the roulette machine is still just a machine we can break the machine if enough of us try
funniest thing about the thing (1982) is that the titular thing is both a master manipulator who can perfectly replicate anyone but also a big bundle of nerves who flips out and starts screaming and turning into 5000 meat parts at once the INSTANT it’s found out
like at one point the thing replicates a guy who has a heart condition, promptly has a heart attack, and then gets so freaked out by the defibrillator it starts biting people
the thing is a master actor who is absolutely awful at improv and the show keeps going wrong

youtube/google is getting much more aggressive about trying to shut down adblockers, part of which is them taking bullying legal action against a project called "invidious.io", which is an open source free frontend that can run in a browser or app and lets you watch youtube without ads and even all the google tracking analytics, sure would be a shame if lots more learned about such an option and started using it huh
Shout out to trans women who aren’t computer scientists or musicians or avant-garde artists or whatever.
Shout-out to tgirls who work at Taco Bell. Thank u queen, society would collapse without you
Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the “gay Taco Bell”, but since I was coming from the “gay Howard Johnson’s” I wasn’t shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And they’d worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the “gay Taco Bell” on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they haven’t changed much in 20 years. I’m still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your city’s version of the “gay Taco Bell” is key to survival.
Thank u for sharing this with us

there is a demon in your house named CARBON MONOXIDE. he enchants your mind with confusion and your body with exhaustion. you need to call a powerful exorcist named HVAC TECHNICIAN
You fool I am a highly skilled warlock a demon is no match to me
It is showing me that Ben Laden did the moon landing
you know I wouldn't be surprised if there was a gas leak in your house.
Every post I make about lawns leads me back to the reality that the problem is Homeowners' Associations, so I am trying to research Homeowner's Associations (I don't know what they are exactly), and as far as I can tell they are some type of lawn mafia (?)
This website which has "HOA: Everything you need to know" provides this information:
- you pay money to them every month
- the money sometimes (?) is used to maintain a pool or something that you can swim in
- they make up rules for things you can't do in your own house or yard
- if you break the rules, they make you pay more money, sue you, or kick you out of your house
People sign a contract that lets the Homeowner's Association control their lives for the reason that they might get to swim in the pool and because of a persistent rumor that HOAs increase "Property Values" (?) although the website says "The data is mixed on whether that's true or not"
This is one of those things where it seems like we would have remembered to make it illegal by now. I live in my house and some stinky punk tries to tell me that I can't paint it a color- the very boards of the side of my house. If I continue, said putrescent busybody then removes me bodily from my home for painting the wall that I bought and legally own, rendering me homeless. This seems to run contrary to many rights and freedoms a citizen is assumed to possess
I assume the legality is according to a similar principle as pyramid schemes where if you are dumb enough to agree to one, that is no one's problem but your own (I don't know very much about law either)
But many pyramid schemes are cults, so they at least should be recognized as a rather dangerous social problem.
An HOA is something more like if a pyramid scheme involved living in a company town with strict behavioral regulations. Amenities and services don't cancel this out—that's just not how anything works in this world. Most cults provide amenities and services. That's how they getcha
So as a law student who got a pretty decent grade in Property Law and was told I understand contracts really well
HomeOwners Associations (HOA’s) are entities that own property in residential districts they can either own in part or in whole the property your home is on.
But does that mean I don’t own my home? No! You own your home but when you buy. Ket word. You are given the HOA contract to sign which is separate of your purchase contract for your home. Typically. What the HOA does is lawn maintenance, general safety, either by having a private contractor or organizing a neighborhood watch, they maintain common areas like pools or clubhouses or even sidewalks and roads themselves!
You pay these fees! Because when you bought your house you agreed to being part of an HOA.
Can I buy a house and not belong to an HOA? Of course! Sales on homes are private contracts. But the HOA may have a rule that the current owner may be limited in their selling options that only people they approve of or those who sign the agreement (CONTRACT) to join the HOA are allowed to purchase and live in the property!
HOAs are unfortunately beyond powerful. Most courts when residents have issues will not overturn HOA decisions because you as a resident have the power to vote in who runs it and that’s about it! They are all powerful entities! But if a vast majority of the residents at an annual meeting want to disband an HOA permanently they have the power to do so as well! The residents are voting members.
The problem comes into the fact that not all HOAs are obvious in nature.
A gated community is the most obvious visual. Private roads. Predetermined house colors. Lawns of pre-determined everything! Even regulations on what you can do inside your own home! And it’s completely legal because if you sign the HOA agreement your in
It’s the house mafia via giving Karen’s the outmost power.
Non obvious HOAs are more subtle. It could be a small community that has just one external sign telling you which neighborhood your in and that’s it! That’s the type of HOA my aunt lives in. They predetermined certain things. Like house and roof colors that owners can choose from
The way an HOA is supposed to work is that residents sign the agreement and something is taken care of for them in return for service. It’s taxes on its basic level. But includes other limitations that may be more ridiculous under the guise of property value and keeping a neighborhood safe for children!
Hope this makes you hate HOAs even more!
