People say that old games dont look as good as they remember

Its because they legitimately dont.

The “fuzz” from CRT monitors was something that was definitely accounted for and taken advantage of back in the day when it came to video games! While this effect is noticeable in 3D games, it’s MUCH more visible when it comes to 2D sprites:

Just look how much more depth these simple sprites of Princess Peach and Bowser from Super Mario RPG seem to have when seen through the “dots” of a CRT TV screen!

The more I learn about mycotoxin exposure the more I’m convinced that most haunted/possessed house stories are just houses with mold in the walls.

That shit’ll fry your brain.

Mold and other fungi. Ungrounded electricity. Food poisoning. Night terrors. Sleep paralysis. Sleep deprivation. The fact that when we don't see a human face, muscles related to hearing tighten to be able to hear farther for threats. Minerals leaking into pipes.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is usually my go-to when people come to me asking for advice about a haunted house/being cursed, usually followed up by most of the above.

Like sorry if you thought my witch ass was just going to tell you to place a salt ring and burn some incense or w/e, but if you come to me telling me you’re seeing shit/got ill/your partner started acting weird when you moved into your new house, my witch ass is still going to tell you to check you’re not being poisoned by your surroundings before I jump to “you got ghosts in your veins.”

In highschool I wrote a story about a middle-generation of stellar travelers. Their parents were born on earth and left as children, and the middle generation will not live long enough to see their destination. They live their entire lives on the ship and I wrote about them trying to find their place in everything. They will never know blue skies and warm beaches and open fields with warm breezes. They’ll never know birdsong or crickets or frogs. They’ll never hear the rain on the roof of a dreary day. I never could find the right way to end the story. I wanted it to be a happy ending, but I didn’t know how to do it.

I realize now that it was a book about me dealing with depression before I even knew it. Looking back at how blatant the projecting was, it’s obvious now. It wasn’t then.

In the story, the middle-generation people are lost. They’re apathetic. They’re just a placeholder. The only job they have is to keep the ship running, have kids, and die. As the middle generation of people began becoming adults, suicide rates were skyrocketing. Crime and drug rates were jumping. This generation was completely apathetic because they felt that they had no use.

In the story, a small group of people in the middle-generation create the Weather Project. They turn the ship into a terrarium. They make magnificent gardens and take the DNA of animals they took with them and recreate them and they make this cold, metal spaceship that they have to live their entire lives on into a home. They take what little they have and they break it and rearrange it into something beautiful. They take this radical idea and turn the ship into a wonderful jungle of trees and birds and sunshine.

And I realize now how much it reflects my state of mind as I transitioned from a child into an adult while dealing with depression. You always hear “it gets better” and “when you’re older things will be easier” and I was so sick of waiting for it to get better. I was in the middle-generation stage. And I was sick of it. I was so sick of waiting.

When I was in highschool I didn’t know how to end the story. I didn’t know how to have a happy ending. I didn’t have the life experience then to finish the story in a meaningful way. I didn’t know how to make it better for these middle-generation characters.

But now that I’m older, I’m learning. That if you sit and wait for things to get better, it never will. You have to take your life and break it apart and rearrange it into something beautiful. You have to make the cold metal ship into the garden that you deserve. You have to make your own meaning. You have to plant your own garden.

You have to teach yourself that being happy is not a radical idea.

God you guys I never thought this would become so popular 😱 I was gonna name it The Weather Project after the art installment that inspired it

FUCK YOU DISNEY

Anyways, y’all better start saving your fave fanfics and fanart under the Disney labels cause it looks like they’re trying to curb fair use/fanworks and I’m sure there’s going to be mass panicked deletions even though it’s probably unnecessary cause AO3′s legal team will fight for us.

You know that 400K yall were so fucking mad about OTW raising? Yeah, its gonna pay for the travel expenses and court costs that the legal team at AO3/OTW when they protect your shit from getting C&Ded. DO NOT DELETE YOUR STUFF! IF YOU GET CONTACTED BY DISNEY - GO TO THE ORGANIZATION OF TRANSFORMATIVE WORKS , CONTACT THEIR LEGAL ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT! ASK FOR HELP!! THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE IS *WHY* *THEY* *EXIST*

Avatar

Note that Disney would have one Hell of a time serving C&Ds to authors at AO3 - because there is no “contact author” option other than leaving a comment.

They’d have to contact the SITE, which is to say, the Organization for Transformative Works, to deliver a C&D order or a DMCA takedown order.

And the OTW is not going to remove fics because someone sent a letter that says “actually those characters belong to me and you can’t use them that way.” The OTW was created to FIGHT that kind of claim. They are ready.

Don’t delete your fics out of fear. WE OWN THE SERVERS. They can’t threaten the hosts into deleting anything.

And if Disney thought they had a strong legal case against fanfic, they’d’ve shut down the archive a decade ago, when it was penniless and unknown, instead of waiting until it had won several battles in Congress and got worldwide acclaim for a Hugo Award.

This is important!

WE OWN THE SERVERS

and that’s why ao3 being user owned, funded, and operated is essential.

It makes sense. Could have been "Literally 'cock' in the sense of 'male chicken.'"

hi there! I've just gone through some of your stuff about centaurs and I'm kinda loving it lol. one thing that's always bothered me about centaurs though is how do they run? how do they gallop? because if you look at how a horse holds itself while running its very different from how a human would. and also why would the centaur do with its arms? how do centaurs minimize wind resistance with their awkward bodies? I am confusion in this regard

Avatar

(Another from Anon:) heyy ive recently been into centaurs but there's something i can't wrap my head around, how do they run? how does the human part move? does it Naruto run? where do the arms go? are they still? so many questions-

Glad you’re enjoying them thank you! But Centaurs definitely have a strong case of “What do I do with my hands” which is why I tend to put things in their arms when I draw them haha But if they’re just running I imagine they would hold their arms like we do while running-

Which is half-crooked! It helps absorb the bounce of the run and makes your arms more mobile to help counter-balance the movement! I imagine centaurs wouldn’t need it as much as us bipedal messes to for counterbalancing the stride, but it still feels more natural.

Also it plays into my thoughts on centaur babies that their arms are pulled into a tucked up position for up to the first year or so by tendons that loosen as they age, which helps them be a little less unwieldy while they grow into their horse bodies for counterbalance. And even adult centaurs will return to that habit when startled or nervous as a self-soothing gesture!

Alright you bunch of hooligans, since 90+% of comments were “what about Naruto run” enjoy the consequences of your actions

A very important option that noone asked for but came up in household discussion:

I just don't think "bigot decides to stop being a bigot bc they fall in love with x marginalized group they were previously against" is ever a good storyline

So, here's a thought.

If Obi-Wan had gone to Mandalore instead of Ahsoka, he probably would have believed Maul. Don't know how much it could change, but yeah.
