READ ME: The stance of Radical Moderate is not reflective of Art-Res as a platform or all of its community, but rather a feature for an independent artist that has chosen to share their thoughtful work, and also help keep the lights on over here. I also believe in the power of constructive conversation.
The creator has shared with me what the message they are going for:
“The spin I was going for with the “Radical” part is the idea that being moderate isn’t passive. I’m behind progressive everything. :) No one view is right all the time because the idea of “right” is ever-changing and ever-dependent on a person or society’s moral compass.”
If you do not agree with the creator’s view/work, I encourage you to make your own art and consider contacting me for a feature, just like Radical Moderate did. That’s the beauty of art, a diversity of voices and learning about opinions that are not always the same as yours.
I chose to feature this because I do not believe in censoring artists, even if the artist’s view is not identical to mine. I also do not see any hate crime/lack of thought in their artwork. There is some truth to finding balance and peace with both sides in order to make progress. Being balanced and open minded should not mean just passive to injustice or wrong doing. Action and progress will not happen if there is only bashing. Of course, people do need to be accountable, but certain approaches are more effective than others in producing the results you want.
Many activists have made the most progress by educating the other side and not simply denigrating them, because that is an immediate turn off, even if it feels justified/good.
The entire theatre world is full of criticism. Shocker I know. Don’t dish out constructive criticism than get offended when it’s dished back to you. If you don’t like constructive criticism / can’t handle it you are in the wrong business. Unfortunately this is the business of thick skin.
