I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.

They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.

They’re not. They can’t. This studio propaganda, and here’s why.

In the increasingly mega-merged and hedgefundified Hollywood, these companies live or die on their quarterly earnings reports. It only takes one bad quarter for their stock price to plunge, putting the company and the CEO’s job in jeopardy.

But their stock prices are holding steady, right? Right. For now. Because our industry is a pipeline that starts with writers. The TV and movies they’re releasing now are shows we started making for them 4-12 quarters ago. But what happens when that pipeline runs dry?

What happens is they run out of product. No new shows in streaming to drive and sustain subscribers. No new shows in broadcast and ad-supported to bring in ad revenue.

No shows, no money.

No money, bad earnings report.

Bad earnings report, bye-bye stock price. Bye-bye CEO.

After 70+ days with no writers to create their product for them, the pipeline is running dry.

Their stock price isn’t tanking yet. But if they don’t make a deal with us, it will.

And they know it.

If they make a deal soon, they might be able to weather it. Stretch out releases. Rush some new stuff through.

But the longer they keep us out, the longer that pipeline runs dry, the more unavoidable a catastrophic dip in new high-quality shows becomes.

And they know it.

So yeah, the studios are planting articles in the trades that make it sound like they’re so determined not to pay us the 0.02% of company revenues we’re asking for that they’re willing to hold out forever.

Bullshit.

I’m sure the AMPTP bosses would love to break our union. But they love their jobs more. They love money more. They can’t make that money without us.

And they know it.

Twitter is bad but I'm realizing that if it dies then there will be zero mainstream social media platforms where NSFW content can be posted without restrictions (reddit doesn't really count, it's a combination forum host/link aggregator), and that really, really scares me with regards to where we are at as a society.

I am reminded of the famous burrito test, which states that "if you cannot get up at 3am and microwave a burrito, you live in an institution". I propose an analogous maxim for community and social spaces, both online and offline; if you cannot post hole for your friends to see, despite your mutual consent, you aren't in an "open social platform", you are being farmed as somebody's product.

and honestly, i wanna say that they created the balance of AUs in the first place. it would make an amazing concept that Nightmare had been the one affecting Geno into becoming Error passively and kept affecting him with madness to destroy AUs

and Dream was the one to passively make Ink more creative with his positivity, lessening their art block and helping with creation

and I also thought about tying the twins together more but I needed a reason why Dream would fight his brother in the first place so stone prison it is

despite this, once Dream was free, I can still imagine the two are linked very closely as if they were one and the same

Them affecting the workings of the multiverse is such a Godling thing to do. Multiple Errors mean many destroyers willing to work with Nightmare. If he doesn't like them he can just cull them.

Dream helping out Ink even though he doesn't fully agree with the being. Seeing as Ink is greatly favored by creators helping with art block means more AUs and more chances for power. Plus it's easier to convince people when you aren't just a lone God who doesn't really understand social structure because you were always in charge. Which brings the addition of Blue into his team who's been training to work for the guard.

Being trapped in stone would take a toll on Dream and I think it's mostly because he knows others depend on him. Not only that but Blue can't stay alive forever like Ink can. And there is not even a complete guarantee that Ink will even remember Dream.

The only way Dream could connect with him is through the creators(aka us). I do love the idea of Ink doing a bunch of paintings and drawing of Dream and then going, "I don't know who you are...but you're so warm and pretty."

The absolute chaos of magic trapping Dream would bring and letting Nightmare rampage is so delicious. And when Dream busts out that rock he's fuckin pissed.

But also sorta like gets it now, so there are positives!

oh my god, Dream coming out of his stone prison and immediately going "Night, really? a couple hundred years in stone?" as if it hadn't phased him as much as it should have. Being beyond age or physical presence. Maybe Dream was watching over his brother that whole time and they were talking in some sort of dream state. Or Nightmare talking to seemingly no one when Dream astral projects himself in his office.

and theyre just so casual with each other even though the people they work with are enemies.

Nightmare sometimes getting frustrated and leaving the room and the team thinks they did something bad when it was really Dream ranting about how cute and domestic his whole team was.

Or Nightmare picking out outfits and choosing brighter colors because Dream makes the suggestion, "You CAN wear purple all of the time, just pastels maybe? Horror loves bright colors, I thought you'd notice."

"I did notice."

"Then wear brighter colors more!"

One day Nightmare is having an argument with Dream and it's so bad that All of the team wake up covered in different types of art mediums and drawings of yellow and purple clashing.

"Nightmare, you've been talking to yourself for several hours now, are you alright...?" Cross asks, hesitant.

Nightmare makes a soft sound of frustration and waves intently in the air beside him.

'Oh, that's right. He can't see me, can he? A shame, it would be nice if I could bring my body to speak with him.'

"Yes, I'm fine. I'm just trying to get some quiet but its very loud in my office." He grits out.

Cross gave a look of concern, brows knitted together.

"Well, I can try to see if I can keep things quiet in the base, then..."

Nightmare nods half-heartedly and turned to go back in his office.

"Yes, yes, do that..."

'Cross is looking very nice today. Do you pick out his clothes? Are you sure you don't want to free me from my prison? He looks like he makes good company.'

"Yes, I'm sure. Please stop talking about him. Ugh, maybe I should've tried binding your being to your body as well..."

'Awww... You don't mean that, right brother? You'd get so bored without me!'

"I think I'm starting to prefer that over this..."

YEAH like Nightmare is just trying to be as normal as he usually is and Dream is a constant presence. I love the potential of this the most because, Dream would probably never really talk about himself.

He would ask Nightmare about books, neat little facts, things that he likes doing, to look around the castle. Wanting to be with Nightmare in the garden or outside. Or watching Horror cook in the kitchen and Killer hide away in tight spaces. Seeing Cross do mountains of paper work because of all the AUs they have to manage. Dust reading in the library, a pile of books stacked beside him.

Just watching the monsters Nightmare has surrounded himself with and reflecting on it. Because it would make him realize how upsetting their whole childhood was. They both didn't get to be the most comfortable, they slept outside under a tree. They had no guiding force in their life and to make jokes was dangerous. Dream had the right to interact and make marry with others while Nightmare was stuck.

Stuck under a tree like he's stuck in stone. Rotting all alone like his stone is cracking from rain and plants. Stuck in his own mind as he watches the worlds move without him. He's gone and it doesn't matter to anyone that he is.

Nightmare probably notices the change in Dream as soon as he gets more somber. Yet instead of comforting him he just heads outside and sits in the garden. Doing something to busy his hands as Dream drifts around and looks at the flowers.

It's just, so tasty.

Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP

An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:

(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)

I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:

IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.

You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:
