do not feel guilty about not being able to be involved in every issue happening in our world. you cannot dedicate 100% of your energy to every single issue. your personal physical and mental health is more important.
learn to balance being involved and taking a breather or you WILL burn out. we all cannot be ON 24/7. you are not a bad person for not being involved always. you can be aware and learn, but change is both quick and slow. we will be learning and changing through our whole lives. it’s okay to approach it at your own pace.
walk in protests AND walk on hikes. read commentaries and stories and anthologies and hear of struggles and pain AND read mysteries and action packed thrillers and cheesy romance novels. watch the heartbreaking documentaries and face dark subjects AND watch comedy shows and horror films and whatever you have saved on Netflix.
turn off the constant mind numbing sensationalized media and news. get off Twitter and tumblr and tiktok. just take a moment to breathe, to write down your thoughts, and to think and make a game plan for the future. what issue is really, really important to you? what do you want to learn more about?
we will learn until our very last breaths. this is a marathon, not a sprint. do not feel guilty for not being involved 24/7. you cannot fix the world when you’re running on empty.
anyways some of y’all don’t know what toxicity really is and don’t know when to step away from fights that you have no place to be involved in.
i’m glad that gen z is getting involved in politics but y’all need to understand that you cannot be in every single fight. you cannot place all of your energy into every single social cause. you need to research things before taking it at face value and starting witch hunts.
history is not as cut and dry as you think. if one person tells you a “fact”, you NEED TO RESEARCH IT. there could be no historical background to their “fact” other than some vague one word statement.
y’know what’s toxic? trying to be the smartest, most “woke” person in the room. you’re not. I’m not. stop trying to dictate everyone else’s behavior before you pause, research, and check your own problematic behavior.
and if you come after me on anon, you are literally proving my point. think about your actions. learn your facts. then go change the world.
hm i think there’s a difference between having a designated space to unwind from helping with an issue and ignoring an issue and i feel like a lot of posts going around right now are conflating the two. idk i see stuff like ‘if you’re not reblogging posts about current issues no matter what kind of blog you have you’re part of the problem’ and it seems strange to conflate someone’s presence on a single blog on a single social media site with everything they’re doing in the rest of their life.
absolutely, people should not be ignoring the current culture of police brutality and white supremacist violence. people should be using their platforms to do what they can to help others. whether that’s via social media, providing help to people locally if they’re able, or both. ignoring these issues and pretending as though they don’t exist is completely unacceptable, especially when people of colour and especially black people don’t have that luxury. silence is complicity, 100%.
and also like,, people need spaces to take breaks from active activist operations, not only for their own mental health but so that they’ll be less likely to burn out and can be better and more helpful activists. and the design of social media sites where there’s no separation between activism and entertainment, so you’re simultaneously bombarded 24/7 with cute animal videos and horrific videos of warcrimes, isn’t conducive to good mental health or good activism. it leaves people without appropriate tools to process their emotions and experiences and makes burnout more likely. so creating spaces like specific tumblr blogs that exist for taking breaks and recouping is necessary for that kind of processing, and as long as you are also doing what you can to help and not using self-care as an excuse to simply ignore these issues altogether, creates healthier activists and thus better and more sustainable activism.
having spaces to unwind and rest is important, whether that’s by unplugging or having designated social media space to recoup, but that’s not synonymous with ignoring an issue or pretending it doesn’t exist. activism is necessary.
Now that the animation has been announced, I’ve seen a collective amount of people shaming others for liking Killing Stalking and so I wanted to share, although it should be fairly obvious, that people only like KS for it’s elicit fear.
There is not one sane person who views Killing Stalking as a same-sex love story, those people that do clearly need to re-evaluate their idea of love and as such shouldn’t be considered viable fans of KS.
Anyways here are the key points to remember before you shame people for liking KS:
Killing Stalking isn’t a yaoi, it’s a horror.
The author has never romanticised the relationship between Sangwoo and Bum, certain fans did.
People don’t like KS because they ‘ship’ Sangwoo and Bum, they like KS because it depicts the complexities of both stalker and killer.
It is a story that highlights the darkest depths of the human psyche, it is not a story that tells the tale of two lovers.
People who like Bum aren’t romanticising the victim but like a character that is the assailant all whilst being the subject of abuse. Although difficult, he’s able to blur the lines between good and bad.
People who like Sangwoo know that he is toxic and aren’t excusing his actions, people just enjoy a complex character with depths, layers and dimensions. Sangwoo is the pillar for Killing Stalking’s captivating story.
there’s definitely a tendency for people on this site to think or imply “i’m a leftist, therefore everything i do is inherently a leftist action”, and this is evidenced both by the mass amounts of discourse surrounding whether it’s inherently feminist to wear makeup and do astrology, and also (mostly) christian leftists making posts about how believing in an afterlife is super progressive and atheism is inherently a reactionary belief system for challenging that
With today’s Hamilton news, I’ve seen the onslaught of hate resurfacing- which is fine, self-expression is important- but I don’t think everyone really understands what’s going on here. Of course, I can’t speak for all fans, but my love of the Broadway musical Hamilton does not cause me to “stan” or unconditionally praise the historical figures within the show. And really, none of those people are the reason I come back to the musical time after time.
IT’S ABOUT THE MUSIC. It’s about the lyrics Lin wrote that inspire me when my life is falling apart. It’s about the happy memories to which Hamilton was the soundtrack. It’s about sharing my love of something beautiful with friends and family. Of course, not everyone is going to like the music and once again that’s fine. I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion about whether or not they like Hamilton. I’m just trying to help you understand why the musical is beloved even if it’s not loved by you.
Are there problems with the musical? Of course. It’s man made and thus could never be perfect. Historical facts are missing or altered for the sake of the musical not lasting six hours. However, the purpose isn’t to be solely informative. A musical is meant to be entertainment. If pure unbiased facts are what you’re after, feel free to read all the history books you want.
While historical facts are missing or altered, the musical does not exclude certain events that show that the characters are complex and human. Yes, Alexander Hamilton is the protagonist. Yes, his achievements and struggles in life are highlighted. No, his affair is not swept under the rug. The affair Hamilton had with Maria Reynolds is a major arc within Act II and Hamilton does not go unpunished for it. The songs in which this affair is highlighted include “Say No To This”, “We Know”, “The Reynolds Pamphlet”, and “Burn”. (“Burn” is actually my favorite song as it is from Elizabeth Hamilton’s perspective as she reacts to her husband’s affair and the pamphlet Hamilton published about it to prove that he had not broken the law. It is gut-wrenching and the vocals are extraordinary.) There is so much more I could say but this is too long already.
I know I cannot stop the hate. People will always find some reason to hate on things that others love. Popular things are especially targeted because there is the misconception that all popular music, shows, movies, etc are empty in feeling or cheap or otherwise unworthy of being considered art. I don’t know if there is some shame felt for “jumping on the band wagon” or some superiority complex in liking things that are “indie” or “unknown” or “underrated”, but I’ve found that more and more people refuse to interact with some of the most beautiful things just because they are popular. And that’s fine. You are entitled to your own choices and opinions, but please base those opinions in true fact instead of making assumptions on a topic you know very little about. I’ve hated things that I ended up loving a few years later and I regret being so closed-minded.
Once again, I am not trying to stop you from self-expression. This post is my self-expression and I wouldn’t want anyone to shame me for putting my thoughts out there, so I would never do that to you. I hope you are safe and healthy regardless of whether you agree with me or not.
2.Muchos seguidores no implican muchas notas
4. No tienes carisma
I feel like how you should conduct yourself online should be something added to all school curriculums. The Internet is a huge part of most people’s lives and it’s not going away in the foreseeable future and so we should teach our young how to act. Teach them that bullying isn’t okay, especially not if you’re anonymous. Teaching them that sending unsolicited pictures of your genitals is just as bad as pulling your pants down in front of someone in person. Teach children internet manners so the internet can become a safer and much more pleasant space to be in for the next generations.
Donald Trump is on the verge of accomplishing what no American president has ever achieved – a truly multi-racial, multi-class, bipartisan political coalition so encompassing it could realign US politics for years to come.
Unfortunately for Trump, that coalition has come into existence to prevent him from having another term in office.
Start with race. Rather than fuel his base, Trump’s hostility toward people protesting the police killing of George Floyd and systemic racism has pulled millions of white Americans closer to black Americans. More than half of whites now say they agree with the ideas expressed by the Black Lives Matter movement, and more white people support than oppose protests against police brutality. To a remarkable degree, the protests themselves have been biracial.
As John Lewis, the great civil rights hero who died on Friday, said last month near where Trump and William Barr, the attorney general, had set federal police in riot gear and wielding tear gas on peaceful protesters, “Mr President, the American people … have a right to protest. You cannot stop the people with all of the forces that you may have at your command.”
Even many former Trump voters are appalled by Trump’s racism, as well as his overall moral squalor. According to a recent New York Times/Sienna College poll, more than 80% of people who voted for Trump in 2016 but won’t back him again in 2020 think he “doesn’t behave the way a president ought to act” – a view shared by 75% of registered voters across battleground states which will make all the difference in November.
A second big unifier has been Trump’s attacks on our system of government. Americans don’t particularly like or trust government but almost all feel some loyalty toward the constitution and the principle that no person is above the law.
Trump’s politicization of the justice department, attacks on the rule of law, requests to other nations to help dig up dirt on his political opponents, and evident love of dictators – especially Vladimir Putin – have played badly even among diehard conservatives.
Refugees from the pre-Trump GOP along with “Never Trumper” Republicans who rejected him from the start are teaming up with groups such as Republican Voters Against Trump, Republicans for the Rule of Law, the Lincoln Project and 43 Alumni for Biden, which comprises former officials of George W Bush’s (the 43rd president) administration. The Lincoln Project has produced dozens of hard-hitting anti-Trump ads, many running on Fox News.
The third big unifier has been Trump’s catastrophic mishandling of the pandemic. Many who might have forgiven his personality defects and authoritarian impulses can’t abide his bungling of a public health crisis that threatens their lives and loved ones.
Gotta be honest… I don’t really like the LGBT(QIAA2P+) acronym anymore.
Mostly because of the order, as it implies that monosexual members of the community (LG) are more important than multisexual members (BP+), and it ALSO implies that cis LGB members are more important than trans members of the community… and then there’s the whole thing with multiple other identities and labels being hidden behind the plus symbol, wherever that lands (if its used at all).
Idk I just dont really like it anymore.
Can we go back to using Queer as our community label? Queer rights, queer liberation, queer history, queer power, etc.
Especially when you consider most of the big fights for our community to be recognised as equal are labelled under the term gay. Gay rights, gay pride, gay history, etc. That (perhaps unintentionally) excludes a lot of us. And frankly, I’m not comfortable being excluded anymore. I’m trans and bisexual, my identities do not get treated with the respect that cis gay and lesbian people get, and Im pretty tired of it.
Others in the community have it even worse, having their identities treated as a joke or a trend. Having parts of who they are being mocked and degraded and pushed aside to make way for the “respectable” gays and lesbians.
I’m tired of it.
Gen X/Older Millennial queers pls take me away from this new wave nonsense please (/joking).
(OK to reblog but gatekeepers and bigots are not welcome on this post, or on any of my posts. I don’t want to hear your ice cold takes on this or anything else. Go away.)
I have something disrespectful to say and I’m sorry.
All the people who hates Luther from Umbrella Academy makes me feel like they don’t know a shit about toxicity. It is quite probably you don’t know about abusive parents and how works family issues. The lack of empathy makes me feel upset.
yeah eddie being all sweet and shy is great and I dig that concept but you know what? give me dominant eddie. give me eddie knowing how to flirt, give me eddie knowing exactly how to play the game because he’s a little shit. give me eddie driving richie or whomever crazy in that cheeky, playful way and knowing he does.
Can you be more compassionate ? Everyone felt the connection between Bob & Eliza for years. Nothing happened, they were friends. But it's not bcs nothing happened that Bob & Eliza didn't fall in love without notice it. Arryn felt it & it makes sense. And this is why their feelings was strong & they decided to elope. But Bob broke up with her in Feb, she learned he already move on in March, then learned he is married with EJ & they live together in her dream house. IN 4 MONTHS. She is heartbroken
Trying to figure out when did I say that I didn’t have any sympathy towards A?
Any man or woman in her position would feel how she felt, betrayed, confused. The only difference is that I wouldn’t go on Twitch rants and airing out all of my dirty laundry out onto the internet.
Accusations such as this does NOT belong on the internet, for the court of public opinion to decide whether or not if the person is shitty.
That’s my problem. There is a difference between telling your truth and feeling and just being petty and immature. The majority of this fandom can attest to the pettiness and immaturity. None of them have learned from it. NOTHING.
That’s what I can’t even wrap my head around. How people who are so for the victim, can turn around and do the same thing to another target in spite of what the victim attests to in their statement.
She has been bullied, harassed, stalked, mocked, called names, doxxed, and the list goes on for YEARS. B has nothing to do with or has any type of hold or influence on PEOPLE and their BEHAVIOR. He can only speak for himself.
Also. E didn’t name names, she didn’t speak ill of A, she didn’t even mention anything of the sort. She made clear the accusations towards her are FALSE. The Cheating, Manipulation, Gaslighting that A accused her of.
E doesn’t even have to speak for B, B can speak for himself. And in reality, HE DOESN’T HAVE TO SPEAK. He isn’t obligated to say shit, E didn’t even have to say anything.
All in all. I am empathetic towards the fact that people dragged A into a situation in the beginning when she was getting over it, moving on. Fans provoked her. B & E could have been married secretly, yet, fans decided to out them. So in reality, who is really at fault here?
I don't understand why so many people seem to ship Mitsuba x Kou. I don't want to disrespect anyone, everyone has their own ships, but just, there's nothing romantic between them until what we know. It's known that Kou likes Nene and cares a lot about Mitsuba, and I just don't get their ship. I've no idea if they mean romantically or as friends, but I suppose ship is meant to be romantic and these things made me confused. If as friends, okay, but romantically I think it is so forced.
ooh, anon-san. i really don’t know how to start this. i really hope anon-san’s opinion and mine won’t disrespect anyone. i really love the jshk fandom, i hope you understand :( this contains spoilers and mentions of death, beware!
Mitsuba and Kou are also my favorites in the series. i think that their ship is cute but kinda.. lacks something? it’s really obvious that Kou had a small crush on his senpai. i mean, who could not like Nene? but i feel like when he started to see Nene and Hanako’s flirting actions towards each other, he stopped thinking about Nene being a potential love interest. it is also worth to note that even Yokoo and Satou knew about Kou having a crush on their Yashiro-senpai. so now, he’s more like a wingman for HanaNene..
anyway, let’s go back to the MitsuKou/KouMitsu ship (sorry, i’m not sure what’s the official ship name for them is hehe)
when he met Mitsuba again as a ghost, he wanted to help him move on because he didn’t want to exorcise him. so helping Mitsuba with something he didn’t get to do, would be a better solution. but when Kou figured out he knew him before, something inside him changed. he grew attached to Mitsuba and wanted to become friends with him. but of course, Tsukasa happened.
in the Hell of Mirrors, they meet again. we could see how much it hurt Kou that Mitsuba doesn’t remember him. so this proves how much he cares about him. he even introduces himself again so that Mitsuba won’t forget..
we could see in the aftermath of this arc, where Kou is worried for both his friend and his senpai. this kid has already been through so much. so much.
now in the Picture Perfect Arc. so Kou saw Mitsuba again, but now he’s alive here. it really bothered Kou that the others are treating Mitsuba like their classmate. he knows that he is already dead, he knows that he is a ghost now. a supernatural. but then he shows up alive?
then Mitsuba’s real wish was revealed. he wanted to become human again. he is willing to be the Fake Mitsuba in the fake world. he even tried to convinced Kou to become friends again. but Kou refused. he wants to get out and to bring Mitsuba in the real world again. he will find a way there to grant his friend’s wish. but Mitsuba snaps at him saying he doesn’t understand at all. and he even wishes everyone dead.
so Kou came up with the idea of jumping to his death so he could understand Mitsuba better. i mean, i haven’t encountered friends dying for each other but this is extreme! this is the turning point for both of them! Kou is willing to die for Mitsuba, and Mitsuba is willing to stop living in the fake world for Kou.
now in the latest chapter we have them again. Mitsuba heard Yokoo and Satou talking about Kou is the type who shoulders everything. this actually made him worry about Kou. and i like how he calls him “Minamoto-kun” and not Hella-Lame Traffic Safety Earring Boy. but.. he calls him an airhead thoughー
in my opinion, because of Mitsuba’s wish to become human again and Nene’s lifespan, Kou is too occupied to worry about love for now. he cares about them both so he’s trying his best to solve these for them. i fully understand your reasons, anon-san so you don’t need to worry! i guess i’m just picky with my ships, but i have no hate on Mitsuba x Kou!
Can I just say that I HATE “stan” culture. Celebrities are people. They mess up. Some are obviously crap people and shouldn’t be supported, but I hate the idea of “canceling” someone when they make a mistake or do something you disagree with. People aren’t just good or bad. That’s not how life works. You don’t have to unwaveringly support anyone. Life is a lot more nuanced than that. (Sorry for the rant)
I agree. Celebrities are people and we shouldn’t diminish that part. If the person is truly sorry and willing to educate themselves, I don’t see why we should label them as ‘cancelled’ for the rest of their lives. We all mess up. It’s normal and human.
And don’t be sorry for the rant, it’s great that you’re expressing your opinion in a very respectful way.
Before anyone calls me out for not being okay with Backstreet Rookie but still liking Goblin, I wanted to share my two cents on how I think the two dramas differ in terms of the age gap. I know a lot of people have already talked about this, and probably explained it much better than I will, but I like inserting myself into public discussions so, you know. This is me doing that.
Also, I want to preface this by saying that I didn’t like the age gap in Goblin either. That was problematic too. But as I will explain later, there are reasons for why I think it’s easier to overlook that in Goblin.
Also also, if you think that I’m hypocritical for liking Goblin, even after reading this, you have every right to think that. If you find the age gap in both shows inexcusable, you don’t have to change your opinion based on my words, nor would I really even want you to. I’m just going to lay out my own, personal thoughts on this whole thing, and that’s all. I am not here to try and corrupt your moral code.
First, a few facts just to get the full context:
Jung Saet-byul in Backstreet Rookie is 19 years old at the beginning of the show, and kisses Choi Dae-hyun (unconsented) while she’s still 19 and in high school. There’s a time jump of 3 years, after which they meet again, and by that point Saet-byul is 22. Dae-hyun’s age is unclear, but he is in his twenties at least, and in the source material he was 33 when they met again.
Ji Eun-tak in Goblin was 19 years old when she first met Kim Shin. They didn’t start a relationship until she was 20 years old. By the end of the series there’s a time jump of 9 years and Eun-tak is 29 when she’s reunited with Kim Shin. Kim Shin in the drama is an immortal being and is 900+ years old.
The lead actors in Backstreet Rookie have an age difference of 13 years - Kim Yoo-jung is 20, and Ji Chang-wook is 33.
The lead actors in Goblin have an age gap of 12 years - at the time of filming the drama, Kim Go-eun was 25 and Gong Yoo was 37.
Now, let’s get to the bits you actually came here to read:
The way that Ji Eun-tak’s character is portrayed in Goblin is very different from the way in which Jung Saet-byul is portrayed in Backstreet Rookie.
Ji Eun-tak is not sexualised. She isn’t portrayed as an “attractive high schooler” - she’s just portrayed as a normal high school senior. She wears comfortable clothes and baggy trousers under her skirt, and acts like a normal 19-year-old would. There aren’t grown men - or anyone for that matter - drooling over her, and Kim Shin isn’t shown to be attracted to her until later.
Jung Saet-byul is very clearly sexualised. There are so many shots of her in just the first episode, where it’s like the show is screaming at the audience “Look at this super sexy and good looking high schooler!”. It just feels like almost everything she does is for the male gaze. Choi Dae-hyun evidently finds her attractive, as he instantly gives her his phone number after she kisses him. (He was drunk, to be fair, but that’s a flimsy excuse at best)
So those are the most prominent things that come to mind when thinking of the differences between Eun-tak and Saet-byul. It’s very clear what the intention with these characters was, and the intentions with Ji Eun-tak were far more innocent, and far less gross than the intentions with Jung Saet-byul. Ji Eun-tak is a character, Jung Saet-byul is a walking sexual object.
If you think that’s too harsh a statement, especially after just seeing one episode of Backstreet Rookie, I’m sorry. That’s just how I felt while watching it.
(I could also mention the fact that Goblin is a fantasy show and Kim Shin is immortal and therefore anyone who was human would be “too young” for him, or that Kim Go-eun was older than Kim Yoo-jung when she was in Goblin, but those are kind of “meh” reasons in my opinion. I mean yes, Goblin being a fantasy makes it feel more removed from reality, whereas Backstreet Rookie being set in the real world can make it seem worse in a way, but these are the kind of reasons that I consider to be less important. Still valid, but not as relevant)
And what I think is the biggest reason as to why a lot of people - including me - like Goblin but not Backstreet Rookie, is that Goblin is just a good fucking show. Obviously that’s not an objective fact, but it is genuinely a well made drama. It has a good plot, interesting and fleshed-out characters, a well written script, and it’s just good. There are so many redeeming qualities to it, that most people can just kind of ignore the age gap, while still acknowledging that it’s not the greatest part of the show.
The same can’t really be said of Backstreet Rookie, though. And yes, I know - it’s just the first episode at this point. But it’s so clear from just the first episode what direction the drama is going. There are no redeeming qualities. The age gap isn’t the only problematic element of the show. And even the parts that aren’t problematic, aren’t good enough to excuse the problematic parts.
There are a lot of dramas that have one or two problematic things in them, like an age gap or a power imbalance or a male lead that’s just a little too aggressive to not be toxic. This is a norm in a lot of kdramas, especially older ones. It’s pretty much a given that you’re gonna at some point find a drama with problematic parts if you watch more than five kdramas, and so people who watch kdramas on the regular have to make boundaries for themselves which dictate what can and cannot be excused or ignored. And for me, Backstreet Rookie falls outside of that boundary. It’s so problematic and so badly made and has such a disgusting source material that I just can’t ignore the problematic parts because if I do, there’s almost nothing left in the drama!
So yeah. This is why I believe Backstreet Rookie is worse than Goblin. You can disagree, and that’s fine, but I hope this is enough for people to at least understand the differences between the dramas.
Why I personally believe the last side won’t be Wrath:
It’s not creative. I’m pretty sure the team has something way more creative and interesting in their mind than Angey. We had a side for Intrusive Thoughts of all things, which nobody managed to predict, even if it makes a lot of sense.
Wrath is an emotion. An emotion isn’t a personality side. The only side that is based on an emotion is Anxiety, and that’s literally all. And the whole point about Anxiety is that he’s a lot more. We needs sides of a personality here, not just Angey.
The last side has already been revealed, how did everyone manage to forget about Hamilton’s original cast Aaron Burr himself - Leslie Odom Jr.??????????? PREPOSTEROUS! LUDICROUS! SHAMEFUL!
Growing up, many of my friends and family members were saddened and angered by the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Eric Garner. They were depressing and could have been avoided. The Black Lives Matter Movement seemed like a welcome to combat police brutality. However, it fizzled out as years went by.
BLM handled their radical members terribly. While you can’t help the lone crazy ones who go out and shoot police officers or commit terrible crimes under the guise of BLM, rioting and shouting insults and threats at police officers during protests should have not been tolerated. It only cheapened the movement. A movement’s greatest asset is good PR. What most members don’t realize is you need support. You need to bring people to your side, and being nasty and hateful doesn’t do the trick. It’s never worked, and you calling for police officers to die is one of the reasons why your movement was hindered.
“It’s the women that aren’t unusually attractive that are hiding the wild fires of Shangra-La, any lady that wears makeup can be pretty.. give me the unexplored regions of a woman that never had a chance to open up emotionally any day. That is where the true gold lies, not between her thighs.. I want to know you from the inside alright but in your mind. There’s so many women that are hot and they know it, so every guy is hitting on them.. give me a nice smile, some eye contact, warm hugs, and a great personality any day. That’s where the real worth is, anybody can fuck.. but can you fuck holes into my heart and impregnate my soul..”
I didn’t mean to cuss there, I went a little overboard but the gist is that a body will wither and melt away, what is inside of it is what will be sitting next to you in 40 years and you will quite probably be having a lot less snap, crackle, and pop.. so you will want to have someone to talk to that likes you for you orrrrr there will be a LOT of silence - eUë
You may wish to reinterpret myth, legend, and history, but it doesn’t mean you should. Though continuous reimagining we may end up with something that doesn’t resemble its original concept. At some point, you are going to end up with something immensely disconnected from its roots.
Every religion, theology, and deity has the good and the bad. They have their strengths and weaknesses; they have their rules, rituals, and other buy-ins. I mean that if you choose to be Jewish, you have to accept Judaism as it is. Judaism will not change for you. Neither will Christianity. Their core fundamental beliefs are not up for debate. That is what defines them as such.
When it comes to working with deities, the gods are who they are and will not change or update to serve your preferences. Stories of myth and legend just like religious organizations are not up for modern overhauls whether they are politically correct, inclusive or not.
I am speaking speaking specifically to when people push back against specific core values or fundamentals and when people try to re-interpret without academic or reputable citation, not specifically the slow and subtle changes that happen over time in accordance with progression with laws and society.
For example, the way we worship has changed, but the books of the bible, and the ten commandments are not up for debate. Who and what Peter, Paul, Ruth, and Moses are/did, without valid citations are not up for reinterpretation. Without new discovery, evidence or citation, to change, let say Jesus characteristics to make him fit into a narrative that I feel comfortable with, to reimagine his intents does myself a disservice. If I change it to much, at some point I may have something that no longer resembles the original source. My intent is to be more cautionary in new approaches and to also consider original context.
There seems to be a trend these days to reinvent, reimagine, or repurpose things to meet our narratives or identities. Although I can understand why it may be tempting to do so, that doesn’t mean we should. Sometimes you won’t like the traits, the history, or the stories.
Sometimes you will be left out. You will not be welcome. You can either take it or leave it, but you have to accept that you do so, recognizing the good and the bad if you move forward.
For example, I love Athena, but I’m not too fond of her treatment of Medusa. Lately, I have seen a reinterpretation of the legend that suggests Athena’s punishment wasn’t a punishment. It’s a beautiful idea, but sadly it’s an unlikely one. The context of the time is essential, and any reimagining moves us away from her roots, validity, and purity of concept. So I can either take her or leave her, but no romantic reinterpretation will change her original legacy.
I would even go as far to suggest that to try to change antiquity does history, yourself and your practice a great disservice. Why use Athena if you don’t embrace her and how will you effectively connect with or use her if you try to rewrite her? Why call yourself Jewish or Christian if you disagree fundamentally with their beliefs? You can try to mask, disguise or reimagine the things you don’t like but that fact is… you’re just painting a turd, and under that paint is still a turd.
As always I am open for discussion. Tell me your thoughts.
I understand that as a mangaka your art style is bound to change as you improve but I feel that Mashima’s current style, although polished, lacks the uniqueness that it had in the earlier volumes of Fairy Tail.
The girls’ designs were so much more distinctly different but now their features are a lot more generalised. However, in Edens Zero, it looks like Mashima has been able to find the balance in his art style which is great but I wish he’d found it sooner …
Hermitcraft s6 is a good example, like look at the area77 arc. If it wasn’t a half roleplay, the time machine thing wouldn’t even happen!
Rendog, I mean, have you seen this man’s episodes lately?
Beef and Wels’ latest episodes as well
The mayoral race, it’s all in good fun
grumbot, there’s no way that grumbot’s responses aren’t scripted, the way that he has a specific answer for a specific question rather than a randomized answer coming from one of the 9 slots of a dropper/dispenser is enough proof for me
hermitcraft is a half roleplay, if it wasn’t, they’d be making bases, pranks here and there, no story , no flavor
i call it a half roleplay rather than a full one because they aren’t necessarily roleplaying as a specific character, rather a persona. They also play survival like normal rather than in a set.
It may not be a full roleplay, but the story is there to drive hermitcraft further
This may seem obvious to some, but I’m just pointing it out in case someone says hermitcraft isn’t a roleplay. Technically it isn’t, technically it is
One thing I want to say, and Skyward spoke on this to some degree, but there are way too many characters in Kingdom Hearts. And with the exception of a tiny handful (and I mean that literally) the majority of them are underdeveloped and heavily underutilized. Nomura or whomever is responsible for the character development of the series does the absolute bare minimum with the characters (again save for a few and for those of you who know which ones I’m talking about, then you know).
Are the characters likeable? Yes, but everything beyond that is surface level. It’s skin deep. There isn’t enough depth to them and that’s something I want to see changed. You got these amazing characters with so much potential and yet you don’t do shit with them. Instead, you just create more characters? How does that make sense? It’s whatever though. I guess what matters to them is likeablitiy. But can you blame me for wanting more out of the characters though?
i mean i get it why you’d make a post like ‘reblog this is you hate terfs/maps/homophobes’ and stuff, i totally get it and i agree w it!! but can some of u not add additions like ‘if u don’t reblog this unfollow me uwu’/’if u dont reblog this ur a bad person!’
Controversial take here: Digimon is a hundred times better than pokemon, the original animated series especially, and digimon did not get the peripheries it deserved to the same level pokemon did. I would pay gold to see a digimon game with the same funding and advertising as pokemon.
I just wanted to share my take on Gray and Lucy’s relationship as I’ve seen a couple of posts claiming that they STILL having feelings for each other and to this, I disagree.
To be clear I do ship Graylu, it’s my favourite non-canon ship and it will always have a special place in my heart but that doesn’t mean I fail to recognise that they’re both in love with other people.
It’s a fact that Mashima had set the foundation for romantic development between Gray and Lucy but he hadn’t developed Graylu any further. During the Tenrou Island Arc, both Gray and Natsu began to acknowledge Juvia and Lucy as more than friends but Mashima still allowed space for nice Graylu moments up until the Eclipse Celestial Spirits Arc where it was made abundantly clear, Gray and Lucy would no longer be prospective romantic partners.
Now that the introduction is out of the way, here is my interpretation; Gray DID have a crush on Lucy. It was very evident he found most women attractive from his obvious stutter and flutter to their naked bodies but attraction is different from an explicit crush. Although Gray had a crush on Lucy, he fell in love with Juvia as did Lucy with Natsu. Many of us have crushes that we don’t pursue for various reasons and eventually, we slowly but surely fall in love with other people. I believe that Gray nor Lucy have a crush on each other anymore but I do believe they hold a fondness for each other. Not only was he one of the first mages to greet her when she joined Fairy Tail but he watched her grow as a wizard and mature as a person. She went from a closeted rich girl who called on her spirit to carry her through the snow to the most powerful celestial mage in existence. Their bond has a depth and truth that can not be replicated.
In conclusion, be unapologetic and ship what you like because characters can be compatible despite the circumstances but please don’t debunk canon ships, Juvia saved Gray and Natsu saved Lucy … it’s disrespectful to belittle their development.
“ I’m not sure if this opinion is unpopular or not and it’s more about the fans than the actual series, but basically, I think that the OnS fandom needs to chill. People are being super toxic especially when someone likes a "problematic” character that they don’t like. It’s okay to dislike a character for any reason, but some people take it to the extremes. I saw countless posts in which people described very, very graphic ways in which they wanted to murder some of these fictional characters and I even saw one post that said that everyone who has the audacity to like Ferid should die a very painful death.
I think that people in my fandom really need to calm down and stop making hundreds of posts dedicated to explaining how much they hate a character or how bad this character’s fans are.
Because, come on! Liking a problematic character does NOT mean that you think what they did is right.
Also, pretty much every character in OnS is problematic. Like, in one chapter Yuu literally said that he can revive the Hyakuya kids, he’d totally mess with the Seraph of the end experiment that he knew could cause a huge part of the human population to die.
Other than that… Literally every character murdered at least one person on the battlefield. So being a fan of one character while also saying you’re not allowed to like a different one is pretty hypocritical if you ask me.
Can’t we just. Enjoy ourselves and like whichever character we want to like without being harassed?
And if someone liking a “problematic” character bothers you so much, you can always block that person and carry on with your life.
Another thing… Every character has a fan somewhere in the world and even if they’re problematic as f.ck, maybe they are very important for someone else and seeing so much character hate may make that person feel really bad?
Like… I’ve been struggling with depression and Ferid always managed to cheer me up at least a bit. He’s funny and I like his attitude, basically he’s a huge comfort for me… And when I was looking through the OnS tag on Tumblr and saw a shitton of hate directed at him and his fans, I nearly got a panic attack and I was about to physically hurt myself because I felt as if I was a bad person for actually liking him and finding comfort through him…
Sorry if this got too personal, but basically, I’m not the only person who’s struggling with this and I know many people who also have characters who are so important to them because they brought them comfort during difficult times… So I think that before someone makes a post about how much they hate a character, they should think about these people and how will they feel in their place…“
First of all, thanks to @zoliis for your opinion / comment. // Their opinion wasn’t fitting in my asking box, that’s why I had to copy it in my post. // (If any of my readers would like to join the discussion: Feel free to comment down below !! Please try to be polite and formulate your opinion factually)
My Opinion :
I can only totally agree with you.
And I have to say, I’ve read / seen some extreme things here as well. Wherever I thought: Wow does that have to be? Everyone has characters that they don’t like, that’s for sure, but I personally would never think of writing multiple hate and murder comments about them. I find that partly disrespectful to the people who like these characters, and I’m sorry for people like you, I hope you feel better now.
Since, as you said, such characters are a haven of rest for many people and I can imagine that it is not so nice to read such blatant things about them. That’s why I think everyone should be more considerate of others and if you want to write about a character that you don’t like, you can do it, but in a factual way. As long as those don’t become offensive and deliver murder sentences it’s okay imo.
That’s why I think it’s really good that you shared your experience with us here. Maybe some people think about it now before making such comments.
Some time ago I reblogged a picture that dealt with something like that. I briefly summarize it for you:
It’s okay to hate a character, but what’s not okay is to:
- force everybody else to hate said character
- humiliate someone who loves the character,
- push someone to hate a person who likes / loves this character
- to force a person to say that they are problematic for loving an apparently problematic character
These are actually unwritten rules that everyone should follow. Everyone should feel free to love a character or not. Then there would generally be more peace in each fandom. Of course everyone is individual, has different ways of thinking and feelings. That’s why there will always be people like that. But there is still the block button if having the need.
So that was it for today, thanks for reading this long ass post. Have a nice day everybody!! ✨ Also feel free to share your opinion about it in the comments 😁
The worst kind of unsolicited dick pics are those who doesn’t even bother saying hi or introducing themselves. Right away, the first message will be the picture of his dick. That will be an automatic block for me.
But usually if I had conversation with someone and he sent unsolicited dick pics, I just tell them to not do it again, I don’t block or embrassed or expose them, not wasting my time on it because I know that they’re more than just dick pics, they are good people.
Like women who post their half naked bodies online, I think they also want to get appreciation in their own way.
Just an opinion and that doesn’t reflect the majority of women’s opinion. I just tend to think differently than others and thats just how I deal with it.
I get the impression that Donald did tell the boys things about Della while they were growing up. Just not much.
He didn’t want the whole “I love blank so much that even to think about them breaks my heart so I’ll never ever ever mention them even though their child(ren) whom I am raising have every right to know more then three things about them and not saying anything is purely selfish of me and it’s definitely going to come back and bite us in the tails” situation to happen with his boys.
I think he might have been willing to say more, but whenever one of them mentioned her Donald would just look so, so sad. He’d answer them in a few words and after a few minutes he’d go to his room and be back with puffy eyes and he’s give them all long, tight hugs. At that point they were all pretty young but seeing Unca Donald that upset scared them. They’ve gotten used to his anger, that’s just Unca, but sadness? Especially when it’s still so fresh for him and they’re pretty young and don’t really understand emotions yet. So they unanimously decided not to ask about mom unless they have to. And they never really have to, so they don’t know much. Donald is secretly relieved about this, it makes hiding the adventures that much easier. Yet as the years go on he’s a little sad that they’re growing up knowing so little about her. But he’s worried she’s become a sensitive subject for them so he doesn’t ask them if they wanna know more.
But once Season 1 is over and its out in the open they talk about her a lot, and with Scrooge there it makes the stories all the more fun to tell and hear.
Basically, I don’t think they knew much about her but not because Donald wouldn’t talk about her. I think too highley of both Donald Fauntleroy Duck and the DT Crew to think they’d jump to such a lame and overused clieche.
I would love to hear your thoughts on Selah and the Spades if you ever get the chance to watch it! It’s on Amazon Prime
OK so. This movie was one of the rare movies I watch where I cared more about the setting and the environment than I did about the characters; the cinematography in Selah and the Spades is gorgeous and it’s poignant and it’s artistic, almost literary, I found myself lost in all of the luscious colours and the striking shots, every shot could be a painting
but all of the emotion, all of the energy that’s in the movie, I got more from the direction than I did from the actors/characters and even from the script.
I believe there’s a connection between Selah and Paloma because of the close-ups and the way the camera lingers on them, the direction indicates to me that there’s an intimacy there but I’m only willing to go with that so much because I don’t see how we get to certain moments; I believe it when Selah says that she’s glad she’s met Paloma but I don’t believe it when she says she doesn’t know what she’d do without her (even if it is manipulation, which I don’t believe it is).
I believe it when Maxxie says that he’s known Selah their whole lives and I do get a sense of them being friends, of course, but to a point, I don’t see how he’d believe Selah would always go back for him because I never got the ride-or-die vibe from them.
For as intriguing as Selah is supposed to be, I didn’t find her to be all that interesting. The way the camera captured her with this poetic gaze was intriguing but as a character? Not so much.
Objectively, I understood. It would be/could be fascinating to see the way that Selah battles her sort of inner-darkness, how she goes from being warm and tender and seemingly open to harsh and cruel and bloodthirsty — especially when her mother talks about how she needs to save Selah from herself — but this is when an actor really has to shine to kind of capture that emotional nuance and I didn’t think Lovie did, the switch between her two natures wasn’t smooth and it wasn’t embodied, her tone kind of remained monotonous throughout the movie to me, I mean everyone’s did (which isn’t to say they aren’t good actors – Jharel Jerome, for instance, has shown us what he can do in other projects) and she never really leaned into her breaking points. Like if she’s going to cut up the sweater then have her actually break down while doing it? She can start off methodically and get more and more frantic and that’s what was supposed to happen but it remains very contained and if the point was for her to have a sort of inner breakdown while remaining outwardly calm then Paloma wouldn’t have rushed over to her and tell her to breathe so the fact that she didn’t really dig into that kind of frenzy didn’t sell the scene or this aspect of Selah’s character to me.
Writing-wise, it would be/could be interesting to see Selah’s facade juxtaposed against her vulnerabilities but I never really saw her facade; I can infer that she’s meant to be seen as perfect, her mother questions her about her 93%, it’s been said that she has the best faction, we see her practice smiling in the mirror but we don’t see that facade put into play, we don’t see her navigate the world with that facade. For instance, in Cruel Intentions, we see Kathryn enact a facade
we see Sebastian enact a facade
I do not get this with Selah.
Even when Maxxie tells Selah that she can’t stand anyone being better than her or prettier than her, that she can’t stand someone else having his attention a) we haven’t seen him act in a way where he always put her first before he got a girlfriend b) we haven’t really seen the way the school responds to her, one note saying that she’s the best faction isn’t enough, we haven’t seen her be the Queen Bee so to speak so it all just comes across as throwaway and typical. Even when she’s walking to her dorm to cry in it, what would’ve made it more poignant for me would be to have her not be able to wait till she gets to her dorm and actually have her run to a bathroom stall (as a throwback to her judging girls who cry in bathrooms) and to have not one person say “hey Selah” on the way but a bunch of people trying to get her attention, trying to call her over or trying to say hi to indicate just how popular she is.
Paloma’s motivations seem entirely tied up in how captivating Selah is meant to be but considering that as a character I didn’t find Selah to actually be captivating (although I did really like their chemistry together) I was just like … I’m sorry, why are you doing this again? In the beginning it is sort of implied that she hasn’t made any friends and she could potentially feel left out as a scholarship student but it’s also not like we see her yearn for inclusion and I didn’t need much to indicate this, instead of her walking through the halls, we could see her eating by herself and glancing over at students who have friends. I just needed an indication that she was missing something that she thought Selah filled but Paloma seemed quite self-sufficient on her own and I didn’t believe the “sway” of Selah so it just had me ask questions that I shouldn’t be asking, like where are her parents, does she not need to check in with them when she stays over at Selah’s, is she poor or just not rich, is there no one else in the newspaper office etc. etc.
Also the idea of Paloma vs. Maxxie or Paloma being too good at being a Spade i.e. “Don’t let Selah tell you otherwise” or Selah drugging Paloma was clunky to me since the whole point is that Selah is graduating and she needs someone to take her place, her competing with Paloma or anyone competing with Paloma when they’re not even going to be around anymore is weird, which leads to me not understanding why Selah finding a successor is super important to her. If it’s the idea of leaving a legacy, I’m going to need to know more about the Spades and the factions, is this something that Selah built herself and it’s the one thing she thinks she’s good at, the one thing she thinks is her own while her mother dominates her life outside of the Spades? Or is it something that’s a school tradition because if it’s simply a school tradition I don’t see why it has to be that deep. It’s not like Paloma is phasing Selah out and rendering her obsolete when she’s leaving anyway.
I also thought it was interesting that the “war” between the faction happened in sophomore year (also what exactly did this war entail) because that means junior year had to have gone by but they’re acting as if the whole thing with Tila (Teela?) happened a year ago, I also expected there to be a more devastating/sinister consequence to Tila (yes, drugging someone is already sinister but I did expect something a little more dramatic).
In terms of factions, I mean the idea was interesting but I actually thought Brick did the whole concept of a seedy underworld in high school better, like instead of just outwardly being like “Factions. Park.” or whatever, they used signals and codes, which adds to the mystery of the whole thing:
and I kept thinking back to Brick especially with Bobby since she’s a drama student and Brick had Kara who was also a drama student:
I’m also not a person who likes themes explicitly stated so the monologues about power had me like, OK. Sure.
All in all, I would give it a B- if the cinematography and direction wasn’t so spectacular so I’m giving it a B.
hello i fell asleep before i could ask questions for your milestone (🥺🥺🥺) but genuinely what are your opinions on john b?
i did a whole post on this forever ago but i cannot find it for the life of me, so if anyone happens to know where that went if you want to tag me in it that would be so appreciated
alright, let’s go
i am the ceo of the john b defense squad
i will never say that season 1 john b was a great friend. i won’t ever claim that he wasn’t selfish. he was selfish and self-centered. that’s very true
but y’all, this boy deserves to be selfish
john b was wrapped up in the gold. i don’t think he was doing any better than ward or big john or the other assholes after the gold, other than not actually murdering someone, but can you blame him? his father died searching for this treasure. on top of that, his father left him a note telling him to finish what he started.
john b didn’t have time to grieve. he didn’t have time to come to terms with the fact that arguably the only family he’s ever really had was gone. he was either in denial, had just admitted that he really is dead, or being told by his dead father that he needs to avenge him
can you imagine that? can you?
and please, we need to give him due credit. he didn’t want that gold because he was greedy. he didn’t want it so he’d be rich. yeah, the idea appealed to him, but it appealed to all the pogues. jj was arguably much worse than him when it came to the gold. jj wanted to be rich. john b wanted to avenge his father, and more than anything make him proud.
in less than a year john b’s father went missing, he was abandoned by every other family member he had and left alone, he lived in denial then had so grieve again when he found out his father really was dead, then he was chased by cps and threatened to be taken away from the only family he had left—the pogues. he was given the false hope of guardianship then betrayed by the one adult he thought he could trust, who just happened to kill his father, manipulated by a cop, then framed for murder.
y’all, john b went THRU it. and in the midst of all of this was being guilt tripped by his dead dad to find this gold at any and all costs, despite his father having died for it
and he was sixteen
john b deserved to be selfish. he earned that right. yeah, he was a super shitty friend. but would you not be? would you have it in you to continue putting everyone else first? can you honestly say that?
My dating life is very different than anything else about me. I respect most people and treat people with basic dignity and human respect. People’s sexuality and romantic preferences, including my future children’s, are none of my business and not a problem. However, certain aspects of a person who I date will be a deal breaker. For example, I won’t date bisexual men. It’s not because I think they’re tainted, more likely to cheat, secretly gay, or any of that. I’m just not attracted to men who also have an attraction to other men, regardless if they are also attracted to women or not.
I also don’t want to date people who are autistic, trans, disabled, or otherwise mentally ill. They can’t change who they are, and they shouldn’t need to. I’m just not going to date them. Do I think that people have stereotypes embedded in their preferences? Sometimes, and if they want to analyze those preferences, they can go ahead and do so. Do I also think we should work to destroy stereotypes about certain people? Yes, because they’re harmful and not true. On the other hand, people’s dating preferences don’t infringe on anybody’s rights.
I understand that it’s hard for certain groups of people to find dates. Apart of me sympathizes but another part of me doesn’t care. It sucks, but my dating preferences aren’t fair. They never will be.
Something I wrote for class that I thought was good :/
A child stands in front of a jury, too young to understand the weight of what they’ve done, looks toward the elders of the room for security, but receives none. When the Pennsylvania Legislature passed Act 33 in 1955, many 15 and 17 year olds who were charged with certain felonies, like robbery or aggravated assault, were tried in an adult court if certain requirements were met, one of those requirements being the use of a weapon during the alleged crime. Because of this law many juveniles have proceeded through court with a lack of understanding of the circumstances. Young Adolescents should not be treated as an adult during a trial for their very future because they do not understand how to proceed as an adult would. Would you let a 15 year old dropout of school and get their own apartment and job? No! Then why should they be tried as adults in court? Studies have shown that the brains of those under their mid 20’s are underdeveloped, causing lack of maturity and harder to decide the risk of their actions. For instance Cameron Kocher, at the age of 9, was put on trial as an adult when he shot a 7 year old with a rifle through his window. According to the article Kids Should Never Be Tried As An Adult, by Robert Schwartz, “Cameron had also dozed during pretrial motions, which showed “a lack of remorse,” when in reality he was most likely not understanding the situation as a whole because of his underdeveloped brain due to his age. Furthermore, in most cases it is illegal to consume alcohol or serve in Congress for many young adults, as stated in the article Raise the Minimum Age a Juvenile Can Be Tried as an Adult to 21, by Vincent Schiraldi, “It is illegal to consume alcohol or purchase a handgun before age 21 and young people can’t serve in Congress until age 25,” which is understandable because of their lack of maturity and experiences. They are considered children in these instances but during a court trial they would be considered an adult for their illegal actions in some courts. In other situations they wouldn’t have the “privilege” of being gifted with “adulthood” by others unless they are in a situation where they do not understand the consequences of their actions. Their innocence and lack of knowledge is taken advantage of during court and results in not receiving the correct punishment.
Okay, um…thoughts on the newest HPHM chapter update (year 6, chapter 25). Spoilers ahead: you’ve been warned.
So first things first…let’s list off the things Firenze has foreshadowed for us. MC will have to face –
1) A difficult decision
2) An adversary “greater than any [they] have ever encountered”
3) Losing someone close to [them], though “not in the way [they] expect”
A lot of people (myself included) think that all three might be hinting to Jacob turning out to be our true enemy. But for me, at least…I feel that if Jam City went down that road, it would be a really big mistake, at least from a writing point of view.
We players have certainly been asked a whole lot along the way whether we trust Jacob and have been given plenty of reason to be suspicious of him – to the point that many players have overtly headcanoned their Jacob as an inherently bad person or just as an antagonistic force or obstacle in their MC’s lives beforehand. Then of course there’s the thought that this could be what shows that Rakepick “isn’t so bad” after all – if Jacob is our real enemy, then her trying to prevent MC from freeing Jacob and saying she would’ve left him in the Cursed Vault even if she’d had a choice wouldn’t have been so terrible. (Though I’m sorry, what happened to Redacted would still not be mitigated.)
But here’s the thing – if Jacob were to be our real enemy…I don’t know how big the emotional impact would be on most players. Because if we strip away our own interpretations of MC and Jacob for a minute…what do we actually know about game!Jacob?
We’ve read his notebooks. We’ve had a few fragmented memories from MC about Jacob, like him persuading MC to help steal some Sickles from their mother’s coat pocket. We’ve heard his voice in MC’s head, egging them on toward the Vault and giving them clues. Depending on the player’s choices, we’ve felt the impact of his loss on MC. We’ve heard about Jacob going to Knockturn Alley and protecting MC from the white-robed assassin. We’ve heard the rumors that have swirled around him through Duncan and others.
But for all we’ve been told about Jacob, we’ve had almost no material showing us who he is, ever since his appearance at the tail end of year 5. He’s had almost no material in year 6, and in most of it, we’ve largely seen him denying MC’s help and talking about going after R. Even if we were to learn more about him in this upcoming chapter, I don’t think it would be enough to get a player emotionally invested in Jacob if they weren’t already – which means that any emotional trauma the revelation of Jacob as evil could cause the player would be largely due to their own personal headcanons about the character, rather than any sincere emotional attachment based around the character itself, like the emotional attachment we players have developed for Talbott, or Chiara, or Barnaby, or Redacted, or hell, even Rakepick, prior year 5. And thus that writing decision would permanently kill off any potential Jacob could’ve had to connect to MC or Jam City’s audience in a meaningful way. Any potential sympathy we could’ve developed for Jacob during year 6 would be completely squandered. And as someone who loves to write myself, that seems like a damn shame.
Jacob being incredibly flawed but not flat-out evil makes for a much more interesting character, in my mind. As someone who presumably went through a lot of the same traumas MC did (namely, trying to break the Vaults’ curses, getting targeted by R, losing his friend), him blindly trying to shove his sibling away, being obsessed with the Vaults and R, and being unable to express his emotions in a constructive manner are great, human flaws for a character who just doesn’t want the cycle to happen again to his sibling. Perhaps there’d be a way for him to be an sympathetic antagonist rather than a flat-out enemy, such as him getting possessed by something in the Cursed Vault or MC and him having a falling out about what to do with what’s in the Vault or with Rakepick – but even then, it’d have to be handled very carefully, because at present, we’ve run out of time to build up much emotional investment in Jacob in those people who already don’t like him. Even sympathetic antagonists like Varian or Cassandra from Tangled the Series had a lot of time devoted to them beforehand to make them likable before they made their more “villainous” turn.
I admit that I am one of those people (like my friend @dat-silvers-girl) who have written and treated Jacob very affectionately even despite the mistakes he’s made in game, to the extent I based my version of Jacob on my beloved deceased uncle…so I would be absolutely heartbroken if this decision was made and would likely go into flat-out “REWRITE” mode because no effin’ way is my bb Jacob Cromwell a villain. But disregarding the personal aspect to it, I still feel like it would be a twist with much less bite than people might think – and more importantly, after being betrayed by Rakepick in year 5, year 6 should be the time for MC and their friends to heal from their experiences and learn to trust again, through their bonds of friendship. I feel like another betrayal – this time from Jacob – would backtrack that arc significantly and likely make the characters slide even further back in their development, rather than help them advance. And as Firenze said, where there is shadow, there is light. The only possible benefit I could think of would be MC presumably having to make their own path independent of Jacob – but I don’t think that benefit would be enough, as many players have already been working independently of Jacob as soon as he left MC in the Vault, and as mentioned, it would effectively cut off not only that relationship but likely any further development for both Jacob and his relationship with MC.
Personally, I would rather have each bullet point address something separate that happens to us in the Vault, based on stuff we already know, rather than all be focused on a betrayal from Jacob.
A difficult decision – We know that this Cursed Vault has some sort of powerful, unique treasure inside of it, one that R has been hunting for years. Perhaps the decision will involve a temptation of sorts. Or perhaps the decision will be about whether or not to spare Rakepick’s life, after what she did.
An adversary “greater than any [they] have ever encountered” – We’ve established that Rakepick is – to quote Moody – only a “minor player” in R. That adversary could very well be R’s leader: the real big bad. If you wanted to get really psychoanalytical, you could even have MC’s greatest threat be themselves (playing into the “temptation” angle).
Losing someone close to [them], though “not in the way [they] expect” – Likely not a death, because after Redacted, that wouldn’t be much of a surprise. If a relationship must end, why not have it be a friendship we’ve built over the span of six years? “Losing” Ben or Merula to their own demons (i.e. one of them decides to bust out on their own and go rogue or maybe even gets captured by R) seems like it would be an infinitely worse gut punch based on how much screentime and development have been devoted to them in contrast to Jacob. (Even if audience reaction on those two characters has always been split down the middle, we’ve still had more time to get emotionally invested in them as actual characters than we have with Jacob.) It would also make us worry more about that character in question and lament what could’ve been, more than simply labeling the character as a one-note traitor.
Only time will tell with this…but I just wanted to jot my feelings down somewhere. Feel free to reblog/comment with your own thoughts! I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions on this whole thing. ❤️💛💙💚
A mind that gives an opinion about a fact is a narrow, limited, destructive mind. You can translate the fact in one way, and I can translate it in another way. The translation of the fact is a curse which prevents us from seeing the actual fact and doing something about the fact. When you and I discuss our opinions about the fact, nothing is done about the fact; you can add perhaps more to the fact, see more nuances, implications, significance about the fact, and I may see less significance in the facts. But the fact cannot be interpreted; I cannot offer an opinion about the fact. It is so, and it is very difficult for a mind to accept the fact. We are always translating, we are always giving different meanings to it, according to our prejudices, conditioning’s, hopes, fears and all the rest of it. If you and I could see the fact without offering an opinion, interpreting, giving a significance, then the fact becomes much more alive - not more alive - the fact is there alone, nothing else matters; then the fact has its own energy which drives you in the right direction.
If Mad Woman is indeed about the Scott/Scooter drama, what do you make of the line ‘And women like hunting witches, too / Doing your dirtiest work for you’? Is this a reference to the Karlie Kloss situation?!? I am loving this level of petty.
Hi! My interpretation, and as I mentioned here there is a specific line in “mad woman” I thought to be about KKW and it is precisely this line that you’ve mentioned as well as the line “it’s obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together” which is broad enough that it can certainly be about Scootter but you could also see as about KKW/Ye as KKW has certainly played a role, if not a bigger role, in the Taylor drama than Kanye himself.
That said, you could also see that line about the female musicians on Scooter’s roster defending Scooter on his behalf (as well as his wife) - as if simply because they have never experienced poor experience at his hand that he isn’t capable of doing it to someone else. Effectively using other women as a shield.
“They not only invade the Hell Ruelle and make out in a closet at a party, they do some detective work.
“ - okay, I think there’s no one here who doesn’t know about this answer from Cassandra.
We all know that the only reason for both of them to get in the closet is to hide from someone. And on the one hand, it would be cool if it was a sudden hot kiss. Anna would stop holding back her feelings and they would just burst out.The only problem in this situation is the fact that after such sudden kisses, there is usually an awkward silence and people distance themselves from each other. They pretend that nothing happened and so on (cliche)
On the other hand, it would be much better if Anna and Ariadne had the same hot kiss, but were fully aware of their actions. Just imagine: they kiss in the closet, then get out of there, look into each other’s eyes, and continue what they didn’t finish in the closet.
What do you think about this? How do you imagine this scene?
Sonic Idw is currently my favorite Sonic medium and I love how Flynn and Stanley write Amy Rose, it's painfully irritating that anti Amy people are calling Idw Amy a Sally Acorn clone and claiming Amy Rose is canonly too immature to lead a group based on a few scenes of games that are over 10 years old at this point.
IDW Sonic is also my current fave Sonic-related thing, something I legit look forward to it each month. Heck, I get leery with all the delays even.
And yeah, IDW Sonic must be the only current Sonic-related media running presently that actually treats the character with respect. Boom made her a strawman whilst the games don’t do anything particularly great with her lately.
I honestly don’t believe being nonbinary is a thing, but I will respect people’s pronouns. This mindset doesn’t have to be a mutually exclusive concept. I’m not about to ask someone “give me definitive proof that being nonbinary is real for me to respect you.” One, nobody owes me anything. It’s such an unproductive and cringey mindset to have. And two, I’ve mulled over this topic for a while and made up my mind. Will it be subject to change? Maybe, but it’s highly unlikely for the time being.
As with all things in the world, people will not agree with my stance on this topic, which they are fully entitled to do so. My worldview is that as long as people, on an individual level, are respecting you and giving you basic human decency, you don’t deserve anymore than that from that person. If they choose to engage with you, it’s of their own volition. If certain viewpoints of theirs you find to be a deal-breaker, you have every right to disengage from them. I’m not here to sway you one way or another. I just want to give my opinion on how I handle situation like this, and why I do it.
You know what I think is crazy? The fact that instead of getting any type of award ceremony for this year all we get is a fucking sing-along version of Grease. First of all why the F U C K is it Grease???? Like who said of all musicals that people love we should give them Grease to replace a very well performed and beautiful award ceremony that recaps the last one year of Broadway. I am very disappointed in this decision. Second, why aren’t they trying to at least make like a quality YouTube video to announce winners of awards. I just feel like there are better solutions to this problem that they are facing then to just cancel it for the year and replace it with a G R E A S E S I N G - A LO N G!!!!! Thank you to all the lovely’s for re blogging and liking my last post :) there are more to come
While my time here has now come to an end, I want you to know that in the last days and hours of my life you inspired me. You filled me with hope about the next chapter of the great American story when you used your power to make a difference in our society. Millions of people motivated simply by human compassion laid down the burdens of division. Around the country and the world you set aside race, class, age, language and nationality to demand respect for human dignity.
That is why I had to visit Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, though I was admitted to the hospital the following day. I just had to see and feel it for myself that, after many years of silent witness, the truth is still marching on.
Emmett Till was my George Floyd. He was my Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. He was 14 when he was killed, and I was only 15 years old at the time. I will never ever forget the moment when it became so clear that he could easily have been me. In those days, fear constrained us like an imaginary prison, and troubling thoughts of potential brutality committed for no understandable reason were the bars.
Like so many young people today, I was searching for a way out, or some might say a way in, and then I heard the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on an old radio. He was talking about the philosophy and discipline of nonviolence. He said we are all complicit when we tolerate injustice. He said it is not enough to say it will get better by and by. He said each of us has a moral obligation to stand up, speak up and speak out. When you see something that is not right, you must say something. You must do something. Democracy is not a state. It is an act, and each generation must do its part to help build what we called the Beloved Community, a nation and world society at peace with itself.
Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble. Voting and participating in the democratic process are key. The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed. You can lose it.
