A beam of sunshine tickling his nose and the warmth of the sun on his face were what had woken Sparrow from his sleep. He was lying in a bed… that much he could tell from both the soft mattress he felt beneath his chest and the pillow at least half of his face was currently buried in. Something was different, though, for this wasn’t his bunk and neither could he feel the faint and only too familiar rocking of the Pearl as she was floating across the waves.
‘Where the hell am I?‘ He began to wonder in silence, but decided then that this was hardly the time to care about that. Not now. Not when he was too tired to open his eyes. So he merely shrugged a shoulder and gave an ever so soft sigh before drifting back off to sleep.
It was just in that moment, however, that he became aware of something… odd, something that gave him reason to furrow his brows even in his doze. A shift of weight beside him followed by the sound of soft breathing, ultimately, caused him to turn his head enough to see the person sleeping beside him.
Not without a quite considerable shock did he take notice of the fact that it wasn’t, just as he’d expected, a random stranger, but, indeed, an acquaintance - or dare he say it - a friend. Coal-rimmed eyes went wide as he realized who of all people was fast asleep beside him.
