So lately, in the wake of both operation Grim Sky and operation Wind Bastion, me and my friends on my discord are having beef with Ubisoft about how cosmetic-based the game has become after the first few years. We are simply unsatisfied with how free the operators are designed, and would like them to be more tactical. Now, before you begin hating me for this, just have in mind, that these are my own opinions and you of course can have your own.
Number 1: Nomad
The new female GIGR operator, Nomad (Sanaa El Maktoub) Is the attacking operator from the Morrocan special forces Groupe d’Interventione de la Gendarmerie Royale. Her original design consisted of a windbreaker, a harness and a sort of scarf headdress. Now i have given her a light armored vest, dark shirt and pants used by the GIGR urban task force.
I have also given her a matching kevlar helmet to shield her from potential head trauma or injury that could occur within a siege situation. Instead of having cloth and hair in her face when the wind might feel to blow in her head (I have the same pet peeve with Hibana and her Tactical hoodie) I also gave her a balaclava to keep her identity anonymous for potential compromisation. No one in their right mind would just give away their identity away like that whilst working in a highly secretive task force.
Last (but not least) I gave her a rappeling harness, for obvious reasons, the actual magazine that fits her AK-74m instead of the wrong one, Ubi. Some people may think that this design took away her character and that she doesn’t look female anymore. But in the GIGR you’re not supposed to look female or male, you’re supposed to look proffesional.
Number two: Maverick
Ohhh boy, I have a lot of problems with Ubisoft’s Maverick. First of all his uniform. For instance, his poncho would be a huge problem hostage situations and storm situation (his job, after all) it could become entangled in every kind of way. The first thing I did was to remove the excessive cloth for his own safety. After that i gave him a more modern-day tactical American uniform (Delta Force doesn’t have an uniform so i made one inspired from the USMC)
My second problem is that damn headgear again. Of course we all know that he had been a specific amount of time in Afghanistan and all that i assume is that he wants to represent that country, and I’m all about that, but in a professional setting, it would not be practical. The Pakol as it is called (also known in my inner cirkle as mushroom) is just a piece of cloth and has no head protection whatsoever. I gave him a kevlar helmet and some earmuffs for ear protection against that high-calibre DMR he has.
And last: his freaking blowtorch. A blowtorch in that measure is not possible, but what is possible is a welding pipe, that can cut through metal. And having a military-grade welding pipe means that you should at least cover your eyes (cover your face for the most protection) or you will suffer severe eye damage from the light.
Do you do the character asks? If so, either the easy one Rook or the difficult, rarely used one Nomad? I kinda like having challenges, let's do it again sometime, Kiki!!
It’s queued for one of these days, but I’ll do this one I guess 😉 Damn, the draft ate part of the text! I said, I’ll pick Nomad since I so rarely get asks about her.
things I like about them
I love Nomad and how carefree and chipper she sounds. She seems such a bright and adventurous spirit, not letting obstacles get in her way or sour her mood for long.
I’m not sure I have one for her yet. I mean, I like Nomad/Maverick, but it’s not a ship I’m wild about either, although it’s cute. I kinda see some potential in Kal/Nomad, but I barely had time to ponder over it.
Rainbow’s resident art club: Glaz and Ela. Nomad does sketches in her travel book and draws maps herself, I bet they could become artistic buddies. I also like the idea of Amaru & Nomad, the adventuring duo!
Kaid wants her to succeed him as the Commander of the Fortress, but as much as she appreciated the work the Fortress does, she doesn’t want to get tied to one place like that. Her freedom is the most important thing in the world to her. It’s also one of the reason she left behind a privileged lifestyle to enlist in the military (she wanted to escape the shackles of social expectations and marriage).
For the OTP ask can you do Nomad x alibi (kind of a strange ship I know) with 2, 5, 6, 10, 13, and 20?
Strange ship, you say? Let’s call it a rare pair. Interesting? Definitely!
who says “I love you” more?
Nomad, she seems to be more carefree, while Alibi puts more weight behind her words and doesn’t like using the L-word lightly. But when she uses it, there’s always a certainty and intensity behind it that steal’s Nomad’s breath away.
who does more of the housework?
Neither strikes me as overly concerned with housework. As long as the house is decent enough and not a total mess, they’re okay with it, and will invest their time in doing other things.
who forgets their anniversary?
Nomad, she’s not good at remembering this kind of stuff in time. Like she will remember, but usually a few days earlier (and then forget on the proper date), or a day or two later. Alibi finds it amusing and maybe a little bit endearing.
10) who usually makes dinner?
Both, they prefer to cook together and experiment, mixing recipes from different countries and finding what turns out good and what’s not to be repeated. Alibi still favors Italian cuisine over others, but she has to admit Nomad has some very good ideas.
who gives the most compliments?
Alibi, she’s a flatterer, but the thing is she means every single one of them.
who is more ‘physically passionate’? (hugs, kisses, or maybe more…)
Alibi, she is a passionate woman and like to back up her words with actions to show how serious she is about their relationship. Not to mention she greatly enjoys any and all physical contact between them, and so does Nomad 😄
So after thinking and thinking about that title, all my mind could conjure up was this: a sort of recollection of Nomad’s travels and adventures, the people she met, the hardships she went through, her plans for the future, and how she longs for adventures and new places to visit, travelling around the world like a dandelion caught in the wind, but ultimately will always come back to her friends and found family in Rainbow.
