See that picture above? That’s a close up of my great grandmother’s immigration papers when she first came to the US back in the early 20th century. But my great grandma’s information isn’t the important part here. The important part is that line in the middle there about how they arrived in the country.

And how ‘stowaway’ is a legitimate, valid option to select.

So yeah. They absolutely just showed up, and that part of immigration history needs to be talked about a lot more.

What we have to do is fucking GROW UP. 

There’s not one single thing in the world (outside of the choice of what’s for dinner) that gives “us” 100% of what we want 100% of the time. This is especially true for politics. 

Do you know what Biden is? 

An acceptable (note: not perfect. not necessarily desirable.) compromise candidate who can pull the largest number of people behind him. 

Do you know what Biden is? A candidate who can carry the Midwest and Rust Belt states, the flyover states that went to Trump and guaranteed his victory. 

He’s a candidate with experience. He’s a candidate who has been in the trenches for decades, has seen social challenges and changes, who has been wrong in the past (but right for the time he was in, wrong when viewed with today’s lens) and has apologized for the “mistakes” he has made. 

He’s lost his son and grieved deeply. 

Would I like to see other candidates? sure. I particularly like Mayor Pete Buttigieg. But when the time comes to enter the voting booth? Vote for the party (that’d be Democrat) if you can’t vote for the candidates, because it’s better to have Biden than Trump. 

If it’s Joe Biden, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

If it’s Pete Buttigieg, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

If it’s Beto Freaking O’Rourke, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

I’m gonna level with you, I have qualms about EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN THE RACE. I’m leaning toward Elizabeth Warren. But no matter who ends up getting the nomination, they are going to be better than Trump. Trump is abusing the hell out of executive privilege. He’s gotten to appoint a fuckton of judges. He’s taking unilateral action to restrict civil rights, particularly the rights of trans people. There are legitimate concerns that Trump will try to resist stepping aside if he loses the 2020 election! At this point, the name of the game is containing the fucking damage.

there was a dark prince who hid behind a mask and lived in the thrall of an evil sorcerer. One day, a beautiful girl from distant desert lands found him in a forest. The prince was intrigued by the girl and carried her back to his fortress in an enchanted sleep.

The girl awoke afraid, but she was brave and looked past the enchantment to see the prince’s secrets. The prince was troubled by the girl’s insight. He ran to the sorcerer to seek answers, but was left only with more questions.

While the prince sought advice from his master, the girl escaped and ran to a forest filled with snow. The prince chased her, but she was strong and the prince was wounded even before he gave chase… The girl summoned his grandfather’s sword and escaped on his father’s horse.

The desert girl sought out the prince’s kinsman, a powerful sorcerer, to fight the prince’s master, but he turned her away and she was left to explore the power growing within her alone. The wounded prince thought only of the desert girl until one day, as if by magic, she was there.

At first, the desert girl was angry. She lashed out at the dark prince. But, as the days passed and her power grew, she began to see the prince differently… and her heart was drawn to him.

The desert girl became determined to free the prince from the sorcerer. She took up his grandfather’s sword and rode his father’s horse to the palace to confront the prince and his master.

The prince brought the desert girl before the sorcerer. The girl was brave; she fought the sorcerer for the prince’s soul. But she was not strong enough to defeat him alone. The sorcerer overpowered the desert girl and ordered the prince to kill her. But the girl’s courage had weakened the sorcerer’s hold on the prince. Instead of killing her, the prince cut the sorcerer in half with his grandfather’s sword. Then the prince and the desert girl joined together and fought the sorceror’s guards as one.

Little by little the guards fell, until only the desert girl and the prince were left alive. The desert girl begged the prince to come with her and save their kingdom, but the poison of the sorcerer’s magic still remained in his heart, even if the sorcerer did not.

The prince begged the desert girl to abandon the old kingdom and rule an empire by his side, but she refused and summoned his grandfather’s sword again.The prince’s heart filled with anguish and he too attempted to summon the sword. The strain on the blade was too great and it broke in half with a great surge of magic.

When the prince awoke, the desert girl and his grandfather’s sword were gone. Filled with the shame and pain of her rejection, the prince took his armies and chased the desert girl and her allies into an old castle on a barren plain. All seemed lost until the prince’s kinsman appeared and fought the prince, giving the desert girl enough time to use her magic and escape. She carried the pieces of his grandfather’s sword and the last hope for the kingdom away on his father’s horse… and the prince was alone once more.

Yet the hope the desert girl kept with her was strong. One day it would be stong enough to drive the sorcerer’s poison from the prince’s heart… and bring him home at last.
