just a quick reminder since some of y'all need it

it's NEVER okay to comment on what someone else is eating, when they decide to eat, or what quantity of food they chose. you might never eat cake, but that doesn't mean no one should be allowed to have cake either. you might only allow yourself a meal every day, but dont shit on someone else for having several small ones. you only have 350 calories a day? thats not enough calories to even support basic brain function, so maybe that's why you thought it was alright to bash someone else for eating 1000. oh, you never eat past 6:30? well, that's your choice, just like it's someone else's to never eat past 8:30. our rules may vary, but our suffering is still the same. basic rule of thumb here is dont be a dick.

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless

FOOD

  • Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
  • grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
  • different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
  • some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

  • Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
  • sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
  • Some churches offer short term residence
  • Find your nearest homeless shelter
  • Look for places that are open to the public
  • A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

  • A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
  • Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
  • Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
  • Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
  • Local beaches, go for a quick swim
  • Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
  • Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
  • Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

  • first aid kit
  •  sunscreen
  •  a travel alarm clock or watch
  •  mylar emergency blanket
  •  a backpack is a must
  •  downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
  •  sleeping bag
  •  travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror
  •  swiss army knife
  •  can opener

i am so glad that i renblogged this however so long ago. i saw this post and shared it with others in mind, but now i am the one who really needs this. id like to think of this as good karma i guess

also a good list if anyone ever needs to run away from home for whatever reason.

the bits the movies don’t show you about eds

  1. after less than week of on and off fasting you won’t be able to poop normally. you’ll be constipated and then if you eat too much you’ll get diarrhoea with stomach acid in it.
  2. after less than two months your hair will start falling out. it’ll be very thin. even if it’s healthy. if it’s damaged and already snaps off it will make a huge difference.
  3. you’ll be colder as you progressively lose weight. once there’s no body fat to keep you warm you’ll develop lanugo- a layer of fuzzy hair over your body to try and keep you warm. it’s what babies have in the womb.
  4. purging is addictive. it’s so so addictive. i did it on and off for about four years and went through phases of doing it after every meal , in public bathrooms , and then not doing it for months on end. but every time i had a big meal that feeling would creep back in. and now that i’m back into the ana spiral i get the urge to purge after everything i eat. after three bits of chocolate i chewed and spat, in case i swallowed any. it’s not even just a mental thing , my body reacts to food by making me feel ill because it’s so used to it. for me , it’s more addictive than self harm ever was.
  5. you might be cute once you reach your goal weight. you might believe that once you’ve lost the weight you can stop. you can’t. your obsession keeps going. you want to be a skeleton. because you cannot see what you really look like. because you have a mental illness. you may still be too insecure to wear a bikini or have sex- because your brain can’t see your body properly.
  6. your body is using it’s energy for things it didn’t need to work on so hard before, like keeping you warm and breathing. you’ll get sick easier. right now my septum piercing smells like fish when it’s been healed for months and never smelt bad, because my body can’t fight off bacteria. gross right?
  7. maybe your family and friends will be proud when you lose a healthy amount of weight but they will catch on eventually , i promise. when you are 20kg underweight , never eating , throwing up in a bag under your bed , and passing out on the bus, they’ll notice.
  8. you will literally be scared of foods. i avoid foods like bread and dairy bc they make me physically panic.
  9. if you use laxatives , eventually you won’t be able to shit without them
  10. if you suppress your appetite with cigarettes, you’ll be addicted to nicotine for a very long time.

there are healthy ways to lose weight, exercising or dieting under a doctors supervision for example, but an eating disorder is not a diet. it’s an illness. it feels near impossible to recover from one. so please , anyone who’s looking through the tags , thinking about starting , don’t. me and probably every other rexie on here would tell you that you don’t want to start. take care of yourself <3

and for any rexie reading this, if you’re spiralling please stay safe!! i know you can’t stop and i know it’s so hard but eat something every day!! drink water!! get out of bed and shower if you can. treat yourself. if you’re recovering, i’m so damn proud!! relapsing is a part of recovery. you can get there.

Don’t tell yourself that “You’ve already ruined today anyway, so what that point?”

You’ve only ‘ruined’ this hour, this minute. You can still succeed in the next hour. 

So don’t give up and start tomorrow for the millionth time, start again the next minute. Start again the next hour, and keep fucking going.
