I have read the different opinions that you have about the appearance and attitude of Thor in Endgame, and for the most part, all thoughts are negative. But I think: Can you really blame him?
He simply lost everything and so fast. He never had the time to assimilate it because he preferred to keep busy or, he was forced to be busy. And at some point all his positive energy was going to disappear. He always tried so hard to keep going, and nothing came out anyway.
He tried, he fought, he continued. But everything always got ruined anyway. Thor had grown up with the idea that he must be a hero, a king and a protector and he failed. Surely that left him devastated, unable to be what he was supposed to.
Thor lost hope in himself. We have all gone through something like that. And seeing himself tormented by the ghosts of his failure, he decided to hide with his humiliation. With the help of alcohol to not think, not feel, not remember. He hit rock bottom. He had so many things accumulated and he just blew up. Therefore, he had every right to feel bad. He didn’t have a shoulder to cry on and no one in particular.
Fat Thor is the most real thing we’ve seen in the character emotionally. And I just think it’s perfect. I just wanted to hug him and tell him that everything would be fine. That it was not his fault. Even i almost cried when he asked the others to let him be useful so desesperate. All the bad self-esteem that the trauma left him was evident.
This is probably not what we expected, but this part of Thor should be respected after everything he did. In the end, he even fought but that didn’t give him back anyone. Everyone recovered something, but Thor was alone after a long life of comforts and memories with his loved ones.
I really hope he finds happiness. And that he finally finds his own path, because for a long time he only followed what he should be and not what he craved. He never wanted to be king.
Every time the characters or the audience made fun of him, I could not help being angry. Please, please. Respect his depression. The sun will shine again someday for him.
As for the anger of many fangirls thanks to the “little interest he showed” for Loki, it’s like, really? Thor always thought of Loki. From Thor (2011) to Endgame. Even at Infinity war he did everything to avenge the death of his brother, and those five years of being an emotional disaster are thanks to the loss of Loki and all others. The poor man had too much on him to think about only one thing in Endgame.
He did not even want Frigga to see him in his current state, she forced him to talk to her. And he felt so bad with the simple fact of seeing the palace, his mother…Imagine if he had met Odin or Loki. His soul would have been torn in two.
I feel it was good that he talked to Frigga. He had many moments with Loki, even a few with Odin but never with his mother. It was nice.
I hope he will improve in the future. But in the meantime, do not be so hard on him. Respect his depression.
