this reply in the comments tho

I thought this was the Aaron Reynolds who wrote the children's picture books "Creepy Carrots" and "Creepy Pair of Underwear," as well as "Nerdy Birdy" and "Dude!" but it turns out this is a different Aaron Reynolds who just published his first book, a "bird guide" called "Effin' Birds."

Small world, I guess?

This man seems honestly delightful

Hello, this is me. And I am a goddamn delight.

how… how did I not know abt this

Completely unrelated to whether or not you like their music, you have to respect this energy.

I mean, considering he’s on record as saying he’s had “gender identity issues” and “always identified a fair amount with the female gender” I think might be fair to retroactively reinstate him to that last ranking.

I’ve seen coppicing and pollarding before, but this takes it to a whole other level!

It’s also funny because I’ve been thinking of stooling some hazel nuts, and then nipping the side buds to create nice straight staves for making wattle fence.

what if I made my final project for a college class arguing my immortal’s cultural merit as a piece of digital folklore… haha just kidding… unless???

update: MY PROFESSOR GREENLIT IT

update 2: well i gave my presentation in full Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way cosplay

and enough people were intrigued by the greater My Immortal mythos that my professor asked me if I would be interested in doing a second, longer presentation about the authorship debate and the background Harry Potter fanfiction community drama

Dude yes

Please let us know when/if you’re putting this presentation online because I will be there with bells on

practical applications of “yeah, well, the calendar is a social construct too”:

if enough of us agree that today is, spiritually speaking, the 87th of February, it becomes the rest of the world’s problem to account for the existence of the Februarians

listen our mental calendars all look like Will Graham’s fucking clocks by now, why shouldn’t we start a splinter sect within the timekeeping fandom, everyone needs to have hobbies In These Trying Times and maybe we could give some antivaxxers a better hill to die on

This sounds like calendrical heresy to me.

i agree re calendrical heresy, but seriously tho, op is incredibly and horribly right about “it becomes the rest of the world’s problem”

if you doubt, or alternatively, should you wish to appreciate the depth of the horror, observe:

having scratched the surface of programming-with-timezones and backed away in horror: that entire video is incredibly and horribly right, and tbh the absolute, arbitrary fuckery of Time As A Social Construct is downright inspirational if you pivot a few degrees sideways and apply it to Gender As A Social Construct

like, tactical inspiration in terms of what can be accomplished through small, obstinate, local modifications to said social construct

but also the general attitude that the gender of the day can, in fact, be “That Sounds Like A You Problem,” and humanity is already pretty fucking used to dealing with this when it comes to other things we’ve collectively scaffolded atop the inconsistent mess that nature foisted upon us
