My Bones Are About To Hatch

@that-artistic-cryptid

it's never too late to start brushing your teeth again. i basically never brushed my teeth for a whole 10 years. a decade. A DECADE. i still struggle to brush my teeth once a week, but it all started with brushing my teeth once every few months. so i mean it when i say brushing your teeth once a week, a month, a year, or even a decade, is better than nothing.

and still, nothing is not shameful. it is not immoral to struggle with self care. and it is also not pointless to keep trying. anything you can do, even if its wiping plaque off with a towel, is enough. it is good to take care of yourself however you can, even if it's just trying to muster the will to. reading this post is good, too.

i believe in you and i am proud of you, even in the smallest of steps. it's okay. you can give yourself grace.

You know how it is then, folks!

MANUAL BLAZE MODE GO

….am I allowed to say “whovians, grab your TARDISes?” You know how it is.

Tumblr loves doing this.  I tried to make a post about the ads that showed actual human penises in them, with screenshots, and it was taken down for violating community guidelines.... unlike the ad, I guess?

why aren't there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:

  • decades of life experience
  • boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness
  • access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence
  • "I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit" attitude

and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.

flattered that my tags passed peer review:

#their sidekick/Watson/pet hacker is a 15 year old grandkid who hangs out with gram gram on the weekends. her only power is that she has above average search engine skills and flexible knees--which is completely sufficient to round out the group's skill set.

#they involve her in heist style operations. on the rare occasion she gets caught housebreaking she explains her grandma locked herself out of the condo and asked for help getting in. then this sweet slightly addled old lady shows up and explains she got the address mixed up, it's so confusing when you're old & all the houses look alike and oh she's so sorry to have caused so much trouble!......and meanwhile the teenager is rolling her eyes bc she's aware gram gram was a highly successful career criminal & con artist for 50 years.

ANYway gimme a 80+-year-old con-artist-turned-amateur-sleuth who loves getting older because people are less suspicious of little old ladies (#this all takes place in florida naturally)

because of the many, many comments, i have now read all of the Thursday Murder Club books. I am pleased to report they are DELIGHTFUL.

if you like charming/stubborn old ladies and grumpy/shy old men who solve (and commit) crimes for fun--here you go!

(this series is also fun and poignant and contains senior citizens embracing modern values & the changing world & and basically living their best lives at 70/80+. and it's great.)

Hey, hot take, but if a company decides they no longer want to distribute a piece of media they own the rights to, then they should be legally required to sign the rights back over to the creator.

They shouldn't be allowed to just sit on the IP for the rest of time, especially if they have no intention of ever releasing it again.

You know what, that's also a valid take, let's add that to the post

In computer gaming there's a concept called Abandonware that runs on this premise. That if the company isn't making it and selling it anymore, it's acceptable to copy/download/pirate it.

Applied in a wider sense, if there's no way for you to access it legally, then illegally is fuckin' fine.

But yes, if the owner isn't using it they ought to be obligated to make it available to someone who will.

terfs celebrating that the international chess federation has banned trans women from competing in women's FIDE competitions, because it's sooooooo feminist to argue that women are so biologically inferior and nowhere near as smart as men and thus can't play chess on the same level. girl that's not feminism that's literally just misogyny

At this point we should call them TERM’s. Or bigots, actually

informed consent for medication needs to include interactions with common recreational drugs, i think

most meds these days will only tell you 'limit alcohol' and wont even make a mention of weed (though if this is different in places that have legalised it i'd be interested to know). and they never tell you specifically why you should limit alcohol and thats something everyone should have the right to know

because i was terrified as a teen getting on the meds im on now, thinking i would never be able to drink and that i had to forgo taking my meds for the day if i did. then i learned that all my meds did was to increase the effects of alcohol and that the 'limit alcohol' warning in that case was more just a 'you will get drunk faster than you are used to'

but in other cases, such as with some antibiotics, the 'limit alcohol' means 'if you drink more than a little, this medication will stop working'

and some meds are actively dangerous when taken with alcohol/other drugs, putting you at risk of getting very sick or just dead

but every single time all you get is that little label saying 'limit alcohol'

anyway, i will once again shamelessly promote my favourite harm reduction website in the whole world, the drugs.com interactions checker. standard boilerplate applies that 'this isnt a substitute for medical advice from a professional' but its sure as fuck better than nothing

According to Know Your Meme, on August 18th, 2005, Erwin Beekveld brought forth this work into the world. HAPPY TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY, THEY’RE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO ISENGARD.

sheds a single tear

every august 18th my notifications break and i go, fuck, tumblr has failed me once again, but it hasn’t. it hasn’t failed me. it’s just the taking the hobbits to isengard-iversary. happy 12 years

I regret to inform everyone that @catchaspark’s reblog was made in 2017 and that Taking the Hobbits to Isengard was actually published 17 years ago, not 12 years ago.

Actually your society is the freaks for shooting everything that moves and burning half your "nature reserves" every year so that upperclass dandies can eat leaded pheasant. North Americans are the well adjusted ones here, your country has become a desolate suburban lawn in island form
