Possible insight into Shadwell’s character. The novel The Witchfinder General came out in 1966 - one year before Crowley meets him.

It was adapted into a movie in 1968. And look what is playing in the background at the cafe when they meet again.

Fittingly, a scene where the General is being paid.

And what the hell, Crowley got the Infernal fucking Times right up in front of Shadwell. Who is the bigger idiot???
TL:DR - Shadwell read the Witchfinder General in jail and decided to hardcore cosplay for the rest of his life.

This is how you’re supposed to do it. (Even if the “concept” to your concept album disappears after the first track.) Lee Dorrian is in peak go-hard-or-go-home mode on this gem and there isn’t a single wink-wink or nudge-nudge throughout the entire EP. Yes, we will break the riffage for New Wave keyboards and saxophone solos! Yes, we will have Break Like The Wind era Spinal tap lyrics! The whole thing just, um, ROCKS.
For starters, one of my favourite bands: Witchfinder General. They weren’t very popular back in the 80s, but it’s known that they were pioneers, along with Pagan Altar, in the Doom Metal genre. You’ll notice a massive influence of Black Sabbath, as well… actually, I’ve never heard another band that sounded so similarly. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy it so much. Anyway, here you can learn more about the band. Cheers!
