cultural appropriation 101

Seriously guys, wearing a war bonnet without having to suffer blood, sweat and tears for it is so disrespectful to all the servicemen who have sacrificed their lives for this country.

Finally someone stands up for my people and puts it into words that i couldn’t. Thank you!!!

Tony Stark is worth around 12billion; Batman 10billion. Black Panther almost 100 TRILLION. Black Panther can buy Wayne Enterprises and Stark Industries at the same Going Out of Business sale. Tony’s tech has always been decades behind Wakanda technology. That’s why Black Panther’s costume is sleek and form-fitting yet still bulletproof while Tony still has to bulk up his with extra metal. Batman doesn’t even have a bulletproof costume unless it looks like Ironman’s. Plus Wakanda’s current technology was invented by a female and not just any female a Princess. Batman has Fox invent his technology Tony does the best he can while yelling at Pepper. AND Wakandans found the cure for many different types of cancer. They only reason they don’t share with the world is because white greed and insurance companies.

Panther & Co.™ has enough wealth and power to hide a goddamn country from the entire rest of the world. Tony has a gold-plated bow tie and a few fancy bottles of wine.

My husband saw this as I was scrolling down and said “Dude, Black Panther finds Tony Stark’s net worth in his couch cushions when he’s looking for the TV remote. And he’s probably judging the Iron Man suit like ‘oh hey I had one of those I built when I was 6.’”

And I mean, he’s not wrong.

I need to clarify, I love Black Panther, he's been one of my favorites for years. Also hands down he beats Batman every time in all regards unless he somehow reveals his weakness to vibranium being overloaded (causes it to explode, T'challa will live, but lose his suit.) I just need to make a quick note here. Tony Stark's Iron Man suit, all of the hundreds of them, are flight suits loaded with weapons, and necessary tech for maintaining his safety and ability to use the suit. The Black Panther Habit is only armor. It only protects the wearer and holsters a few handheld weapons. It has no flight capabilities, it has no life support, no on board ai, it doesn't enhance the wearer in any way aside from protection. On top of that, look at the Endosym Iron Man armor, you want to talk about sleek? The only "bulk" on it are the thrusters, and it is a thinner, lighter, and more protective suit than the Panther Habit. In terms of a money fight. Stark wins. Wakanda would need to start selling their vibranium in order to actually have the most money, but they have had a hardline policy on that which has been to hoard it for themselves which has led to the rest of the world to seek alternative metals such as adamantium, uru, etc. Meaning vibranium's asking price, and the price it will sell for are far apart from each other. In fact, Iron man has suits made from each of the three metals I've already listed. That said in a 1v1 fight I think it would be pretty fairly matched.

Why would anyone want to consume it!?

I teach my 7th graders about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide.

I bring in a graduated cylinder of it and we talk about how it’s used in nuclear power plants and gmo crops. How inhaling even the small amount I’m holding can lead to suffocation or even death. It’s found in vaccines and cancer cells, but also in infant formula and pet food. It is a huge component of acid rain, can cause severe burns, and has been found in places that were thought to be the most pristine and unpolluted locations on earth.

We talk about how there are little to no regulations on this chemical. No bans, no warning labels, and most manufacturers don’t even have to disclose their use of it in their products.

My students are outraged. We talk about what we can do. Create posters and flyers to spread awareness. Contact our senators with petitions to ban DHMO. Spread this information all over social media.

Then I explain that the real problem with dihydrogen monoxide is that….when I am thirsty…there is just nothing else as refreshing, and then I watch their looks of absolute shock and horror as I drink the entire vial down.

I. Fucking. Love. This.

This is how misinformation works. How propaganda works. How manipulation works.

may our education be stronger than fake news

Amen.

To those who don’t get it:

“Dihydrogen monoxide” is the chemical name for water, AKA H2O.

another important element of understanding the joke is understanding how pH levels work

yup.  that’s a higher number alright.

“Everyone who has ever touched or consumed this chemical has died”

“everyone who has ever touched or consumed this chemical has died”

Canada: Has had only 3 mass shootings in the last 10 years thanks to gun control.

The UK: Has had 1 mass shooting since gun control was introduced in 1997.

Japan: Has never had a mass shooting, thanks to gun control.

Australia: Zero mass shootings since the port arthur massacre in 1996.

The US: Had 383 mass shootings in 2016 and 273 so far in 2017.

So take your “gun control doesn’t work!” bullshit and stick it up your ass.

Mass shooting” in this context is defined, using the FBI’s definition, as a shooting where 4 or more people are killed, not including the gunman.

A Tennessee sheriff is being sued for using excessive force after he was recorded boasting he had told officers to shoot a man rather than risk damaging police cars by ramming him off the road.

“They said ‘we’re ramming him,’” Sheriff Oddie Shoupe of White County said on tape in the aftermath of the killing of suspect Michael Dial. “I said, ‘Don’t ram him, shoot him.’ Fuck that shit. Ain’t gonna tear up my cars.”

Shoupe arrived on the scene shortly after police had shot Dial at the conclusion of a low-speed chase, clearly upset he had missed the excitement.

“I love this shit,” Shoupe said, apparently unaware that his comments were being picked up by another deputy’s body-worn camera. “God, I tell you what, I thrive on it.

“If they don’t think I’ll give the damn order to kill that motherfucker they’re full of shit,” he added, laughing. “Take him out. I’m here on the damn wrong end of the county,” he said.

Shoupe’s comments have prompted a federal lawsuit from Dial’s widow, Robyn Dial, alleging the use of excessive force against her late husband, who was unarmed.

“It was not only inappropriate but also unconscionable for Defendant Shoupe to give the order to use deadly force,” the filing states, calling his decision proof of a “malicious and sadistic mindset”. The suit also names the county, the city of Sparta and the two officers who fired their weapons.

“The comments as seen on the video are extremely disturbing. I’m not sure how anybody can thrive on the taking of a life, let alone somebody in law enforcement,” Dial’s attorney David Weissman told the Guardian.

Police had initially attempted to pull Dial over in April last year for driving on a suspended licence. He drove away, but the fact that he was driving a 40-odd-year-old pickup truck with a fully loaded trailer severely restricted his speed.

DeKalb County deputies, who began the pursuit before White County deputies took over, told investigators it was “more like a funeral procession” than a highway chase, with speeds topping out around 50mph.

Deputies tried using a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuverto slow Dial’s car, a common police tactic involving a police car nudging another vehicle to turn it sideways.

But Shoupe radioed officers to tell them to stop attempting to do that, instead ordering them to shoot the driver.

When a deputy had successfully nudged Dial off the road, Reserve Deputy Adam West, who was in pursuit in his own personal vehicle, fired three shots as the vehicle went down into a ditch. Dial died of a gunshot wound to the head.

In June, the county district attorney declared the shooting justified.

Dial told Tennessee’s News Channel 5 that she believed her husband had tried to drive away from the police because he was scared, and said she could not make sense of the order to shoot. “I feel with every part of me that’s exactly what they wanted to do was kill him.”

The sheriff’s office declined to comment to the Guardian.
