My first question to someone who’s like, “You should give up writing and learn to code!” would be to ask, “Is that how you entertained yourself during the pandemic? With long videos of people coding? Or did you read books and watch TV and movies like the rest of us?”

^---this. Holy moly.

These same idiots DEMAND to be entertained and yet refuse to pay the people who DO entertain them and, in fact, actively work to make US obsolete.

You enjoy soulless media? Are you SURE about that?

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast - ep 122: The Legacy & Influence of Kamen Rider with Mach Dent

With Kamen Rider's 50th anniversary celebration still going strong, and the recent release of Shin Kamen Rider in North America, what better time to talk about just how huge an impact Shotaro Ishinomori's original creation had on Japanese pop culture...including it's huge influence on anime, manga, and fandom in general! And joining me to chat about it is none other than the Tokusatsu Troubadour, Mach Dent! Listen as we discuss how everything from shonen anime to magical girls to video games have been influenced by Kamen Rider, how easy it's gotten to get into the franchise now in the US, and going on random fun tokusatsu tangents! Listen in and join the shenanigans!

oil up your pecs, put on your fetish gear, and get ready to be an assassinator or get assassinatored in the alien-invaded world of this week's Stupid Comics! https://misterkitty.net/extras/stupidcovers/stupidcomics823.html

after that last post about Hollywood stealing ideas it occurs to me that since the advent of the superhero movie, Hollywood has had seventy years of work for hire script ideas that are essentially free. If you read a Marvel or DC comic book produced before 1990 (and after, mostly) it was created as "work for hire" with Marvel/DC owning all the rights to everything, everywhere, forever. The big tentpole MCU films you see every summer and that earn billions are based on comics somebody wrote and that somebody will be lucky to be invited to the premiere. And that's it. This gold mine of free intellectual labor has been a providential boon to movie producers, who now have seven decades of audience-workshopped concepts they can adapt into films without paying anyone anything. You can see how they'd want to get AI into this process and keep the free idea train chugging along. Human beings, like Jack Kirby seen here in a cameo as a police sketch artist in an episode of the Incredible Hulk TV show, need to get paid.

THIS^^^

And if you do get paid for your ideas/writing during the strike, that is considered scabbing and you will be barred from the WGA for life, as per this email from the Blacklist:

And, because a lot of people don't understand this bit, this is about you selling your ideas or writing to US-based TV studios or movie studios who are part of the AMPTP. There is no strike against book publishers. Nor audiobooks, graphic novels, or poetry publishing. Or just writing.

Read the above from the WGA.

It's really this. And some people (guess who) really hate it.

We have in this equation many, many people who, more than anything else, fear their own deaths... the final and most dreadful loss of control. After they die (and here comes their greatest terror!) the young will remake the world in their own image... there being no (putative) grownups any more to stop them.

So they're presently trying to alter political structures all over the planet in such a way as to prevent the Naughty Youngs from too quickly undoing everything their (theoretically Wise Old) elders have done. They're intent on running your lives by their rules for absolutely as long as possible, even after they're dead.

...Now. There's a lot of "Don't expect the young to save us!" stuff out there, and sometimes I half suspect those other People are behind that too. (Admittedly, it's too easy when you're young and busy to blink your eyes open after a long night out and mutter "Yeah, you made this mess, save yourselves!")

But there's a way in which this is also ridiculous. Because... honestly. They expect a generation (indeed, more than one generation) raised on Luke Skywalker to fall for that?

Pitiful.

There are way too many potential heroes out there. Likely enough you're one. You don't even have to blow up a fully operational battle station to manifest this heroism! Just vote. Or help someone vote. Or more than one someone. Help voters in your community to register. Help defeat obvious attempts to gerrymander voters out of control of their own districts. Do the little things. Enough little things can't be stopped by the forces that assume everybody else to be as lazy and selfish as they are.

You outnumber the fascists. Stand up and act like it. "Snowflakes", they call us? Get enough snowflakes together and you've got an avalanche. Tried standing in front of one of those lately?

Meanwhile, I for one have no problems with saying, loudly, "Save us, O Young! You're our only hope." (Imagine me as a holographic projection if you must.) :)

And for now, I'll be out there doing what one person can.

Please, you do that too!

Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?

Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.

Now, it's just... Social media. That's it. Social media and news sites. And I'm tired of social media and I'm tired of the news.

Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?

Long collection of resources under the cut.

ALSO you should consider browsing Virtual Pet List and seeing if there are any pet sites you might be interested in playing. There is a whole genre of browser games right under your nose

YOU CAN READ A WEBCOMIC! Here's one. I explore trading cards! I like browsing through PKMNCards for high quality art and learning about old sets. Scryfall fulfills the same purpose for MTG. I love browsing the art in my free time!

Music Map is a great way to find new music to listen to. It's not always great, but gives me a lot to make my own choice on what to listen to next. Heck, Bandcamp always gives me new releases to preview new songs, admire new artwork, and learn about new artists.

At 5PM I can check the new Fortnite item shop! It's like my daily zodiac cause I usually have a vague idea of what's coming next.

So much cool stuff to do!

Furvilla is a pet site I visit on a daily basis. You can upload art to make your pets/villagers look like OCs and give them different occupations (doctor, cook, explorer, warrior, etc). The forums are a good way to do commissions, if you're looking to earn money.

The userbase is dying. FV needs more members, so sign up! It's free

Found this cool little jigsaw game while researching children's books. It seems simple, but I wasted an hour putting the puzzles together

Just search for a book title, or pick one from the site. Then you choose how many pieces you want the puzzle to have.
