my spanish teacher in high school was from cuba and he told us to ignore vosotros because nobody uses it and i said “but they still use it in spain, right?” to which he replied “okay, nobody that matters”
Lets embrace xenophobia just cause one word, it’s so hard to learn it…
spaniards colonized the whole western hemisphere unleashing a program of genocide and ethnic cleansing on an unprecedented scale and forced their language on the people in those colonized societies which over centuries has resulted in a rich variety of dialects across the spanish speaking world, pretty much all of which dropped the use of the informal plural you, and the dialect spoken in madrid that still has it was established by the royal spanish academy as “standard” to reinforce their agenda of cultural imperialism, so pardon me but clowning on them for clinging on to a certain grammatical second person form hardly amounts to “xenophobia”
and the issue is not that it’s “so hard to learn it” the issue is that the majority of spanish speakers do not use it and yet it remains as part of the “standard” language due to the old colonial core-periphery mentality that still exists today!
