Okay so one thing that I think is INCREDIBLY and ASTOUNDINGLY cool is how far photographic technology has come and that we’re able to capture true to life images of our world.
Because I’m sometimes a history buff and I think the fact that we can only view, for example, the year 1913, through black and white, often staged or low-quality images affects our entire perception of that era.
But in 2113 people will be able to see full colour, accurate photographs of the world in 2013, and be able to (presumably) access things like Google streetview archives and see what their street looked like 100 years ago. Like, that’s soooo cool.
I always wonder about history around my neighbourhood, but as far as I know there are only a few photographs on the nearby main street that were taken in the 50’s (when it was just a young suburb), and a few photos of buildings in a village that was up the street (because my actual neighbourhood was just farmland a century ago). But it’s amazing to imagine accessing some Google streetview archive of the year 1913 and moving around my neighbourhood and seeing what buildings were there and what the trees looked like and the vehicles of the time and people going about day to day business. And in the future that’s how people will look back at history.
Also they’ll be able to see Vine compilations and dumb stuff like that but that’s beside the point, I absolutely envy the history buffs of the future.
