As a white person I feel obligated to reblog this because we need to see this sort of shit more especially in tv shows and stuff like that, will help the future children be less dickish
These pictures speak so loud
Uhuh. If you’re white and this makes you feel uncomfortable… good… it should. Having our own privilege shoved in our faces SHOULD be uncomfortable because, for the most part, we’re blind to it.
The Way We Perceive - On Jimin and the fandom
I asked you, my dear readers, if you wanted an explanation on how my post relates to JM and a good amount of you massaged me and said yes - so here we are!
(Warning/Disclaimer: This post will be a long one. I will be talking about JM & the fandom, and also about what I think are the deeper reasons for things being the way they are in regards to the systematic hate JM has been receiving. So if that bothers you in any way - I’d advise you to not continue reading this post.
Also Important: Please keep in mind that these are just my thoughts and feelings, I am not claiming to know the boys personally. Nothing of what I say is meant to hurt anyone. You also don’t have to agree with me, and if you have questions - ask respectfully.)
Let’s begin!
So if you watched the video I attached in this post, you’d know the topic was about Cinderella; the famous 1950 Disney movie and how people often tend to blame the character for being passive, weak, a damsel in distress; waiting for a prince charming to save her.
But the video explains nicely how this is all simply a misreading on Cinderella’s character, and how while the story certainly reflects it’s times and is by no means perfect, Cinderella herself is actually far from this nonredeemable character that our culture often makes her out to be, because if we look at the actual story without assuming we know everything about it - we would see that she is judged by our culture shared interpretation of Cinderella, rather than by she actually does and says in the film.
While people perceive her to be weak and powerless, she chooses to lead with kindness, is caring and optimistic even when times are tough, and she has a big imagination and creativity under her belt, which in the end - is what helps her escape her unfortunate life situation.
Victim mentality =/= acknowledging one’s pain and experience
A lot of people seem to forget that she is the victim of abuse. Both mentally and physically. When you’re in that kind of environment, your mindset will change drastically depending on your personality and real life circumstances.
“Are you able to get out? Do you have somewhere to go? Do you even trust people to ask for help? Do you believe in yourself enough despite being mentally broken to actually get on your feet again?”
These are just some of the questions that might come up for a victim of abuse and things they need to consider. Should they get out of the situation? Of course, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s not that simple.
The victim can be stuck in multiple ways, a lot of it has to do with the way they view themselves due the abuse they have suffered, and also not having the resources available to them to actually make the escape possible.
“But Nana, how does that even relate to JM?“
Well, while I wouldn’t say BH is the evil step mother and JM is the victim, there is something there that makes sense to me. I will try to explain it in the best way I can, so stay with me here and try to keep an open mind.
First, as we know, JM has been famous for his muscly abs and body from the very beginning, "No More Dream” being the most memorable example of that.
The question is:
Was JM truly okay with it at the time?
Anyone who observed JM for a long time would know that despite his extroverted nature, he is a shy and private person in some areas. And his body is one of those areas. He was forced to show skin despite him being uncomfortable about it, a fact that he mentioned to NJ as well.
JM was just a minor at the time.
I believe it was in one of their Festas (2016) where they talked about how JM was really shy before debut, and how he didn’t really want to show his abs.
Nonetheless, being the professional he is, he took on the role of the “sexy, charming park jimin” and there’s no doubt a lot of people were drawn in to BTS thanks to his charisma on stage. Thus giving JM the nickname “the recruiting fairy” among fans.
However, with that comes a burden.
JM has been pretty open about his struggles with body image, the pressure to keep those abs must have been hard to carry, and I suspect coming from a background in dance, especially in the contemporary field where a lot of it is based on technique and looking at your flaws head on, it can make one very self critical.
It means looking at yourself in so many angles to determine how you would look to your audience. Part of the reason JM is so good at what he does is because he takes so much time and effort in perfecting his craft to tiniest details. This is why he is often praised for his “pretty lines”, it’s all in the way he positions his whole body from head to toe.
Coupled with the fact that he got in to BH after almost getting kicked out several times, last to debut, and his hard work, thinking about how he could have felt back then, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was constantly worried about his spot in the group.
And of course it didn’t help that he was hearing so many comments about his weight by his own company AND ceo. The pre-debut period was really hard for him, he himself said he didn’t like to think about that time.
(In this picture, you can see Bang PD drawing on abs on JM’s body.)
This is NOT normal and very disturbing.
Unfortunately some people use the fact he shared his frustrations with us as a weapon to demean him and his talents on every chance they get. And most of those people are from his group own fandom.
There is a big problem with how JM is perceived by a big chunk of the fandom. Many would probably say he’s cute, a sexy mochi and a good dancer, which is fine, but there are also many people who twist who really is to fit their narrative and put him in a box they are comfortable with.
(And before you come at me - yes, I am aware he is not the only one who gets hate, thank you very much.)
“S*ut” “attention w*ore” “fat” “clingy” “ugly” “not a main dancer” "he is too much in the center”
These are just some of the disgusting words aimed at him by people who claim to be “Army” or “OT7”, (and of course antis). And when confronted with, those with the anti-JM agenda counter method is to answer with aggressiveness, i.e. with the famous: “shut up solo stan” “We don’t want you here” “Jimin would spit on you”.
And the sad thing is, I’m not just talking about akgaes either, this behavior comes from ‘regular’ armys as well.
Why is that? How can people hate him? Where does it all come from?
The first and most obvious reason people would think about - Jealousy.
People are jealous of JM. I mean, he has the stage presence of a god, pretty much charms the whole neighborhood and their grandmother, is doted on by his members, and overall a good human being.
But there’s something deeper than that, there has to be.
The brighter the light, the darker the shadow
JM is the kind of person that makes people see what they lack, his light is so bright that it makes the shadow turn darker. His goodness of heart is something you can’t find easily, and if you aren’t mature enough to see and work on your own flaws, you will try to blame others for the things you can’t do or be. That’s what they, the ones who with the anti-JM agenda, do. They project.
It’s about always blaming the victim. Now, some of you might not like the word victim, and I get it; no one wants to think the person they idolize or admire is a victim in any way. But this is not about victimizing. It’s about stopping this unfathomable blindness to injustice. You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge.
Seeing and acknowledging someone’s pain/experiences doesn’t mean you see them as a helpless victim, in fact - it’s through sympathizing with others that you can give someone a feeling that they are truly being seen. That they matter.
It’s also through sympathizing with yourself that one can grow from their past to truly forgive oneself for what happened, accepting who you are and put the past behind you. To truly set yourself free, you have to face your demons and forgive yourself.
So.. what’s the big issue?
The people who are anti JM find every single reason to hate him, no matter how small or insignificant, and when they can’t - they just make up those reasons.
Saying things like “he walks too slow so it’s his fault he’s getting mobbed at airports”, Liking tweets that explicitly make of fun of his eyes and then excusing it as a “joke” or “it’s not that deep”, and more. Some will go as far as misgendering him. He just can’t get a break, no matter what he does.
Calling him attention seeking just for wanting approval for his work or what he does, or for posting with another member’s dog for crying out loud or any of the other members just to get likes - is frankly quite irritating and absurd.
We know he’s a perfectionist, it’s what makes him such a hard worker, and while it has it’s downsides, no one stops to think about the actual REASON for him being the way he is. No one stops to ask what may have happened to him in the past to make him so critical of himself.
Him seeking approval and validation on his work does NOT mean he seeks attention. Those are different things. It is not different than an office worker checking in with their boss about their work and getting feedback to know they are doing their job correctly.
His upbringing is one of the reasons he’s such a nice person, from what we saw he has a good connection with his parents, they seem to be supportive and warm, it’s no surprise he’s such a good friend to everyone. He knows how to make people feel good, how to make them feel wanted and special, that is a such a good trait to have in life in general. Words of affirmation might be high up in his love language scale as well, as he knows both how to give praise and needs it as well, because that’s what he values.
Society’s standards of strength and weakness
I find that the reasons that sexist people have for their disdain towards femininity & feminine qualities in women or men also mirror and resemble JM’s case as well. Hear me out, I’m not saying it’s the same obviously, these are both different matters, however it’s similar in a way. The qualities he possesses are not celebrated, instead - he’s being mocked and ridiculed for having them. And it’s somehow even sadder because it comes mostly from woman, who are the majority in the BTS fandom.
Calling him a s*ut, constant body shaming, expressing disgust to him touching the other members claiming it to be “too much” when he is simply being his loving friendly self, making every little hug and gesture into something sexual to demean him and his character or vice versa, even being mad at him for the times where’s he’s not being touchy and minding his own business.
Just recently I saw people getting mad at him for gifting JK a bag, thinking JK looked annoyed and seemed like he didn’t want it, well, if that was the case then why did JK had a huge smile on his face when he talked about it on his vlive? Why did he carry the bag with him on the airport if he didn’t like it?
Some took it as far as to claim he is assaulting JK on stage when in reality it’s just fan service. That ALL the members participate in. I don’t see anyone saying the same thing when it’s TaeJin or another pair doing explicit fan service on stage.
The fact that people can be this cruel and watch with satisfaction as antis tear him apart with their words for no reason is simply disgusting. Stop trying to take every little good thing JM does and twist it into something that it’s not.
Whether it’s him uploading videos with other members and receiving backlash for it, whether it’s him embracing himself on stage and not holding back in his dancing and getting backlash for it because he “stands out too much”, whether it’s him having one moment of a voice crack and getting backlash for it while when other members do it it’s “aww so cute uwu”. It’s almost laughable how visible these double standards are if it weren’t so tragic.
Kindness, thoughtfulness, sympathy, sweet, gentle - those are traits usually linked to femininity, and the most absurd thing about it is that society sees these qualities as “weak” “passive” “needy” when in reality it’s the furthest from the truth.
JM’s character makes him lovable and approachable, making almost everyone he meets think good things about him. I don’t know about you but in my opinion this is the ultimate sign of strength. Leaving a good impression on people gets you very far in life, and in general it’s good for our soul to be kind, both to ourselves and others.
I believe JM has a good balance in his masculine and feminine energy. He can channel both of those energies when he wants to and it works for him. And that’s beautiful.
I do think there’s a big part of fandom who likes to put JM into these categories in their mind partly because of his feminine traits (to clarify: not only because of that, as he is after all - a man. But I think it’s a part of it).
Just look at how for a long time armys called Jin the “mom” of the group just because he took good care of his dongsaengs.
There’s no need to label kindness in the first place. The fandom has this tendency to discredit or ignore JM’s achievements and good deeds, while praising the others is no problem for them.
So why do all of these positive traits are being looked at as “less than? Why are the good people taken for granted? Is kindness not worth the praise?
I think a lot of it is rooted in how our culture views women and femininity in general. Women have been oppressed for the majority of history, and still are to this day. Our society devalues femininity in so many ways and in most cases we are not even aware of it when it’s happening.
Notice the language; when something or someone is being called “girly” - most of the time it’s used and taken as an insult, when it really shouldn’t be. What’s wrong with being girly? why is it considered something bad? Or for example, men who take on traditionally feminine roles and traits, are often looked at as not “real men” or “less than” by default.
Which only exposes how people see femininity and women in general. There’s a hidden (and sometimes not so hidden) hatred for femininity that runs as an under cord through everything. It’s everywhere. As if being gentle, kind, soft - because those are feminine traits, they are not worth the positive recognition and do not imply being “strong” like masculine traits are in society. Sexism still lives on, my friends.
Society does us a huge disservice by showing us that only traditionally masculine traits are worth the title of being “strong” when in fact, femininity can be just as strong.
Men can be caring, doting, nice, emotional and still be strong. In fact, those who are able to stay true to themselves especially in the face of society’s expectations and keep being who they are, are extremely admirable in my eyes.
Whenever I look at these types of comments meant to shame men for their femininity, I’m always puzzled by them because there’s always this idea that if you are feminine in any way, that you are immediately are using it as a device to ensnare men, as if femininity is something that is artificial and is used to trap men. I find it so weird, and of course I strongly disagree with this thought process, they are a solid proof to the kind of world we live in.
Have you noticed how when JM does fan service or dance moves that would be considered sexy, he gets called a s*ut, or a ho*?
Some might argue that it’s just a slang, just a figure of speech, but if you break it apart you’d notice that the others can be doing the same moves, (thrusting on stage etc) and yet never get called that. I think it’s because they (the ones who call JM names) see him differently to some degree. They unconsciously see him as competition, mirroring the jealousy you would often find between women.
All of this is unconscious behavior. All of this may sound like nonsense to some if they aren’t able to look inside themselves and examine their bias. Rarely would you see one of those people actually admit that they see him in that way. And if they do, they do it with the intention to degrade him at all costs. To be honest, I’ve given up on those people, because I doubt they will change, especially if the people who are watching it happen are silent about it.
JM suffered so much this year and before that, and yet when people want to show him love & support, they end up getting mobbed.
The way fandom behaves towards him, one would think they see him as a threat, or competition of some sort. For what? I’m not sure, maybe for the other members attention, maybe they feel that he’s stealing what they want for their own bias, maybe they feel as though JM is a obstacle to their ship, maybe they don’t even see him as part of BTS. Because they sure don’t act like it. (And those are the same ones who will tear you apart if you say JM should go solo, it’s like they don’t want him but they don’t want to set him free either, the hypocrisy. 🤦♀️)
No matter the reason, it doesn’t make sense and it’s terrible.
This wonderful person who loves his fans so much, and this is what he gets?
Treat others the way you want to be treated
So what CAN we do?
Be the change you want to see. Practice self awareness. It starts with you. If you love him and appreciate him, do so unapologetically.
Keep posting positive things about JM, about his dancing, personality, intelligence, just.. about who JM really is. Keep supporting him and show him the love he deserves.
Do NOT engage with the haters, they seek the drama & attention, don’t give them that and if you see hate comments, silently block and report and take a screenshot if needed. Be smarter when approaching the hate.
I said it before and I’ll say it again - defending JM does NOT make you a solo stan.
Also solo stan =/= akgae, there’s nothing wrong with being a solo stan either, so even though the fandom twisted the word, the meaning stays the same. Learn the difference between solo stan and akgae. Akgae are the people who bash other members in order to lift up their own bias. Solo stans simply focus on their fave and are indifferent to others.
What we really need to focus on is protecting the boys from those who wish to harm them. Because no one deserves this. Once again, in this post I’m talking about JM but obviously I’m against hate for all of them. Also as JM fans, I think it would be good if we were a more organized community, especially when it comes to supporting his solo work and dealing with hate, etc.
Have patience, take of yourself in the process, and have hope. We as humans are valuable no matter how we choose to express ourselves in public. As long as we keep supporting him, I’m sure our love will reach JM, some way or another.
And I will leave you here, I’m sorry this post came out way too long but I wanted to talk about this topic for a while now and I almost didn’t, out of fear people would not understand my point.
P.S: I would like to thank @thebangtankaijuu for encouraging me to post this and her much needed input. 🌸
Thank you for reading, 💛
Nana.
I’ve always known the whole thing but seeing it spelled out like this just hurts so bad. Thank you for posting (and reblogging) this. I hope it’ll reach more people and that they’ll understand what’s been happening for a long time.

Face of kpop, Korea’s IT boy, real time trending fairy, brand power king, BTS recruitment fairy, killing part idol and THIS IS ME LISTING THINGS OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD. If I were to properly reasearch what would happen to y’alls self proclaimed IT boys? Lmao. There’s only one IT boy, one standard that y’all want your faves to be. One boy who’s got the entire world pressed cause their faves can’t ever compare. That’s Park jimin for you. 🖤
All the ugly things y’all say on the internet have no effect whatsoever on the love and relevancy he has in the outside world. His country loves him, the world loves him, y’all and your faves can go be salty in a corner cause that’s precisely where y’all belong tbh.
#JIMIN: The competitions looking rather one sided; The only competition I have is with myself.

- Recognised by the Kmedia as “rookie idol bible” “king of killing parts” “mordern choreography maestro” “main dancer of dancers”.
Jimin majored in dance loves. He has an actual degree in dancing, y’all really think you can sit on your keyboards and try and come for Jimins skills as a dancer or question his position as a main dancer in BTS. Hell, he’s considered as one of the best dancers in the entire kpop industry, let alone BTS. This man had the shortest trainee period in the group and one of the shortest training period in the entire industry and STILL landed Main dancer and Lead vocalist when debuting, y’all know what that is? A fucking prodigy. Y’all can’t come for God’s favorite child, please don’t waste your energy coming for his dancing, everytime he gets as much as a 30 second solo stage he outsells everyone and their mums. The fact that his name shows up second when you google the best dancers in kpop, My Jimin stan ego is towering. He doesn’t need a solo debut or high production MVS and chreographies to make an impact, he steps on stage and it’s automatically legendary; that’s just what Jimin does; he slays.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk, now go stream Promise and always remember, Jimin as a dancer has more records than your faves have solo stages. much love xoxo.
hey, I'm pretty new to the natsuyuu fandom and I just read your answer to an ask about natsumes character (it gave me a lot of joy). i was wondering if you had any plans to do any fic to do with the fujiwaras decimating some of his old guardians/had any specific headcanons you'd be down to go into? because I'm here for it, I love when characters get vindication like that :) Anyway have a nice day and thanks for all your hard work!
Hi, thanks so much for your kind words!! I would love to write something like that for you, and after getting this earlier today I pseudo-started something with Shigeru and Natsume and a run-in with a nastier former guardian. However, I am a really really slow fic writer (metas are typically faster but this one warrants a fic even if it’s short) and I have various job-and-personal-obligation thingies going on this month so I’m sorry if it takes me a very long time to get it finished!
@sailingthesapphireblue, here you go!
Read here on ao3. And I’m always open to prompts! :)
Obvious cw for Natsume’s horrible childhood and all it entails–
Shigeru’s never been so naïve as to believe that he would never have a confrontation with some of his more…unsavory…relatives, about Takashi. In a way, he could’ve said he was looking forward to it, giving any of them a piece of his mind. Many pieces of his mind, in fact. For how they could treat any child in such a way, but for a child as gentle as Takashi, who so plainly aches for warmth, but is just plainly convinced he doesn’t quite deserve it.
Shigeru knows, objectively, that not every one of his relatives that took Takashi in was a complete scoundrel and monster, he does know that, but. Those homes weren’t homes, not for Takashi at least. Shigeru doesn’t need to know the specifics, it’s in the way Takashi carries himself; in the very set of his shoulders. Nobody’s ever wanted him, and nobody’s ever made it a secret that they didn’t.
And that? That makes Shigeru burn.
So beautifully written. I teared up at this. I’ve always been so grateful for the Fujiwaras, the friends and yokais Takashi has met and become close ever since he moved here for giving him the love and comfort he truly deserves. Thank you again for your beautiful words ❤️
