Paraguayan javelin thrower Leryn Franco became an overnight sensation back at the Beijing 2008 Olympics but it was not down to her talent with the javelin. Leryn’s beauty sent men across the world into a frenzy in an attempt to find out who this stunning athlete was.
Although Franco did not make it to the finals of the javelin in Beijing, she did manage to throw her Personal Best and also win over the hearts of men everywhere. Now she is set to do it all over again, as she prepares to make the trip to the London 2012 Olympics next summer.
Leryn Franco has since been declared number one in The 100 Hottest Athletes Of All Time by Bleacher Report and has featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition this year. However, Leryn is keen to improve on her javelin and hopes to progress further at the London 2012 Olympics.
Paraguayan athlete and model Leryn Franco has defended her decision to participate in the Javelin at the Pan American Games despite her illness. Leryn had been suffering from Influenza A and Strep in the build up to the event and it was unclear whether she would take part.
The illness caused Franco to lose three kilos, which affected her ability to get enough distance on her throws and she failed to get in the medals. It was even suggested by her doctor that she should not participate but Leryn insists that she was right to take part.
Unfortunately for Leryn Franco she only managed to throw the javelin 48.70m, which was way short of the winning throw of 58.01m by Deshaiser Alicia. Hopefully Leryn can rediscover her best form in time for the London 2012 Olympics.
