Fandom’s really showing it’s full ass to Gaiman. And by that, I mean infighting portions of the LGBT community, particularly those that hold resistance to nonbinary gender identities (whether that’s agender, other enby, and probably adjacent problematic behavior to trans people.)
Y’all STOP. NO, he’s NOT going to say they’re gay men because THEY ARE NOT MEN. He has repeated this over and over. He’s happy to repeat that it is in fact a love story but you don’t get to BULLY him into changing them from agender/enby to gender and sex conformative things just because it’s the title YOU want him to say.
That doesn’t make him a homophobe. That makes you an enbyphobe. This isn’t hard.
And now as I look at this I AGAIN look at my other fandoms where I talk about the LGBT community running around their goalposts even without the help of antis and am left to wonder just how much of our fandom dialogue is a wash of various infighting phobias of the LGBT comm frequently hidden behind “But I’m LGBT too” like we don’t know about TERFs and Truscum and everything else. But it rarely gets breached that far in fandom discussion to hold it up to the light under a magnifying glass, I guess.
This shit LITERALLY made Neil Gaiman say he felt he failed as an author. STOP. And most of all apply similar thoughtfulness to not SILENTLY inspire that line of thought in other queer creators just because they aren’t performing jesters to exactly what YOU want.
