I’m quite literally sobbing rn, I just made the biggest mistake of my entire life and accidentally deleted my main account.

(I made a side blog, didn’t like it, went to delete it, without realising that it deletes my main blog too like an absolutely fucking idiot.)

everything is gone. 2 whole years of work gone.

i made the chance to try again and although starting again from scratch hurts like fucking hell, I love writing too much to give up on it.

so I’d really really really really appreciate if those especially in the aot fandom could reblog and help find my moots :(

I had a blind professor, last semester, and I swung through his office to make up an exam. It was a while before I knew he was in there because he was sitting with the lights off. I finally went in, apologized, and took the exam by the light of a nearby window (which was fine). Forty-five minutes into dead silence he panicked and yelled in this booming voiced, “WAIT, YOU CAN SEE!!!” before diving across his desk to turn on the lights. I’m sure he was embarrassed but I thought it was endearing and it highlighted a large aspect of disabled life that I hadn’t previously considered.

Sort of relatedly I once had professor who was deaf, but she had learned to read lips and speak so she could communicate easily with hearing people who didn’t know sign language. One day she had gotten off topic and was talking a little about her personal life, so that one of the students said “Oh, I know, I grew up in Brooklyn too.” 

She stared at him for a long time and then said “How do you know I’m from Brooklyn?”

And he said “You have a Brooklyn accent.”

She said “I do?” and the whole class nodded, and then she burst out laughing and said “I had no idea!  The school where I learned to speak was in Brooklyn.  I learned by moving my mouth and tongue the way my teachers did.  So I guess it makes sense that I have their accent, I just never thought about it.”

My moms a sign language interpreter, and she’s signed with people from all over the US. According to her, when she signs with people from the south they sign with a “drawl.” They have slower hand movements and exaggerate certain parts of the sign. People from the Midwest sign very fast and people from the south sign very slow.

So we were at a restaurant once and my mom started interpreting for someone who was trying to order and she was like “oh you’re from the south!”

And they were like “how did you know that?”

And she said “you sign with a drawl.” And they were really surprised that it came through that much.

It’s really interesting that even when not speaking verbally accents and heritage come through.

someone said utorrent doesnt mine anymore but honestly dont use it anyway given its history, and it being proprietary closed-source adware. theres literally no reason to use utorrent, its only used because its already well known.

in comparison, programs such as qbittorrent and transmission are entirely free and open source and ad free. the great thing about being open source is you yourself (or other people who know more about security) can check the safety of the code, vulnerabilities get patched quickly, and if some bullshit does happen you can always compile it without the bullshit yourself. just make sure youre getting it from official sources, no doubt theres probably 1 or 2 fake sites with modified versions thanks to it being open source

there is literally 0 reason to use utorrent in 20fucking23, theres better options

i personally recommend qbittorrent especially if youre moving off of utorrent as its ui is explicitly designed to feel familiar to utorrent users. provided transmission as another option if you want something different, theres plenty more free opensource options out there though im sure

Walz’s executive order parallels legislation awaiting a floor vote in the state House to make Minnesota a “trans refuge state” by protecting trans people, families and care providers from a range of legal repercussions for traveling to Minnesota for gender affirming care, which includes a wide range of social and medical interventions.

While sponsors said they’re optimistic about passage in the coming weeks, the governor said the accelerating trends against trans rights in other states made it urgent for him to impose protections immediately.

The bill is authored by Democratic Rep. Leigh Finke, of St. Paul, Minnesota’s first openly transgender legislator. It would prohibit the state from enforcing court orders or child protection laws from other states if they interfere with a person’s right to seek gender affirming care in Minnesota.

Tennessee basically just did away with marriage equality????? Wait let me find article.

So this state house bill that was just passed allows clerks to not solemnize marriages that they disagree with due to religious or moral reasons. This means that same-sex marriages, interracial marriages… can be prevented because your clerk is against it.

This is just another step to destroying civil rights in America. People tried to tell others that it would not stop with drag queens and medical transition. They are coming for interfaith marriage, they are coming for interracial marriage, they are coming for you.

Unsure if I’m just the last person to have heard about this in my attempt at being relatively off-line but this is incredibly concerning.

I'm really not understanding why so many gentiles can't seem to grasp that this poll is not the place for ~fun group participation~ and them not getting a special button was deliberate.

This is about the fear many Jews live in simply for being Jewish.

I want these results to show specifically the reality that the impact antisemitism has on Jewish people without it being dominated by a majority of non-Jewish voices demanding a seat at the table because they cannot handle one poll not being catered to them.

This conversation is not for you as non-Jews to participate in, it's for you to give us the space to have it and listen to us.

the fact that none of the night at the museum movies were rated over 50% by critics is a reminder that some ppl don’t know how to have fun. the first two movies were flawless. a night watch guard has to babysit museum displays that come to life, complete w old school villains and endless historical crossovers? incredible concept, incredible execution

i am so serious when i say we as young adults are so starved and deprived of community

like we as a generation - i'm talking especially young adults who are just entering the workforce - are so so lonely! i think about it all the time. between the incoming recession and cost of living crisis + the rise of wfh + processing pandemic trauma so many of us live deeply isolated lives and i think we deserve better...i'm working fully remote and i consider myself lucky because i do have friends that i see regularly but there's a hunger for that place you can go to to be around people in an organic but meaningful way to you that is not being addressed rn! we now more than ever need communities!

Man, it's so sad (and kinda pathetic, sorry), that so many of the bad reviews for Trigun Stampede on MAL, are basically "it's different from the OG yadda yadda".

Why is it so hard for people to separate both shows? I mean, Im ok with people not liking Stampede, or not liking the new designs or missing Millie, but if your only argument to shit on the show is because you are a nostalgia baby that cant deal with change, then Im sorry, but I consider your opinion invalid.

Don't like stampede, then just go rewatch the OG anime. At least be real and admit that the OG had its faults too (have u seen the static fight scenes?), but dont come at me saying Im stupid for enjoying Stampede and claiming the OG anime was "perfect".

Dont like the show? Dont watch it. I didnt like the OG anime, but you dont see me going around calling it trash or insulting people who enjoyed the show. I like Stampede's designs more, I like the darker tone of the show and I find Orange's CG style stunning. But I understand why people enjoy the OG too even if I didnt, its just a matter of personal preferences.

So really guys. If you dont like Stampede, thats fine, no one is forcing you to watch it. But let the people who do enjoy it have their fun and bebhappy instead of going around trashing the show and insulting people.

Reminders for new ao3 users (in no particular order):

- filter your searches like you would on a library website or in an online catalogue

- don’t post placeholders, fic searches, or recommendations as fics. DON’T! It’s against ao3 TOS

- there is no algorithm. ao3 sorts by date posted/updated unless you filter with specific search criteria

- ao3 is a non profit. that means it doesn’t sell ads to make money — it only survives on donations. this is why it can show you so many fics without ever flashing an ad or pop up at you!

- report fics that break TOS when you see them (I.e., placeholder fics, searches) to help other users navigate better

- the tag “dead dove, do not eat” doesn’t equate to gore/awfulness automatically. it is a complementary tag that enhances current tags. E.g., if the fic is tagged “gore” and “dead dove, do not eat” the author really wants you to mind the gore tag

- most fandoms have a variation of “no beta, we die like (x character)” and they all link back to the “No beta” tag

- publishing a new fic sometimes means it won’t show up in the fandom/pairing tag for a few minutes

- subscribers receive update emails at different times, depending on when you update/publish your fic. there’s no good way to predict when an e-mail will be sent — it can be in 30 seconds, or two hours later

- some fics are restricted by authors to those with ao3 accounts only. if you see a blue lock in the upper right corner, that fic is only visible to logged in ao3 users

- you can block commenters now! this didn’t use to be a thing

- updating a fic just to stay at the top of the pairing tag/fandom tag is a dick move. unless you’re legitimately editing or adding chapters, this just annoys readers and fellow authors, and people will skip over your fic

- make sure that you tag your ships correctly, both romantic and platonic. Putting an "&" between a pair of names means that the ship is platonic. Putting a "/" between the characters means its romantic. For example: "Greg & Steve" = platonic. "Greg/Steve" = romantic. They are NOT interchangable.

- if your fic includes original character/s or reader insert or y/n or etc, then TAG THOSE IN THE CHARACTER TAGS. Not just in the relationship tags!! They are characters in the story, so include them in the character tags. Failing to do so means people who want to find fics with those tags won't be able to, and people who want to exclude fics with those tags won't be able to.

- NEVER EVER EVER ADD A LINK TO A PATREON OR KO-FEE ACCOUNT OR ETC. Ao3's entire legal protection hinges on the fact that no one is making money from fics. If you start commissioning fics or linking to a monetary platform, you are in breach of the Ao3 terms, risking legal action, and risking ao3 as a whole. There are loads of authors/companies who WILL sue if they think you're making money off their intellectual property.

- seconding what OP said about Dead Dove Do Not Eat. It doesn't automatically mean "gore"; it just means "heed the tags." It means "Hey yeah when I tagged this as [thing] I was NOT fucking around, ok? Only read this fic if you're OK with reading [thing]."
