"p-please! Don't hurt me! Don't eat me!"
They plead to the giant who held the human in their palm, the giant made a few failed attempts to interrupt the human begging and pleading desperately for their life.
"Please... stop... I'm not going to hurt you, I'm... I'm not that scary, why are you so afraid of me? I only meant to help..."
there was a lump in the giant's throat as he slowly began to tear up. They were so tired of hearing those pleas, that desperate begging and crying as if their life was about to end in his hands. He covered his eyes with his other hand in an attempt to stop the tears.
"Why does everyone keep saying that? Why does everyone keep running away? What's wrong with me that everyone's afraid?"
They place the small human on the table, this was their chance to escape, but they couldn't bring themselves to leave the giant alone... They watched the giant slowly break down, he really must be all alone, everyone including the other giants avoided him like he was some kind of monster.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry, please don't be sad..."
"Don't be, it's not your fault. I'm sorry I grabbed you and scared you. I just didn't want to be lonely anymore... I don't want to scare anyone away, I've tried everything I knew, I got desperate and made it worse..."
They both sat there for a moment in silence, the giant calmed themselves down and looked at the human, who offered them a tissue, they had a sympathetic yet nervous smile in an attempt to mask how uneasy they still felt being around the other.
"Thank you... I'm sorry you saw that, I shouldn't start wailing in front of guests just because I'm lonely, that's such a burden to put on you..."
"Don't apologize, I understand, it can get lonely down here too, especially if you're used to everything seeing you as food..."
They both smile at each other, there was a moment of peace between the two, something that was considered a miracle.
"I saw you taking some treats from the pantry earlier, would you like to stay over for tea? I don't mind sharing my biscuits, you take so little when I have so much, all you need to do is ask, I'd be more than happy to share"
The human's eyes widen in disbelief, they felt their stomach rumble as the giant mentions food, and they weren't the only hungry ones, it almost sounded like a small storm brewing within the giant. It made the little human nervously take a step back, just to be careful, the giant chuckles softly.
"Don't worry I won't eat you, get comfortable. I'll be right back with those biscuits you like so much, I'll try to find something to serve you some tea in too"
me and my brother: *explains how adhd affects us*
our parents: that's not adhd, that's normal
me and my brother:
When I was a kid I was talking to my psychiatrist with my dad and I mentioned some stuff and he went "let me get an ADHD questionnaire" and Dad was like "I mean, that's all normal stuff for me" and he went "okay, let me get two ADHD questionnaires".
We both forgot to fill them out.
the ocean as a metaphor ALWAYS slaps. the ocean as a hungry force that wants to consume you? the ocean as something vast and unknowable, like a god itself? the ocean as freedom and liberation? the ocean as the mysteries of the self? the ocean as love? never fails to get me
“the sea doesn’t care about you!!” ok well just because the ocean is unspeakably powerful and can’t stop the rhythm she’s held for uncountable eons just for one person doesn’t mean she can’t love you. loving and changing are two different things. we wouldn’t have life without the ocean…. and yeah, if you don’t respect her and treat her cavalierly, you’ll perish. but how can anyone say the sea doesn’t mourn when she holds so much life and beautiful secrets in her belly? why are we putting atheism on the ocean that loves us?
you want the ocean to change for YOU? you think that being tamed is the only way for her to prove her love??? go sit on a rock by the seaside and listen to the tide. find some gratitude for one of the only things in existence that always keeps its promise to come back
Dear Reddit and Twitter refugees:
You've probably already been told to change your icon, post and reblog stuff you like, Tumblr has holidays, etc.
But in case you weren't aware before....
When AO3 (Archive of Our Own) goes down for any reason, Tumblr flips the fuck out and panics. AO3 starts trending almost immediately.
Do NOT try to calm your neighbors down! Panicking with them until AO3 goes back up is the correct course of action.
Thank you and have a day.
Every 21st century piece of writing advice: Make us CARE about the character from page 1! Make us empathize with them! Make them interesting and different but still relatable and likable!
Every piece of classic literature: Hi. It's me. The bland everyman whose only purpose is to tell you this story. I have no actual personality. Here's the story of the time I encountered the worst people I ever met in my life. But first, ten pages of description about the place in which I met them.
Modern writing advice: Yes your protagonist should have flaws but ultimately we should root for them and like them from the beginning :)
Charles Dickens: Here is the worst ugliest rudest meanest nastiest bitch you’ve ever met in your life.
Modern writing advice: Make sure your POV character goes through a significant arc! Make sure they are changed by the narrative! Make sure they learn a lesson!
Narrators of every book of the 19th century: the lesson I learned is these people fucking suck, sayonara you freaks
Modern writing advice: It’s all about the character overcoming obstacles and learning! They learn their lesson so they can fix their mistakes and make good choices in the future! It’s a character arc! It’s called growth! Readers love it!
Everyone from ancient times through the 19th century: would you like to watch a Guy fuck up twenty times in a row
Clarifying for everyone who doesn’t read usernames but the delayed release is just a rumor but an extremely LIKELY rumor right now. Considering how people who are working on Beyond the Spider-Verse say they’re barely in the animation testing stage.
A good movie is NOT worth unsatisfactory and mentally unstable, exhaustive, and dangerous working conditions. If you can support the artists who worked on atsv financially through commission or other means DO THAT!
I will happily wait another year or two so that the animators aren’t worked to the bone. I want my entertainment to be produced as ethically as possible.
Miles “Who’s Morales” vs Gwen “Gwwwwanda” vs Pavtir “You seem like a nice young woman I do not know” FIGHT
Major spoilers for the Miguel/Across the Spiderverse (and some headcanon)
Warning for potential eye strain too
Heartbreaking: Local Fic Author Must Write the Fanfic Before They Can Post It
Sure you're "child free" now. But in 20 years when your riches are vast and you rule with an iron fist you're gonna feel real fucking embarrassed when you're ready to be usurped and the only guy scheming enough to poison your wine Is a weird cousin with vague familial connections instead of your flesh and blood idiot son that wants the throne a few years sooner
Listening to this on repeat and feeling a sense of validation that I’m still obsessed with RDR2 in 2023
Did you enjoy Across the Spider-Verse? Do you like TTRPGs?
You should check out the award-winning TTRPG I wrote as a love letter to Spider-Man, called Anyone Can Wear the Mask.
(not for nothing, but the art in the game by Elijah Forbes is gorgeous)
It's a 3-player RPG where one player plays a local superhero; another, the City the hero has sworn to protect; and the third, the villain threatening the safety of the people. You draw cards, roll dice, draw a map, and tell a story about what it means to be a hero.
It's currently available in print and digital, which includes the PDF and audiobook with narration by Aaron Catano-Saez (Skyjacks: Courier's Call). Peep the game's trailer:
