On the one hand, I totally understand that human-machine interfaces that require broad gestures or full-body motions are inconvenient in close quarters and suffer from significant and likely intractable accessibility problems.
On the other hand, if your sparkly holographic UI doesn’t at least give you the option to posture and gesticulate like a fucking warlock, what’s even the point?
Just a little update so you guys know I’m still working on build mode. It will be finished soon, which then means I’ll start work on buy mode. They are pretty similar so expect this to be released for maybe end of this month, if not then next year, mid January.
As we’re living through The Plague Times, a number of topics have really jumped the writing queue for your humble Bitches. And thanks to the massive wave of job losses, one of the more urgent subjects is, by necessity, unemployment insurance.
As it happens, I’m currently a bit of an expert on unemployment insurance. I’m not just a spokesperson… I’m a member! After losing my job this spring, I…
the new facebook layout on desktop is just like….so bad??
why so much empty space between the newsfeed and both side panels. like what do you need all that space for? is it not jarring to have two empty chasms dividing three different panels of information? your eyes get a serious work out traversing this space.
each post is Too Big. seriously; posts that include pictures (almost every post) gets cut off top or bottom, or BOTH because of this formatting. (i even unlocked my task bar for more vertical space) I feel like they made the post box size larger just to try eat up as much of the spacing on each side.
like I thought we had the simple solution of keep all the panels of information together with the spaces on the edges. tumblr, twitter, insta, all share this and it looks clean!
3. if you snap facebook into a half screen the formatting looks…better. the size of posts is reduced and it keeps the info panel from the right side, but hides the info panel from the left side.
but like where did the left side panel go? oh it disappeared into a hamburger menu (actual technical term, yes) on the top… right… of center? in one of the two empty voids they could stick it in. even though by conventional standards hamburger menus go into the VERY left or right of the header. also not very intuitive to switch which side the panel is accessed on.
oh yeah but what happens when you slap that burger?
THIS bullshit. you get a whole ass like overlay, not just a drop down (which probably would have been adequate) i guess its still all justified left (consistency, yay?), but like why is the number of items in a category ALL the way on the right?
redeeming quality from this update is darkmode, ffs finally.
facebook is pushed a really poorly designed update (imo) that breaks modern social media layout conventions in a couple truly bizarre ways.
I never thought I’d say this, but I genuinely might be done if this isn’t fixed. If I can’t shut my browser and re-open it with the same tabs in the same places, then I’ve just lost literal YEARS worth of work. I’m low-key panicking right now.
