i am Completely Obsessed with this feature i saw in a house on some home improvement show my parents were watching, the parents had built a bunk bed for their kids in a closet. the people on the show weren’t a fan i guess but i adore the concept and i can’t stop thinking about it. this wasn’t a bed you pull out of the wall, the beds are always deployed they’re just behind a door.
i mean this is the sickest shit ever. it’s a cozy little space, you can open or close the doors as much as you want, you wont have a bed taking up space in your Actual Room, i think more houses need to have bed closets alongside regular closets tbh this needs to be the new norm
Y’all, I love it! We went back to the paint store and told them they gave us the wrong color. They were happy to tweak it just a tiny bit (they needed to add a bit more red), and now it’s the mustard I wanted instead of the bright yacht yellow we had. DH worked all day on hanging the door, putting on the new hardware (we changed out the silver door handle and lock for bronze), and wiring in the sconces. I painted the door so I contributed. I’m really, really happy with it.
What color should I paint our front door? I need to redo the white trim, and DH added some trim which means I will have to prime. I figure I may as well do the door too since I’ll have painting supplies out. I don’t even have a sense of the general color I want to go with. Again, this is not my area of expertise. I do know that I don’t want black. Throw your ideas out at me.
Try not to look at our front steps. We had to remove parts of them in order to manage the corner on the new siding. They’ve needed replacing for a long time. If nothing else, we need hand rails. I feel so bad that I have a child with cerebral palsy, and we haven’t had hand rails on these steps in the more than ten years we’ve lived here. Particularly, considering the inclimate weather we get in the Midwest. Cement is expensive so we had an estimate done at one point, and then decided to wait because money. We are now hoping to replace with decking material.
DH hung the last piece of insulation tonight. We spent all day insulting on Sunday and then he spent most of today finishing the back side of the house. This project has been waaaaaay more stressful than I anticipated. Maybe because we hadn’t planned to insulate?
More than likely it’s because the people we hired to do the work have not been very good at communicating, so we’ve hit a few roadblocks which they seem to be uber offended by. I was super anxious about it for the last two weeks. Today I decided they can be crabby if they want, but I’m not going to let it get to be. They have been here daily for more than two weeks at this point and still have most of the siding to go.
The owner told us that less than 1% of homeowners that he works with do the work themselves, and I think they hate that they have to work alongside us. Whatever man. I don’t have enough cash to just float your way for everything you seem necessary at the last minute.
The job is supposed to be finished this week. I can only hope. It is SO disregulating for all of us. Constant pounding. The trailer of supplies parked in our driveway. The yard is a mess because of all of the construction. The music they have blaring. I mean I get it, but it’s a lot and it has been a lot for too long.
I hope it looks nice when it’s done because I never want to do it again. Ever.
We had a small roof that hung above the back door here. We had to remove it because the wood was rotting, and there were several wasp nests in there. In addition, it was just making putting siding up back there very tricky. However, I want some coverage over the back step, and I don’t want a metal awning. Any ideas?

Y’all, I have had it with the work crew at our house! Initially, they said it would be a three week project. Then they called and said they were starting early. Now they have been here more than three weeks and they’re all of a sudden gone today???? But their trailer is in our driveway which means we can’t park in our driveway, and one of our dormers still is not sided, and all of their crap is still in our yard. I am over it. Over them. Over this project. I want some of my personal space back. I want our kids to be able to have a schedule and normalcy and self-regulation. We called the office twice. No one has called back to let us know what is happening. I’m done. Totally done. And I still have to pay them.
We paid half up front. I’m sure the second half is going to be more than what they initially quoted us because they had to put some plywood on the roof. We bought the plywood but I believe the labor is extra. We’ll see. I hate waiting on the unknown bill. Anxiety provoking.
Wanted you guys to be the first to know - I’ve officially lost a whole pound!!!! Bring out the marching bands and banners!!! I’m 4 pounds to pre-kid weight, though I’d like to tip the scales even further during this quarantine, this is the first actual progress I’ve made. 172 babies 💚 be forewarned, there will be tears when I reach the 160s, being older, a working wife/mom and limited time has made this harder than I thought, but slow and steady wins the race…. right??
Nothing else is really happening aside from me roping dad into helping me patch some drywall in the kids bathroom next week while I’m off. Party central here - luckily we have all the goods to do it, have just lacked the time - oh happy day.
My plan is to paint the ceiling like a nights sky and the walls as a jungle or something, using the kids hand prints as leaves and flowers. It’s a small space and it’ll be fun.
