Tridentarii close ups 💎♊️💜
i know that a lot of harrow & camilla friendship content is centered on a sort of younger/older sibling type bond but i do feel like we are missing the real quality they have in common which is Bitches Who Will Hold A Grudge
nona the ninth but as a podcast consisting solely of cam and pal’s tape recordings
It's not missing Harrowhark that makes Kiriona the saddest girl in the world. Or at least, it's not just the lack of Harrow.
She fought all her life to escape the Ninth, fueled by the conviction that there was a better world waiting for her if she could just get out. As a kid, that was the fantasy of a super cool and important parent who could rescue her and punish the people who hurt her. Later, it was believing that as soon as she rescued herself, she would prove to everyone how awesome she was. She would make herself a hero, and she would be so valued and useful even Harrow would have to admit it.
Now she has every status symbol she ever yearned for, and none of it means anything. None of it feels good. She's escaped, and it turns out there was no better world waiting for her. Kindness is rare, and the people who show it die meaningless violent deaths. The rest of the universe has proved itself to be almost as cold and dark and isolating as the Ninth, filled with horrors she'd never imagined.
Kiriona Gaia is the saddest girl in the world because she's lost hope. She has everything she ever wanted, and it all sucks. So what is there left to want? What is there left to fight for? What is there left to live for?
Agreed.
I want Kiriona to get Harrow back, but I think to be not the saddest girl in the world, she’s going to have find her center, rather than defining herself in relation to others: a Cavalier to Harrow, a daughter to the emperor, an officer to the Cohort. She’s not just sad because she misses Harrow; she’s sad because she built her identity around how useful to Harrow she could be and then believes [erroneously] that Harrow rejected her. She’s got all this bluster, but underneath it, she’s got a really low self-esteem.
Nobody elected John Gaius to be Emperor...
He Alecto-d himself
Anyone ever notice that the black rapier in Harrow the Ninth (the one that keeps drawing her attention) is described in ch. 16 as decorated with canine teeth? Assuming the rapier is Anastasia's (or Samael's for that matter), does that mean they had a dog?
Now, this is gonna sound a little unhinged but around page 250 of my Nona the Ninth reread, I started suspecting Aim/the Angel/the Messenger is in fact a "perfect" lyctor. Pash refers to her as "they", and on page 250, Camilla/Palamedes "reads" them by touching their hips. Now, Lyctors as we know them are black voids for regular necromancers, right? What if that is a side effect of the cav being used improperly as a battery, and perfect Lyctors are not sucking away all thalergy like that? Did Pal glean something in that tumble which helped him and Cam create Paul? Is Aim the result of Anastasia's and Samael's "failed" (read: perfect) attempt at Lyctorhood? (Side note, even the name Aim works out if we're loosely working with the rules of Paul's name). Did they turn to BOE after EJG deemed their attempt as failed?
Another fun fact: Aim recognized the (I assume) elephant Nona drew as a "cradle creature". The Sanskrit word for elephant is Gaja, denoting fertility, abundance, etc. In many cultures, the elephant is a symbol of fertility, protection, good luck, or even a cosmic creature, which all together sounds pretty close to a cradle. (NOTE: not in Christianity, there it represents human kind as caught in sin and unable to rise.) Did Nona understand "elephant" literally as "cradle creature", like she understands many languages? Does that mean that Aim knows firsthand what an elephant is? Are they 10.000 years old?
Anyway, back to the point! Is Noodle (a descendent of) Anastasia's and Samael's dog??? And did they use their teeth to decorate their rapier? Is Noodle such a good boy that he's 10.000 years old? Or is teeth rapier dog such a good dog that their puppies and bloodline survived forever? Is Anastasia a dog person? Find out next time.
Imagine harrow’s thoughts when she realized the pool at Canaan house was saltwater she was prolly like Hmm… a SALTWATER pool… hmm…
I don't wanna further hijack that poor poll, but the thing about Harrow's schizophrenia is that it's canon. The author has confirmed it, and shared that it's based on her own experience.
It's a pretty obscure bit of canon, so of course there's no shame in not already knowing, but that's why I'm so obnoxiously persistent about letting people know.
Whatever else is up with Harrow, autism or cptsd or any number of likely headcanons, she is also schizophrenic. I feel like that's too important to be handwaved away as a difference of opinion.
Gideon Nav fumbling bad bitches left and right like every woman at Canaan House would have had her carnally but she was too busy being shy and fumbling the bag. king 👑
This is Harrow's crypt script:
I shan't be taking any questions at this time.
Had to get this out of my system!! Have some more doodles in mind for this…
