The first word that comes to mind when I think of this most recent trip is harrowing. Probably overly dramatic. Yes, undoubtedly overly dramatic.
It started with a flight delay. Should have left at 4pm, but didn’t board until 5:30, then didn’t take off for another hour. Then the hotel. The first room they gave me was way on the back of the property and the guys drinking beer outside their room several doors down from mine kinda creeped me out. Inside the room were multiple signs of construction. But the best part was the lack of towels (save for the dirty one in the tub), lack of toilet paper, poop remnants stuck inside the bowl, no soap, and no phone. I also couldn’t tell for sure that the bed hadn’t been used and not changed over. So I called the front desk (from my cell, because no phone!) and asked for another room, which they provided. I opted to order in, as it was already 8:30pm and I didn’t want to go back out, though I did feel much safer in my new room. Food was fine. I had a call with Legend. I ran through my slides. Then I slept. My morning shower was all hot water, until there was no water, then someone finished their shower and I got hot water back (with a tiny bit of cold). I mentioned this to the front desk when my room card stopped working earlier and maintenance came while I was on my call and spent 45 minutes repairing it. Here’s hoping I don’t have all cold tomorrow.
Travel drama aside, the meeting is fine and my presentation went well. I don’t know that I knocked any socks off, though one of the meeting organizers told me shortly after my talk concluded that she’d already heard from 3 people how good they thought it was. So maybe I did ok?
The director for a company Sir interviewed with, then never heard back from (despite being brought down for a full day of interviews), is co-teaching the meeting today. After my talk, I chatted with her about her program and asked if she’d found anyone for the position. I didn’t want to be a bitch and outright ask her why she’d never gotten back to him, but I do sincerely hope that she understands how shitty it was that she never told Sir that they were hiring someone else. Who knows - maybe he’ll get an email tomorrow telling him just that.
The meeting ends for the day in about 90 minutes, then there’s a silent auction, then an awards dinner. Tomorrow, we have a Board meeting that ends at 3pm. I was supposed to get dinner with my sis Monday night, but because of the flight stuff, we’ll meet up tomorrow afternoon, before my 8pm flight.
I can’t wait for this trip to be done. I am so ready to be home for a nice long stretch. I miss Legend. I miss my cats. I do not miss the airport.
