Glass Onion + Masks (insp)
A+ example of how the media manipulates people for clicks and anger engagement.
Your reminder that the new york post is a right wing tabloid, on par with the sun or the daily mail
After watching him play Benoit Blanc I think we all know that folks need to give Daniel Craig more roles he can have fun with, and by that I mean I need him to be the only human in a Muppets movie
im obsessed with stories that have a fixed ending before they even start. stories with narrators who are crying as they tell it because there is only one way this can end.
there is only one way this can go.
stories where the characters might know how it all ends and beg the audience to change it, knowing they can't. stories where the characters are unaware, but given the people they are and the situations they're in- well, what else are they supposed to do?
stories that are loops. that start with everyone dying and getting back up again to do it one more time.
because this time, maybe, it will be different.
the narrator cries.
the fact that people can't comprehend why the chimp subplot was important to NOPE is probably the most damning evidence of a decline in media literacy I've witnessed
the chris pine thing is so funny
like here's chris pine living his absolute best life reading books and loving film and definitely not writing erotica and he's dropped into a movie that seems like it's going to be fine like you've got florence pugh and former boy band superstar harry styles and nick kroll (??) and shia labeouf (?????) but whatever it's fine olivia wilde is directing except whoops she falls in love with harry styles and pisses off her boyfriend (ex boyfriend) who's been having his post-snl renaissance with an apple whatever tv show and so then olivia gets served custody papers while she's on stage at a film convention and then it turns out florence pugh is actually friends with jason sudeikis and was going to cameo on ted lasso because florence's ex (zac braff???) was directing some of it and here's chris pine and living his best life but he's in a movie where the director is dating the male lead and the female lead isn't talking to the director because of the everything and then shia laboeouf leaves the film and it's probably because he's a pos and the director implies it's because he's a pos but then shia posts a vague video showing olivia wilde calling florence pugh miss flo and it's from month's ago over nothing but it's chaos and it's the venice film fest and you're chris pine and you're trapped in venice with these people and harry styles kisses nick kroll on the lips and harry styles is saying the movie is a movie that feels like a film like a real film and florence pugh is fucking gone and it's just you and then harry styles spits on you (????) and it's caught on film and you're chris pine and all you wanted was to be in a movie and write some erotica on the side
this movie had me laughing my ass off and crying at the same fucking time
This show was the funniest fucking thing
He never elaborated on this and it kills me
If I remember correctly it eventually got out.
Apparently this was a rehearsal for the scene, so the extinguisher was a prop one (hence the moment Miranda sassy looks at the camera/crew for how he was acting her in panic), so they went on to it.
But someone had switched the extinguisher to the actual fire thrower that would be used on the scene (I dont remember if was proposital or not or simply a mistake because they were meant to be identical).
So this is their actual reaction, cause when he pressed the valve, he really wasnt expecting to fire come out, neither was Miranda, so their reaction is 100% genuine and they did freak out as on tape.
The thing went out so well they were unable to reenact their reactions or surprise as the first time on rehearsal, so the rehearsal scene was kept and put it into the actual episode.
Are you telling me Miranda was eating that carrot with whip cream for fun and not because the scene called for it.
James Cameron literally waiting almost an entire decade just to start shooting the first Avatar movie because the mocap tech that existed in the 90s wasn’t up to his standards yet
James Cameron planning out the sequel in the early 2010s when he realized that there wasn’t a way to shoot mocap underwater yet
having seen jordan peele's three movies at this point im pretty sure the way on-screen gore and violence is used pretty sparingly is part of his style. and i like his style a lot, but the way so much of the gore is kept off-screen works SO well in Nope (2022) specifically
like for one thihg, having some of the most gruesome/terrifying parts of the movie happen just outside of the camera or blocked by something in the shot definitely elevates the horror. gordy attacking jupe's co-stars is all blocked by the set, we only see the shadows of everyone getting sucked into jean jacket, and even tho we see them inside jean jacket a little bit, it's more to show us how they were being kept alive. we don't actually see them die/get digested. and because none of these things happen on-screen, our brains connect the dots and come up with the most horrifying shit we can imagine
but even outside of just how Not Seeing The Scary Thing Makes The Scary Thing Scarier, it fits fucking thematically with the whole movie. we don't need to see the gory gruesome details of someone's death to know what happened to these characters, showing these things on-screen wouldn't add to our understanding of the plot. it would just be a spectacle of gore and pain and the whole point of Nope is condemning the act of pointing the camera at suffering to exploit people's pain
#hear that? that’s the sound of my heart breaking 💔
