They’re a band from the 80s. You might know who they are, or you might have only heard a couple of their songs (“Karma Chameleon,” anyone?). But all that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the lead singer Boy George and the drummer Jon Moss, were in a relationship for quite a bit of the time they were in the band. I only know this because I used to be a big Culture Club fan back in high school, and thank goodness I was, because I can now compare them to Larry Stylinson.
They tried to hide their relationship, but was hard to hide how they looked at each other and how they interacted. While we don’t have that many videos of Boy George and John Moss in interviews and such (it was the 80s), I have some pictures to see how a real band romance compares to Larry Stylinson. I think you’ll find a lot of similarities.
This all looks pretty familiar, doesn’t it?
As Jon Moss himself said, “It was pretty obvious what was going on … Everyone knew we were dating, especially in Japan, where they had cartoons of us kissing with hearts above our heads.” He goes on to talk about how people will deny anything they don’t want to be true in the same interview: “I remember when Liberace passed away, and they were asking his audience, ‘Do you think he was gay?’ And they were like, ‘No, he wasn’t gay.’ They bloody well knew he was gay, but they didn’t want to think about it.”
This being similar to Larry Stylinson seems pretty clear to me, but this is just something I noticed, so feel free to disagree with me.
