixed anywhere but at one of their official stores or licensed repair stores where they can slap you with ridiculously high repair bills for simple fixes. Android isn't a type of phone, it's an operating system. it's the same shit with apple always using a weird ass charging cable when everyone else has been using USB for decades. uniqueness not for improving the quality of the product, but for increasing its price artificially through after purchase repairs upgrades and replacements.
by the way, it’s real bold of hollywood to be like “the writers and actors have unrealistic expectations, but WE know what we’re doing” when they got tricked into releasing morbius in theaters a second time.
We’re all goin here right
Imagine if play was something encouraged in adults, places to run and jump and climb because it's fun
I never know what the machines do at the gym, but i will clamber to the top of the tower to slide into a ball pit
I am 100% certain I would be in better physical condition if adults were allowed to play in ways that focus on fun and aren't competitive.
Wild how the queer community has been fighting tooth and nail for generations to have some semblance of inclusion and just the desire to not be beaten, arrested, or killed for existing.
Then there is less than 10 years of policies put in place to help us start being treated more humanely and the Conservative party is like “Actually we rather you die again” openly and proudly.
Wild how allowing ppl to live has made them so angry and more open about their fascism.
Meanwhile half of the younger queers online are too preoccupied with terminology and gatekeeping fandom engagement while our country actively works to eradicate the community honing social media to propagate propaganda.
It is going to sound mean and im not gonna sugarcoat it:
Telling other lgbtqia members that using the term “queer” is problematic and bad is more aligned with conservative’s views of hiding and destroying queerness. When you get that gatekeeping towards your own community you are making it easier to break us apart.
