“Why do I have to go to Paris?” Jason complained. “You could just leave me here to take care of Gotham.”
Bruce sighed, unimpressed. “I’d rather not come back to see Gotham in flames. We also need to do damage control. Millions of people in the Agreste band are finding them in a tough position after Hawkmoth’s reveal.”
“And how does that involve me?”
“Well,” Bruce shrugged, “If you don’t want to see Marinette again, I guess it’s fine.”
Jason stilled, shocked at what he just revealed. He watched as Bruce moved towards the door.
“Wait!” He yelled. “I just realized I had some, err, important stuff to do!”
Bruce hid a smirk at the reaction he received. “Pack up. We’re leaving today.” The only thing indicating Jason’s excitement was the slight skip in his steps.
“She’s famous now.” Bruce said from his seat on the plane, making Jason look up from the letters he’d been re-reading. “She finally reached her goal of being a fashion designer.”
“It was inevitable.” Jason said with a soft smile.
“I know right!” Dick screamed. “I can’t wait to see her again! I hope we’ll get to eat more of her pastries!”
Jason’s right eye twitched. “Did we have to bring him with us?” He looked to the man in question after not receiving an answer, only to see him asleep. “Well, fuck you too, Bruce.” He scowled as Dick continued to rant about Marinette.
“Wait.” Dick said at the end of his rant. “How are you going to explain your disappearance ?” Finally, something worth answering.
“I’ll just tell her the truth.” He shrugged. “She already knew I was a vigilante, so why not just tell her everything?”
“Ok.” Dick nodded. “But what about her parents?” Jason almost banged his head against the window. He couldn’t believe he had forgotten about that.
“I, uh, was working for the FBI?”
Dick stared at him. “You’re screwed.”
He couldn’t agree more.
“Welcome to Tom and Sabine- Oh my croissants! Is that really you Jason?” Tom screeched. “We haven’t seen you in person since that Wayne gala!”
Jason chuckled as he was enveloped in a bear hug.
“Jason?” A voice asked and he was let go to see Sabine, looking the same as she always had. “This is such a pleasant surprise! We thought you were dead! Oh, Marinette is going to blow up from joy!”
Ah, the question he had been wanting to avoid. Shit.
“I, uh, I was working under the FBI.”
The parents shared an disbelieving stare but decided not to push.
“You can stay in Marinette’s room while we keep working. Sabine will show you where it is. ” Tom explained.
“She should be back soon.” Added Sabine. “Something about a meeting at the Agreste Brand.” Jason nodded in understanding as he followed the tiny mom upstairs.
“Marinette really needs to clean her room.” Sabine sighs. “Just make yourself at home. I’ll bring up some pastries and we can catch up later.”
“Thanks, Sabine!” She smiled at him before leaving. Man, did he miss this family.
He let himself explore the room, soon taking a liking to her comfortable bed. He only stopped bouncing on it when he saw a pink polka dotted box come into sight. He looked around to make sure no one was around before starting on picking its lock.
He knew he shouldn’t be doing this but, how could one deny their curiosity its needs?
When he opened it, he had already expected a diary but what he didn’t expect? The numerous letters addressed to him. All written during the time he was gone.
The hatch opened and a gorgeous blue-haired entered. She stopped when she laid her eyes on Jason.
“Jason?” She said after a minute, her voice only above a whisper. “Jason!” She yelled out with tears streaming freely as she started walking to him. He gave a wobbly smile as he too started walking towards her. “Jason! ” Her tone shifted to one of anger and he had half a mind to start backing.
“PLEASE DON’T KILL ME.”
She grabbed him by his shirt. “How dare you fucking come here like this and never even contact me once before?!”
He gulped, not daring to speak against her.
“How dare you not even tell me you came back from the dead and become an anti-hero?”
“Did you have Dick spy for you?”
“That doesn’t matter! ” She said, furiously. “I just-” Her face softened and she pulled him into a bone-crushing hug. “Promise me you’ll never leave me like that again?”
He looked at her electric blue eyes. So full of sincerity and love and everything else. “Only if you promise to do the same.” He narrowed his eyes at her. “Don’t think I don’t know about this Ladybug business.”
“Oh, hush you.” She scolded lightly. “You do much more dangerous stuff.”
She didn’t stop their embrace and he liked it that way.
