[ID: a tag reading, “#don’t eat citrus if you have any mental health problems #the vitamin C is so bad for you” end ID]
losing my fucking mind over how people will come on here and say just the easiest to disprove absolutely inane lies. for no reason at all
This is so funny because of how long a chain of telephone it is. The starting point is that grapefruit juice SPECIFICALLY can interact negatively with several mental health medications (notably, not amphetamines). Then this tumblr post* and MULTIPLE NEWS ARTICLES got popular, stating that consuming anything acidic (including vitamin C) within an hour of taking your ADHD meds would render them ineffective. In reality, a large dose of vitamin C taken directly with an amphetamine-based ADHD medication has the potential to cause a minor dampening effect, but has no effect on other ADHD meds.
These presumably got filtered/combined into the idea that vitamin C is bad to take with ANY mental health meds, which then got turned into the idea that if you have mental health problems, scurvy may be right for you!
“Ok but this is gonna be a funny story some day…..”
The worst thing you can do, as someone who has recently realised they are transfem, is to let terves and transphobes convince you cis women will never accept you.
I was told that when I came out everyone would reject me. That I would find myself isolated from the world, and from other women especially, who would react to me with horror and revulsion.
In reality, within the first months of coming out, in no particular order:
My sister's reaction on my coming out was, "Right, so I have a sister instead of a brother. Cool. I'm taking you clothes shopping tomorrow."
A friend, when she learned I am a woman, immediately invited me to her women-only, girls-night-out birthday party the following week.
Another friend, when a friend of hers expressed doubts about my gender, immediately shut them down and reaffirmed I am a woman.
I went camping with a group of friends, and we had two tents, one for the boys and one for the girls; I was unsure as to which I should enter, to which a girl friend responded by grabbing me and physically dragging me inside the women's tent.
In the women's bathroom at a movie theatre a random woman, whom I'd never seen before and haven't seen since, stopped me as I was going into a stall, to warn me there was no toilet paper in there, because she'd just used the last of it.
All of these, and more, some from friends, some from complete strangers. All within a few months, as a trans woman who hadn't started medical transition yet, and was very visible as being a trans woman.
I've had some people reject me, true, but the vast majority, including almost all cis women, accepted me as a sister with open arms.
Cis women are cool. It's terves who are bigots.
I needed to see this today
netflix is about to lose so many subscribers. like they think blocking password sharing is the answer when in reality they're almost exclusively hurting pissed off families with split living situations & people who don't have constant access to wifi. these people and the people they shared their pw with are not going to be like "aw darn well better make another account for my son in college and pay double now :)" they're gonna say "well this fucking sucks and isn't worth the money anymore" and CANCEL Netflix ahdhdjakajajdjsjakssjsj

making silly sounds doesn’t always have to serve a purpose and is sometimes done purely for whimsy’s sake
Joined a discord server that was supposed to be a place for talking about special interests and to my utter bemusement, all of the infodump channels were about different media. Shows, movies etc. That was it! No other options.
Listen… y’all know “special interest” is not a synonym for “show I’m obsessed with,” right? I mean, it can be about media. But that is not all it is.
I collect wooden wands and fabric samples. Some autistic people collect figurines. Or stamps, or cards, or catalogs. Or doorknobs. Collecting certain items is a hugely common special interest. So is collecting information, be it about a specific animal, a historical period, a specific type of technology, etc. I’ve read of a kid whose special interest was washing machines.
It is well known that special interests are a way for autistic people to interpret/understand/make sense of the world, to find order in chaos, to create a sense of security by making ourselves “experts” on that topic.
Well, that is not just true for special interests with a Blorbo you can project on!!!
The weird kid in your class whose special interest is collecting gum wrappers? His special interest is as profoundly meaningful to him as your show is to you.
Don’t leave us out of autistic spaces because our special interests are seemingly uncommon or weird or not meaningful. Don’t make the same mistake allistics do when they characterize an autistic person as robotic or subhuman for being obsessed with a specific mundane item or category.
pro tip if you start saying hewwo as a joke it will eventually come to be your standard greeting for all loved ones
Or, in a more generalized form, beware what thou do ironically, lest thou begin to do it ronically.
Started out as a bit, how did it end up like this
it was only a bit IT WAS ONLY A BIT
We use the word "modern" to refer to way too many goddamn things. I tend to not care for modernist literature because I usually find it bland, insincere, and preachy, but you can't just say the words "I don't care for modernism" without adding more context because that sounds like something an altright would say about how there's not enough racism nowadays.
I have already lived long enough to see the bizarre obsession people who lived 100 years ago had with calling all of their own shit "modern" as if time isn't ongoing become a semantic problem
And doesn't post-modern refer to stuff 40-50 years ago? What exactly are we anyway? Is it all just cyclic?
Are we pre-modern now?
History ended and now we're living through History 2: The Squeaquel

i love paintings that look as if they have ghosts in them
this painting by andrew wyeth has got SO many ghosts in it. most andrew wyeth paintings have ghosts in, but this is off the scale!
this painting by dragan bibin has only one ghost as far as i can tell, but it's a really scary ghost (the dog thinks so too)
this painting by meraud guevara looks very peaceful, but unfortunately it has a ghost in it. i can't tell you where, but it does
you might think you can see the ghosts in this dorothea tanning painting, but you're wrong. the little girls are just ordinary girls. the actual ghost is behind one of those doors.
marvin cone. for fucks sake just look at it
my favorite personal dragon headcanon is that like birds they also can't see glass, but it just isn't an issue for them
totally unbothered
So from the dragon's point of view, every once in a while, glitter magically showers down around them with a pleasant tinkling noise.
imagine if aliens found the dead body of a human being exploded in the vacuum of space and they started making fun of the mutilated corpse calling it “splatter alien” and saying it was the ugliest alien in the whole galexy. and then made stuffed animals of it to sell to their alien kids. that’s what happened on this planet to the blob fish
fight the slander. post pressurized blobfish
I love this picture because even 70 years ago, way up in the Arctic in a culture very different than my own, a 17 year old still had the same “Dad, please hurry up and take the damn picture” expression that characterized every picture taken of me from 2001-2007.
Some things are universal
A small PSA to all those new to dealing with the porn bots that Tumblr now has a fresh wave of – I understand that when you go to report them, you want to report them as "[containing] sexually explicit material", but don't do that. Report them as spam instead.
These are spam bots flooding tags and the website in general with spam links. They often do not have anything sexually explicit on their blog (although they often have implicit material). Plus, these two reports get very different results. Reporting explicit material gets the bot slapped behind an 18+ wall, so minors can't check if they're a bot or not. Reporting spam gets the bot taken down.
Remember, folks: when dealing with a bot, report spam, not smut!
