 I’ve been thinking a lot about this post from five years ago (I can’t believe its been that long) and I have some further thoughts on the topic of astrology, sexuality, the 8th house, etc. I wrote that post before I realized I was part of the ace umbrella and I feel like there’s a little bit of “us vs them” mentality (actually tbh reading that post makes me cringe a little bit, but that’s every old post of mine). I think I’ve always felt the need to play devil’s advocate when discussing the topic of sexuality in astrology because sex is such an over saturated topic in astrology (or I guess in general, in media). I’ve always considered the level of relatability in discussions around using astrology to understand relationships because the majority of relational astrology (especially very intimate relationships) puts romantic love and sexuality at the pinnacle of what defines the harmonious synastry between two individuals. 

 I also find it curious that it is still a pretty mainstream view that the 8th house defines sexuality. I think more than anything, the 8th house describes one’s relationship with intimacy as a whole and not their relationship with pleasure or desire. Intimacy and pleasure/desire can be without one another, so much so that we can literally see in astrology the natural square that occurs between the 5th house and the 8th house. 

 I think it would be rewarding to see more discussion on different types of love or expressions of intimacy in astrology, such as platonic, sensual, aesthetic, and emotional love/attraction in relation to the house that defines intimacy. Everyone has an 8th house expression, but often when I see people ask, “well I don’t really value sexuality as a form of intimacy,” it’s often met with an answer that describes them as having an absence (I’ve seen other cringy-er responses like “low libido”, “you’re cold”, “Saturn did this and that so it’s a relationship killer,” like these things have anything to do with one’s relationship with sexuality. like… you can have a high libido and still not value, enjoy, or need sex.) in that area of life. Implying someone lacks the ability to have intimacy should be replaced with the possibility that they have a deep appreciation or need for other forms of intimacy.
