I never expected a website to be more broken than tumblr, but here we are.
Want to +Fav in anything other than the default folder?
Old Deviantart: Click and drag to the tray that drops down.
Or click the arrow next to the Favorite button.
Two clicks max.
DA Eclipse: Click Add To Favourites.
Click Change Collection.
Click the desired Favs Folder.
Deselect the default Favs Folder.
They’ve also removed the customized Navigation bar. So if I want to go to my Favourtes, I either have to do it from the address bar, or go to my page and then click on Favs. Instead of just…clicking a link.
Well, you can go to your Favs page and move it there, right? Nope. You can only add favs to a new collection, not to an existing one.
Oh, and if I want to Select All on my DevWatch page? I have to select a submission, wait for the
Select All option to appear, and then click Select All.
Well, you can just not use DA Eclipse, right?
Haha, no. It’s mandatory at the end of May.
I know the site’s been losing users to Tumblr, Instagram, and Artstation, but this is shooting themselves in the foot. Eclipse is less functional and less usable than the old site, and not ready for prime time. Maybe they’re trying to optimize it for Mobile, idk.
And I’m not just saying this because shedloads of other people are pissed off.
So, I’m taking a web design class and for our final we had to make a fully functioning website. after a month of just 0 ideas, my mom’s like “just make it about something you like right now” and then uhh…. and then I let my obsession take over. long story short, there is now a Ducktales 2017 site. (other than the Fandom and wiki sites of course)
If you visit this site please don’t mess with anything. I need this for my grade.
Zalgo text still works when the extra combining characters are, instead of being inserted into the string, added using the css ::after selector. You will have to give each individual letter its own <span> tag for this, as there is currently no ::nth-letter selector.
Note that this expects every letter to be wrapped in a <span> tag, currently expects no other<span> tags, and gets more regular after a while. I am wondering if I can address that last issue by being clever.
While this is more search-friendly and plausibly more screen-reader and terminal-browser friendly than normal Zalgo text, it also may not have any screen reader representation, when plausibly it ought to be (deactivate-ably) noisy on a screen reader. (Well, it possibly ought to sound like multiple buzzing voices trying to drown out the content text, but that sounds harder. Except the users might not like it? But it’s supposed to be user-unfriendly?)
I still want to figure out a better CSS version of Zalgoish effects, maybe.
I told them 12k was my estimate so then I received this email
Kinda weird the person you got doing your logos doesn’t have things like cash app or paypal but okay find. I asked them can they pay me via Zells, cash app, or PayPal.
I received this text message
Now quickbooks is legit but you do have to pay to use it after the free trial.
Now how do I know this is a scam, well I got this kind of email before. Different name and website idea. Previous was hair supplies this on is office. Everything is the same expect for few changes being the site, name, and pricing.
Now before I didn’t know but had person fill out a contract which they did sign. However literally for two months using quickbooks and then saying they sent the funds followed by frequent texts saying “ did you get it yet?” I called quickbooks only find out the money sent was cut off due to fraud suspension. And after telling the “client” the quickly told me to switch to Zells but sent a link where I had to yet again pay for the surface in order to use.
So yeah if you get emails/texts like this it’s a scam. Lucky nothing on my end was effected. But had money gone through I could’ve been in some trouble if I even did receive the money.
If you have wix site this how they found me because original email was sent from my wix website.
Be aware folks that do web design or any kind of freelance work
Hello everyone. I come to you in a dire time of need.
As you all know, I’ve been struggling with medical issues and I have been in and out of the hospital, as well as numerous procedures and doctors visits in order to understand what is wrong with me.
Currently there is no diagnosis.
As problems pile on, I have just recieved word that I have an overdue balance of $360 to my school, which I cannot pay.
I am currently unemployed due to the excruciating pain I am in, and the endless fatigue that consumes me. I live with my mother, as we both live in financial based housing (Section 8 housing or HUD), and she only works part time.
I have contacted my school in hopes of a plan, especially since I am very close to finishing my degree (I am anticipated to graduate in December), however they have been no help.
I am calling to all of you to please hire me for commissions, whether you need icons made or anything, I’m in dire need to crank out as many commissions as possible.
I also offer graphic design and web design options (I’m a certified web designer and I worked as a marketing manager for 2 years in high school), if you would be interested in those, please DM me.
I will also take any donations, however, I’d prefer to work to earn your money.
It is weird how so rarely a website with update and I will feel like “ah yes, this new version is actually better“. It is almost as if web development is either exposed to bad incentives or actually bad at their job as a field
i think its because a lot of people on this site dont recognize how much time and effort goes into making themes. people will copy the code, spend maybe 30 mins max customizing and that its. people just dont realize that theme making is an art and a time consuming one at that and they think it should be free. btw i wasnt trying to be mean or condescending with my last ask :( but i really think its the money sign in general? not the link or how much money? people see the sign and just skip it
I get that a lot of people don’t see the effort behind it because they, as you said, usually only spend a few minutes setting up and customizing one.
However, these people expect from us that we
provide themes and pages,
that these themes and pages work faultlessly,
that they can get support immediately and at any time,
provide all of this for free.
And the fact that people ignore our creations just because of a currency sign is just disrespectful.
Imagine going to a charity store that gives most things away for free, and then starting a scene just because there is an item with a price tag on it. This is how people on this site act.
There are theme makers who literally get tons of asks demanding to know why they wouldn’t even sell things – as if we don’t have expenses we need to cover.
Honestly, I also feel that this a problem that’s kind of specific to tumblr. If you offer products on Instagram or YouTube, people (esp. your followers) are willing to pay for your stuff.
Here, you can have a gigantic follower base and people still look the other way when you ask for a symbolic Euro or Dollar for an intricate theme.
Often there are also people complaining about commission prices here. A commission is a thing just for you, for nobody else, why would you expect it to be free?
If I check the salary for web designers, then according to gehaltsvergleich, 50% of the web designers here in Germany get between €1.935 and €3.945 per month (40h/week). If we take the middle between that, then that’s rougly a wage of €18/h.
And indeed offers an even better insight to the situation of web designers in the US:
Just consider what salaries and benefits like these mean for a web design you order from a company. You wouldn’t get a theme there for free.
Meanwhile, you can’t even get donations here from people for what you do. Out of the three donations I have gotten so far, two have been fellow theme makers and one has been a user for whom I did a one-on-one theme fix with.
If you can’t give us money, then at least give us exposure and respect. A lot of time we don’t even get that.
Hi, I haven’t sent one of these emails in a while. If you no longer want to receive these, simply click the unsubscribe link at the bottom. I will be back to the regular monthly emails going forward. :) — Craig
