My Ass Almost Got Scammed
Alright, so story time! I just recently got Nintedo Online, which allows me to vist other people’s islands and stuff like that in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Like most players, I decided to get into trading stuff (mostly DIYs) for Bells and NMT. I’ve been doing that for around a week and half and Nookazon and things had been going really well. People were nice, fair and I was getting the things that I needed to make my island and house better!
But today, like a half hour or so ago I wanted to sell my Astronaut Suit to get some extra NMT. I made a listing so people can offer as much as they wanted (I really wasn’t expecting more than 20). Then, lord behold, I got an offer, less than 5 minutes after I put up my listing. Some guy named “Goobiangoobo” no I am not kidding that was the actual name.
The moment I looked at his offer though, I knew something was off, he had no previous reviews and was offering 200 NMT for the suit. I for sure wasn’t about to let this guy on my island because I didn’t entirely trust them. But I went along and asked for their Dodo code, I got it after a few minutes and I was on my way. I also messaged them before I left because I was in the middle of a trade at the time and they just seemed off. Most players that I’ve traded with in the past are super nice, and chill and all that good stuff, but they were just not. I chopped it off to nothing though because not everyone is the world is all happy and cheerful.
So, now I’m on my way to their island and the a second read flag showed up, the island was bare. Like, bare as in just starting off in the game kind of empty so I’m thinking about how a person who’s clearly just starting has 200 NMT. But still, maybe they just were ranking up the Nook Miles or something.
I get off the plane and leave, and the moment I exist the airport, their not there. Normally, when I trade, the person is either nearby and saying ‘Hi’ or right outside the airport. But, they were no where in sight, then another person comes to the island, this time a girl who’s decked out in all this fancy stuff from the game who looks like the type of person who would have 200 NMT. She went by Star, so she comes out, I say Hi to her, she says Hi to me and the guy finally shows up. He just sorta stood there, blocking us from getting on the actual island and they’re like “I didn’t expect both of you at ones”. Star and I both said ‘Lol’ before another person came onto the island.
Now they’re 3 of us, who were here to trade and the one person we’re supposed to trade with. Alright, I’ve had this type of stuff happen before, it’s no big deal. I ask who he wants to trade with first and he says with Star, so I’m waiting there with the other girl who’s here to trade. We’re just chilling and waiting, while the guy takes Start out of our sight and to like the other side of the island. Bit sketchy but whatever, I’m about to get 200 NMT so I wasn’t about to judge. Then I start to see the conversation that the two of them are having, and like they guy took what he traded with Star and wasn’t giving what he owed. So like, now I’m starting to realize something isn’t right, and then, I’m kicked off the island.
All I see is, “It’s time to head home” pop up on the screen and then the next thing I know I’m on a flight back to my island.
I was so confused for the longest time, and then I just sorta peiced together that I almost got scammed out of my stuff. I feel bad for Star, but I’m also glad that I didn’t loss the suit without anything in return because they stuff isn’t easy to make. Star fragments aren’t exactly easy to come by.
But, worst of all, I tried looking into the guy on Nookazon and his account was gone. So there’s no finding or reporting him now and I didn’t think to take screen shots or anything.
But moral of the story, please be careful when trading, make sure to look at the account that your planning on trading with to see if it has any trace of activety. And if an offer seems to good to be true, it propably is and it’s best to just play it safe instead of being greedy.
Stay safe everyone!
