Hey Canadian followers. If you know anyone in Calgary looking for a place to live, I need a roommate.

Place is:

  • Near DT
  • Near shopping, groceries, and the LRT
  • In a quiet neighbourhood

I have two cats with a complex living situation (one of them hates other cats, basically), so there isn't room for another animal. Sorry.

Rent is $700 (includes water and internet) plus half of electricity.

I just saw a post implying that Tumblr is doing scab work by promoting OnePiece during the strike because ~Tumblr accepted money to make this promotion and that's against SAG-AFTRA rules~

the strike prohibits union writers and actors--and writers and actors who may someday like to join the union--from engaging in and promoting their work in movies, television, and streaming (they can actually still do stage, commercials, and even soap operas, because those are different unions)

Tumblr is not part of or planning to be part of the writer or actor unions

what Tumblr is doing is just regular advertising

if regular advertising were against the strike, then there would not have been any promotion at all allowed for any movie over the last two months

I mean, yes, I completely understand being irritated with how this One Piece promotion is going

but Tumblr isn't breaking the rules of a union, which it's not now and never will be part of, by running annoying ads

Just saw a different post where that same person added that same take again, and this time I saw that the notes were full of people very firmly correcting them

but then I saw someone saying, more or less, "Yeah, they're not crossing the picket line, but they are violating the fact that you must disclose when you're doing paid advertising!"

and, once again, that's not how that works, either--the rules about stating when you're doing a promotion for which you were compensated applies to individuals, especially in social media posts that may otherwise give the appearance of someone just casually chatting with their besties about something new they tried

Tumblr is basically a corporate media entity running commercials and billboards

which by their very nature are known to have been paid for

You don't watch the SuperBowl then report the NFL to the FTC for not having a disclaimer on every commercial and stadium-side sign about being a paid promotion.

Like, yes, I absolutely get being irritated by this particular advertising campaign. But that doesn't mean there's something morally reprehensible at the core of it. It's just annoying. You don't need any deeper reason to dislike it.

God damn people really do keep looking for "virtuous" reasons to dislike things

How about it's fucking annoying

Granada Holmes Masterpost

Originally provided by granada-brett-crumbs on their blog, I have re-uploaded the series on Google Drive for everyone to watch the show in beautiful HD. I highly encourage downloading the series from the Drives, just in case one day I too may have to delete them in case my storage is too full for me to keep them. I will update this post should that day come and give everyone plenty of time to do so, but hopefully it'll be one that's very, very far in the future.

For the first half of the series, go to this lovely link For the rest of the episodes, this one

And for anyone who needs subtitles, granda-brett-crumbs has given me the link for them as well (hello!), so thank you GBC!

Enjoy everyone!

allow me to tell you of the grave error i made yesterday. it was 8pm. i was cooking moroccan stew. needed to let it simmer for 25 minutes before i added the chickpeas. i shall go upstairs, thought i, and take a shower, and leave the chickpeas on the counter to drain. puddles the cat is sleeping near the stove. i briefly consider locking her out of the kitchen - but surely even she, leviathan of unconquerable appetites, will not concern herself with hard, drained, uncooked chickpeas. surely not.

with this set-up in mind, what do you imagine i found when i came back downstairs?

My partner and I could use help affording rent. We have until the 3rd to pay before it's considered late.

My partner brings in 1400/mo to support us both and our food assistance was cut from almost 500/mo to 120/mo for both of us. I've been fighting for disability since 2018 but had to move two states since then and am stuck in a loop of having to redo medical testing and it takes forever in Albuquerque to see any specialist anywhere for anything. I was bringing in extra money through tiktok, but recently deactivated for my mental health. I was also doing sex work but stopped because of a cancer scare I'm still waiting on biopsies for.

We are currently short by around $300. Any help is a huge deal.

Bonus proof that we only get 120 a month for food and they haven't even deposited that yet for September 🥲

Of all of the online behavior that be called "fed" the weird anti-labor arguments Internet "communists" come up with to justify not supporting whatever major labor action is currently happening is definitely one of the ones that may actually be done by "feds" and/or adjacent organizations

"Starbucks workers aren't really workers because they don't engage in productive labor and have blue hair and pronouns"/"Sex workers aren't really workers because they're lumpens with no class consciousness"/"Game devs aren't really workers because they're part of the labor aristocracy"/"Writers aren't really workers because they just write propaganda for Hollywood"/"Actors aren't really workers because they're either rich actual bourgeoisie or aspirant bourgeoisie" - me when I'm definitely not a part of whatever the current version of COINTELPRO is

On April 5th 2063, within minutes of the Vulcan ambassadors’ arrival to Earth, the Wikipedia page for The Fermi Paradox was edited to include the words “was”, not “is”.

Given how fast wikipedia updates I can see that happening. Maybe. Assuming that one of the potential Very Fast Updaters of the future lives in a place with reliable enough internet access post WW3.

There’s a heated argument in the discussion section between people who haven’t heard yet.

The page gets rolled back and then updates again by a guy who’s been waiting for their signal strength to increase and actually got to the page first.

Someone asks if these ‘Vulcans’ are really aliens or just cosplayers, starting a whole new discussion argument.

Meanwhile, on Vulcan, some poor sod has to update their wikipedia-equivalents page on humans, and wonders how to possibly phrase ’S'chn T'gai Solkar kissed the first human to travel at warp’ without it sounding illogical.

Logipedia editor, updating the First Contacts page with an image of The Handshake: computer, render SolkarTheSlut.jpg

Hordes of scandalised Vulcans: delete this

Happy first contact day 🖖🏻

You skipped the step where you multiply that 16 tons per year average by 335,000,000 people—most of whom buy products from the listed companies or their competitors, and many of whom get their money to buy what they need by working for one of these companies.

Of course any major corporation as an aggregate will produce way more greenhouse gases than any one person, even a billionaire who flies private jets all the time. This is not an instructive comparison.

The idea that big corporations alone are driving ecological collapse is at best an oversimplification and at worst a soothing delusion. It certainly is true that ecological devastation is baked into the extractive industries these businesses either operate or rely on, and that the choices of individual consumption we make are comparatively unimportant. Certainly we can't "buy local/support small business" our way out of this. But we're deluding ourselves if we think our way of life won't necessarily look fundamentally different in an ecologically sustainable mode of production.

These businesses aren't going out of their way to kill the earth because it gets them off, they're operating under the logic of capitalism and trying to minimize cost and maximize profit. Consumers are trapped on the other side of the same logic. It's all interconnected and interdependent. The consumption patterns of e.g. the average usamerican are not a negligible factor in that big picture because that type of consumption presupposes the continued existence of, if not these exact companies being blamed here, some regime of extractive industry that can meet its demands. It's the world system in its entirety that must be addressed.

These businesses heavily lobby the governments of the world to avoid switching to non-carbon power sources. They also fund climate denialism.

You're a fool and a rube for carrying their water.

Very Important Update!

The staff of NKNJ now includes one (1) tiny baby named Scrambles. Jake & Roman found this tiny kitty outside, hiding in the tall grass, after hearing crying for a day or two. They think Scrambles must have been dumped bc despite being tiny they appear otherwise very healthy.

If you'd like to help Jake with vet bills to look after this unexpected new addition to the family (like, they literally found this baby an hour ago), consider a PostNormCore shirt! All profits from that collection, commissioned and curated by Jake, go directly to him.

You know how I said sometimes there actually is a real cat and you learn to spot fakes?

This is one of the rare times there’s a real cat. I’ve known the NK folks for years. If they say there’s a cat, there’s a cat. (A green flag you can look for here? Look at the age of my blog and the age of their blog, and also the blog of their owner, @vaspider. You’ll see we all have long Tumblr reputations and NK has a reputation as an honest and outstanding small business.)

So let’s get this kitter properly checked up and vaxxed. ❤️

Scrambles looks like a kitten version of one of my patients, who is a big, fluffy boo-boo boy with a silly name of his own.

VITAL UPDATE:

Despite not being what I ordered, it was hot and edible, so I'm calling it a win. It was delivered exactly three hours after I first ordered a pizza tonight.

My partner: so I had a disappointing Dad Moment today

Me: Oh?

Partner: So I was downstairs blasting Meatloaf, right? Because the kids were both upstairs keeping themselves busy. And I've got Bat Out of Hell going and -

Me: Oh! You mean the band. I thought you were making a weird euphemism about masturbating and thought this was going to be a very different conversation.

Partner: What? No! But now I'm definitely going to call that Blasting Meatloaf from now on. Anyway. So I am listening to music by the band Meatloaf at very loud volumes, and [oldest child] texted me from across the house, saying "What are you listening to? It sounds like Hamilton For Dads"

Me: Holy shit, that's brutal.... Not wrong, though.

Partner: Just fucking flay me in the public square next time, it would be kinder.
