Thanks for the question and compliment! I admit a lot of this is intuitive to me now, so I may not be the best at explaining my thought process; but I'll do my best!
For my own work, I like compositions that aren't too stiff/static, and have a bit of dynamism. To do this, I think I tend to rely on triangles- or at least diagonals. This can be accomplished a lot of different ways like with silhouettes (or value contrast) or by thinking of how most people tend to focus on faces, eye gaze, and hands.
I didn't necessarily actively think of these specific triangles while I was drawing, but I hope you can kind of see how I would use various shapes and character interactions to move the eye around.
In a similar vein, I also like to have a nice balance of color and value throughout the piece unless I am using it as a pop of color to direct the viewer's attention at something specific.
