Ben Wendel - December
American-canadian jazz saxophonist Ben Wendel released twelve videos last year, one for every month, always featuring a guest. Everyone of them is a contemporary jazz great - Taylor Eigsti, Luciana Souza, Joshua Redman, just to name a few.
He was inspired by a suite of twelve piano pieces by Tchaikowsky, also titled “Seasons”, released one by one in a music magazine in 1876.
I like this one the most because it’s the least straight-forward, very poetic and interactive.
Like many other jazz musicians, Wendel composes a lot for film, and has played with many other artists - like Snoop Dogg, for example… His group “Kneebody” was nominated for a grammy in 2009 for an album with arrangements of songs by composer Charles Ives.
