In my personal experience (which is, granted, not universal) I have never been an actor in a play that 100% went as it was supposed to the whole time. There is always an actor who skips a line, or forgets stage directions, or took a bit too long to change costumes and is now late for their appearances. But the thing about theater is that it's a live performance- you can't just apologize and redo the scene. You have to carry the characters through the important plot beats even if you have to ad-lib to do so. Do you get what I'm saying? A character in a play is not a fixed thing. A book will not change lines between readings. A movie will not change shots between rewatchs. But in theater, a character may act differently, speak differently, but they have to reach the same ending regardless. Characters in a play are trapped, not because things are already written- they do have some leeway- but because everything will conspire to drag them back on their predestined road. Do you understand? Do you understand what I'm saying?

Single Handedly Causing a Mass Extinction with Rapid Climate Change, *mostly* by accident
(the mostly is for humans, who eventually started realizing what we were doing and yet have continued doing the thing, rendering it On Purpose)
(I am assuming Archaeopteris never realized what they were doing but I guess I could be wrong)
what did they do
they were trees
Earth had never had SO MANY trees before
they were EVERYWHERE
they pumped out impossible quantities of oxygen
lowering the temperature rapidly
and also breaking up bedrock more than plants had before, causing huge influxes of nutrients into the soil and water, which lead to algal blooms and similar problems, causing widespread anoxia in the water in addition to the rapid cooling - in fact, the weathering of rocks caused by this process further exacerbated the temperature by drawing in CO2, thus lowering the temperature even more
in the end, this extinction was even worse than the one that killed the nonavian dinosaurs! But not as bad as the End-Permian.
If your child is born a clown, you've got to let them clown. You can't un-clown a child by prohibiting them from doing clown shit. You've just raised a clown that doesn't do anything.
