Everything Wrong with the Westernization of Chakras
As a yoga instructor and witch, this is something I come across every day. As a white woman who is definitely not Buddhist or Hindu, I don’t wish to speak for or over anyone, so please inform me if I’m mistaken.
That said, I am distraught by the westernization of the chakra systems and would simply like to shed some light on the truth.
1. CHAKRA SYSTEMS
The idea of energy centers commonly known as chakras originated from Tantric Yoga around 600 AD. Tantric yoga describes several different chakra systems, including but definitely not limited to the one shown in the picture above. There’s even a system with 21 chakras! Western culture has presumed to define one chakra system, and one system only, defining those chakras and saying “that’s how it is,” without taking into account the full theory.
2. CHAKRA MEANINGS
In western culture, every chakra has a meaning. For example, the crown chakra causes loneliness and depression if it’s imbalanced. Where did that idea come from? There is literally no mention of anything like that in Indian texts (and don’t worry, I’ll add sources at the end so you can check for yourselves).
3. ACTUAL ASSOCIATIONS
Y’all ever heard of mudras? How about “om”? This is what the chakras were actually meant for- the yogi was meant to chant a specific sound that resonated with the chakra in order to summon energy from whatever Hindu deity was associated with that particular chakra. Nowadays, we use chakras as a way to heal our thyroids, or to unlock compassion in our hearts or whatever. Again, where did that come from??
You know what? That’s all I’m going to get into. I’m not in the place to assume that I know everything about chakras, but neither are you witches with color-coded shelves on which you keep your crystals associated with each chakra, or you yoga instructors with your statues of the Buddha in your studios.
If you aren’t Hindu or Tantric Buddhist, and the chakra system actually works for you, I’m not asking you to stop using it. Just maybe don’t call them chakras?
Because long story short, the western idea of “chakras” is all made up and has almost nothing to do with the origin of the theory. And presuming to say that your way is the right way just because you meditate for five minutes a day and went to a yoga retreat in Bali that one summer? That’s called cultural Appropriation my friend.
Lucid dreaming can be a very powerful and enlightening experience, it can be scary but amazing at the same time. It can provide you with a shift in perspective, and help you become aware of yourself and the world around you at a deeper, more meaningful level.
What Is Lucid Dreaming?
Strictly speaking, lucid dreaming is a state in which you are halfway between sleep and consciousness. In this state, you are able to take charge and explore your dreamscape at will. You can control the scenarios that unfold, and add, or remove elements as you please.
You’ve probably experienced this at some point or another. Everyone is capable of having lucid dreams, though few can actually trigger them at will. Doing this requires a lot of training, and mental preparation.
However, this process of learning how to control your dreams can be just as rewarding as the actual practice of lucid dreaming. It helps you become more aware of the inner workings of your mind.
How You Can Benefit
Harnessing the power of lucid dreaming can help you reach new levels of self-awareness. Dreams are the subconscious’ way of trying to work through problems, and frustrations. They are an indication of your deepest desires, and your most burning needs. It can help you achieve higher consciousness.
When you are not in control of your dreams, the scenarios tend to unfold much like a movie. You can’t interact at will with the elements of your dream, you can’t experiment, and you can’t really change the story. Your subconscious mind dominates you.
Lucid dreaming allows you to explore, interact, and shape a whole world of boundless possibilities. Your imagination is truly the limit when it comes to what you can do in this universe. As long as you learn how to induce this state, and recover those experiences after waking up, you’ll have a boundless supply of creative energy all throughout the day.
Scientists have only just begun to look into the subject of lucid dreaming, and it may take a while before we are truly going to understand how they work, and what their effects are. But whatever the findings will be, know that this is a very personal experience, and no two people are going to perceive in the same way.
Techniques For Taking Control of Your Dreams
Lucid dreaming can sometimes happen naturally. If you truly want to harness their powers, there are number of things you can do to induce this state. Some of these techniques are more advanced than others, so don’t be disheartened if it takes a while before you can activate your consciousness during sleep.
Use a Personal Mantra
This is a very good technique for beginners, since it does not require a lot of preparation. Simply close your eyes, and repeat a phrase that will help you visualize entering the lucid dreaming state. It can be something like “I will take charge of this dream”, or “I am in control”. For this technique to work, no matter phrase you decide to use, it is essential that you say it with conviction. Avoid using words like want, or hope to. You need to convince your subconscious that you will be in control, no matter what.
Visualizing Your Chakras
This method relies on the spiritual power of your chakras, more specifically your Third Eye and the Crown Chakra, to help you attain consciousness during your dreams. The Third Eye governs vision, insight and intuition. It is associated with the verb to see. The Crown Chakra helps you attain inner knowledge, self-awareness and tranquility.
While you are lying down, focus your inner vision on one of these points. Clear your mind of thoughts and emotions, and let yourself slowly fall asleep. These two chakras will help your mind stay anchored in consciousness, as your dreams slowly begin to unfold. These two energy points will act as a beacon, as you start exploring the dream world before you.
Preparing a Symbol
If you find that your dreams contain recurrent symbols, such as specific objects, or people or even words, try to focus on them before falling asleep. Visualize them as you are about to slip out of reality. When you spot them in your dream, your mind will remember that these are key elements of the dream world, and thus you’ll become aware of the fact that you are in a dream.
Keep a Dream Diary to Record Your Experiences
In order to reap the benefits of the insights you’ve gained once you are awake, it’s a good idea to keep a dream diary. Dream diaries can help you spot recurrent patterns, and symbols you can use to enhance your techniques. They will also help you record the experiences that might otherwise be lost upon waking up.
Dreams hold a great power, and insights. Don’t let these powerful learning tools go to waste, and take charge of your subconscious mind with the power of lucid dreaming.
Our aura possesses very sensitive information about who we truly are.
There is coded information about our past, our present and our future.
Our aura vibrates differently according to our current emotions.
Moreover, a strong aura can help us achieve miracles in magic.
The aura is a way of communicating with our environment. Therefore, when our aura is cleansed and strong we can benefit from healing sessions and nature’s magic.
In the same way, when our aura is strong, it can prevent attacks. Hence it can repel physical and emotional illness. (Of course, when facing medical problems we should ALWAYS consult first our doctors and/or psychologists.)
1. Smoke Cleasing
What is Smoke Cleansing?
Smoke cleansing is using smoke to cleanse an area of negative energies. For example, you can use the smoke of frankincense which elevates the spirit.
2. Wearing black
When you are under attack, you should wear black. If you are not sure – check here to see if you have to signs of psychic attack or negativity. Black colour provides shielding. It’s like an invisibility cloth which can actually give you some time when you are under attack. However, you should not wear black for a long time as black shields us from all types of energy both good and evil. Therefore, we should use this colour only to fight back and repel the attack. Then we get back to any colour we like. See here more about Colour Magic and what energy each colour vibrates.
3. Crystal Magic
Having a black tourmaline with you can help against psychic attacks. It’s quite affordable and you can wear it as a piece of jewellery or carry it with you.
Moreover, you can have a black obsidian with you. This particular stone can help you ground you energy and dispel negativity which is all over you.
This simple technique can work miracles when our aura is under attack. Grounding is in fact ‘becoming one with Mother Earth’. Who can mess with our Great Mother? No one of course.
Hence, grounding every no and then can act as a powerful ‘medicine’ against psychic attacks. Moreover, by grounding we attune ourselves with the healing energies of Nature. This is really important, when already damage is done.
5. A small Charcoal
Charcoal can help us attune with the power of our Mother Earth. As written in the article of Magical Protection: ‘A small charcoal piece in your pocket (wrapped in a paper towel so that you don’t get messy) can protect you against evil eye, curses, negative spirits, and psychic attacks. Have three of them on a white plate under your bed while sleeping to get the same results. After every use, wash the charcoal pieces under cold running water.’
6. Holy Water
It’s affordable and one of the most powerful magical tools ever. Making holy water is really easy and you can do it whenever you can. Of course you can also get some from your church or the temple you feel more comfortable with.
The Holy Water dispels negativity, cleanses the aura, and nourishes our spirit. Learn more about how to make and use holy water here!
7. The Eye of Horus
One of the most powerful and ancient symbols. The Eye of Horus is actually our master tool against any dark magic. Horus is the personification of the winning of Good against all evil. The Eye of Horus is considered one of the most potent talismans against evil. It is believed to enhance our spiritual awareness and attune with the Divine Source. Get an ‘Eye of Horus’ here. You can actually charge the Eye of Horus for extra magical protection. It will help you shield your aura.
Chant 7 times these rephrased verses from the Book of the Dead:‘Let The Eye of Horus be my Protection,
“O Osiris, Foremost of the Westerners, let it spread its protection over me as it did with You,may no harm come to me and no one can harm me!’
Hello my lovlies! Since I’ve recently created a tarot reading to balance your heart chakra, I’ve decided to talk about it here as well and explain it further.
Where is it located? It is located in the center of the chest. The energy is not located where our actual heart lies, but the actual center of the chest. What is the heart chakra? The heart chakra, or Anahata, is the center of love, balance, and connection. It doesn’t just affect our love and affection for others, but also for ourselves. What are the signs of a blocked heart chakra? From time to time each chakra develops blockages. These blockages can be bigger or smaller and will usually make you feel physically and emotinally off balance. Some of the signs are:
Lack of empathy
Fear of intimacy and jealousy
Not being able to forgive
You rely on other’s approval and attention
You struggle to give or receive love freely
You feel disconnected from the people around you
Difficulty trusting others
Fear of commitment and feeling like you have to please others to be loved
How can I open and balance my heart chakra? This is definitely different for each individual and that’s something my tarot reading can surely help you with, but some general ways that are/could be very useful are:
Self love and self acceptance practice
Allowing yourself to receive love
Being grateful and showing graditude
Practicing EFT ( Emotional Freedom Techniques)
Using positive affirmations as:
- I am fully open to giving and receiving love. - I forgive myself. - I forgive others. - I love myself unconditionally. - I love others unconditionally. - I choose joy. - My heart is free from past hurts. - My heart chakra is empowered by love. - It is safe for me to be in a loving relationship. - I deeply, and completely, love and accept myself. - I am peaceful.
If you still have some questions on this topic, please feel free to message me. I’m not an expert but I’ve learned about this on my personal journey. If you are still not sure what to do but you do feel like your heart chakra is blocked take a look at my reading becuase you could definitely use it as a
guidance. Have a blessed day x
The Chakra system originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC in the oldest text called the Vedas, according to this ancient Hindu scripture the human body has 7 energy points that start at the base of your spine and expand to the top of your head. You have more than your physical body, the chakra system can be thought of as your “energy body.” When one of these chakra points are out of balance, it can cause disease within the body, and the symptoms can be mental, physical, emotional or spiritual. These 7 chakras that originated from eastern medicine happen to align with modern medicine and are known as our Endocrine System. Yes, our chakras have much to do with the human body’s glands. A variety of health problems may be caused by Chakra Imbalances affecting the associated Endocrine Gland and resulting in illness. Whether a chakra is overactive or underactive it can cause problems within the body. When you balance your chakras you will have control of your mental and spiritual health as well as your physical health.
So what are each of the 7 chakras? They each serve a specific purpose and are interconnected. If one is imbalanced, you will not achieve true alignment and optimal wellness. The lower level chakras are more “physical” chakras that deal with you as an individual - the upper chakras are “spiritual” chakras that focus on higher dimensional frequencies. Let’s begin with the Root chakra located at the base of your spine.

Is there a color that you just can’t stand? A specific color that just hurts your eyes or one that you naturally draw away from?
Colors are a great way to see where it is in your life that you need healing. If you aren’t familiar with the Chakra system and the colors that pertain to each chakra, I suggest you do some research and learn about each. Knowing about these energy centers in your body can help you heal and balance yourself. With each chakra comes a different color(s) and overall energy.
Here are the chakras and the corresponding colors.
Root Chakra - Red, also black, brown, and darker earthy colors.
Sacral Chakra - Orange, also pink and bright red shades.
Solarplexus chakra - Yellow, all shades of yellow-green, yellow-orange.
Heart Chakra - Green, also pink and white.
Throat Chakra - Blue, tending towards teal or turquoise.
Third Eye Chakra - Indigo, tending towards purple.
Crown Chakra - Violet, also clear or white.
Now, hatred is always a good indicator of where you need to go towards, not away from. Hatred is a strong word, but any of the the similar energies are of the same. If you dislike, don’t understand, stray away from, or just don’t feel drawn to a color, this color is your detriment or possibly even your wound.
For example, I’ve never liked the color yellow. I have memories of reasons why i don’t like the color. In 6th grade, one of my classmates told me yellow was the color of suicide. I’ve always associated yellow with cuts or bruises, or the discharge that comes from wounds. So I just always thought these were the reasons why I didn’t like yellow. But the color yellow corresponds with the Solarplexus Chakra. Every time I had energy readings from psychics and healers, my Solarplexus Chakra is always the weakest. So subconsciously, I tend to dislike or even hate the colors that are my weakest points.
Once you know the color and chakra that is your weakest spot, you can figure out what it is you need to heal. Here is a quick rundown of each chakra and what it means when you hate or dislike the colors as listed above associated with each chakra.
Root Chakra - You deal with issues regarding grounding and ability to stay grounded to the earth. During your upbringing, you dealt with issues that had to do with your basic fundamental human needs such as shelter, food, fear, sex, and these very primal instincts. If you hate the colors associated with this chakra, especially the brown and earthy tones, it is very likely that you need to work on grounding yourself. Your wound is instinctual and primal. You probably have very real fears like hunger or weariness of predators and stability.
Sacral Chakra - You deal with issues regarding fertility or femininity and creation/creativity. Disliking the colors associated with this chakra can mean you have troubles connecting with your divine femininity. It’s hard for you to find the motivation to get inspired to create something, whether that be a piece of work or art. People who have trouble conceiving children definitely have Sacral Chakra issues. If the color you dislike is closer to red orange, the fear you have has more to do with primal instincts like sex and power. While if the color is closer to a yellow orange, your wound is more about your ability to create and bring about life in any form by your own hands and abilities.
Solarplexus Chakra - You deal with issues regarding inner strength, willpower, self respect, and self esteem. When you dislike the colors associated with this chakra, it means you have trouble with self expression and self esteem. You may struggle with having the willpower and inner strength to bring about what you want in life and be who you are, which lowers your self esteem. People with extreme anxiety issues have a very unbalanced Solarplexus Chakra, because the anxiety comes from the inability to exude this inner life force energy, which is where your self esteem and confidence draws from. Your wound is your core.
Heart Chakra - You deal with issues regarding love and compassion towards yourself and others. Hating the colors associated with this chakra shows a lack of compassion and love towards others, but especially towards yourself. During your childhood, you may have had to go through many lessons regarding love with all types of relationships that caused you to close your heart to the world. You may have been hurt or have your love for others abused, making you distrustful of showing such vulnerability again. Your wound is your heart.
Throat Chakra - You deal with issues regarding your voice. Not just your physical voice, but your overall message to the world through your throat. If you dislike the colors of this chakra, it is very likely that you’ve had some traumas related to your ability to speak your truth. During your life, you may have come face to face with many people who have blatantly told you to be quiet or shut up. This has caused you to lose your voice and you may even physically struggle with speaking. Your wound is your throat, your freedom to express your thoughts.
Third Eye Chakra - You deal with issues regarding your ability to see the truth. It’s one thing to be able to speak the truth, but it’s another to be able to see it. If you dislike the colors associated with this chakra, it is very likely that throughout your life, the truth has been withheld from you many times. This has caused you to believe things that may not have always been right and being unable to see whether or not these things are actually true. People who deal with delusions or paranoia on a small or on an extreme level all have issues with the imbalance of this chakra. Your wound is blindness, narrow mindedness, and inability to see truth.
Crown Chakra - You deal with issues regarding divinity and knowledge. This chakra deals with the ability to receive, digest, and discern knowledge, particularly divine knowledge linked to spirit and spirituality. If you dislike the colors associated with this chakra, it is likely that you have a hard time discerning whether or not information/knowledge is divine or from lower energies like gossip or rumors. People who have a very out of balance Crown Chakra tend to be nay sayers, pessimists, and especially those who believe blindly by simply not consciously processing the information they are given from the world. Your wound is knowledge and ability to discern through information to understand truth.
Now just because one of these chakras is your detriment, doesn’t mean you’re doomed. Acknowledgement is the first step towards healing and re-balancing yourself. I truly believe that your lowest detriment is your highest potential achievement. And now that you know where your wound is, you can take the steps towards healing it.
Specific Healing Methods For Each Of Your 7 Chakras
A lot of healing methods for the chakra are available out there. While some of these modalities work, some won’t. All because each chakra is associated with different frequency realms.
Our seven bodily chakras are stacked up like a pyramid. The first chakra being the lowest serves as the wide and heavy base of the pyramid and the highest one or the sixth chakra represents the tip of the pyramid.
It’s light, airy, and easily mutable while the first chakra is dense, heavy, and more difficult to change. In addition, each chakra symbolizes different elements.
Hence, each of these chakras needs different healing modalities. Heal your body by trying out the following methods for each chakra.
Healing Methods For Each Chakra:
First chakra (Root or Muladhara- Red)
This chakra is also related to the sensing element and smell oriented treatments, like aromatherapy work best. Since the element of this first chakra is the earth, gemstones are also best for healing treatments.
Because the first chakra is the densest and most related to the physical body, the best healing comes from very physical activities like the Hatha yoga.
Gardening, especially touching the earth, is a good physical activity associated with the first chakra healing.
Second chakra (Sacral or Svadhishthana- Orange)
The second chakra is still dense and physical, thus Hatha yoga still works best here, especially tantrically oriented yoga and hip poses.
Since this chakra is related to taste, eating chakra healing foods such as oranges, mangoes, and pumpkins is best.
The element of the second chakra is water. Doing aquatic work like Watsu is a healing treatment to this chakra.
Third chakra (Solar Plexus or Manipura- Yellow)
The third chakra is associated with our conscious, mental reasoning, and self image. The best method in healing this chakra is visual therapy like working with yantras and Transformation Power Questions.
Because the element of the third chakra is fire, sun bathing is good. Firewalking is also a good way of stoking your third chakra, only if you’re up for it.
Methods that boost confidence also work best. In addition, actual core work, like power yoga or any breathing that strokes the core, are also best for the solar plexus chakra.
Fourth chakra (Heart or Anahata- Green)
The fourth chakra, which serves as the bridge between the lower or more physical chakras and the upper or more spiritual chakras, responds well to touch. This has been proven by studies where babies thrive when they’re held by nurses and nannies.
Hugging is the best way to boost and balance the heart chakra. Even self hugging works best as well as EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique.
Breath work is also a good treatment because the fourth chakra is related to the air element.
Fifth chakra (Throat or Vishuddha- Blue)
The best method for the fifth chakra is the sound healing which involves two techniques: putting sound out and taking sound in.
You can put sound out by reciting mantras, chanting, seed sounds or even your favorite song that makes you feel good. You can take sound in through crystal bowls, mantras, or your favorite song.
The seed sounds or the shortest mantras for each chakra are:
1st – Lam
2nd – Vam
3rd – Ram
4th – Yam
5th – Ham
6th – Om
7th – Silence (pure consciousness)
Sixth chakra (Third Eye or Ajna- Indigo)
Since the sixth chakra is the ground zero for all our dreams and visualization, the best tool to employ here is visualization. This can be done either inwardly or outwardly.
Inward visualization involves meditation where you have to close your eyes and create a positive world around you, seeing and feeling what you want.
This process changes your entire physiology and causes you to interact more positively and confidently with your external world, fostering a change.
External visualization is done by creating amazing vision boards that help you ignite your creative energy and improve your life.
Seventh chakra (Crown or Sahasrara- Purple)
Meditation is the sole healing method for the seventh chakra. It’s entering into a state of pure, silent, and thoughtless openness, being in a space that we all are.
While all these chakra healing methods are effective in itself, trying out different modalities is also good in finding out the right modality that fits each of your chakra’s needs.
Be aware, though, that you tend to avoid the modality you needed the most. You might be working more on your upper chakras when you need to listen more to your lower chakras.
To achieve the balance, do this: Use more meditative type techniques for the upper chakras and do more physically oriented techniques for the lower chakras. Doing this will surely supercharge your healing practice
a quick story about my first experience with a pendulum
So I have been doing some research into pendulums, how they work, how to use them, etc etc and I thought I was ready to try it out myself. I thought, “why not? if it works, it sounds like a wonderful witchy tool and if not, i got another pretty crystal on a chain and I could convert it into a necklace, win-win” WELL. I went to my favorite metaphysical store in town and got myself a gorgeous amethyst one with a representation of the chakras that was screaming. my. name. Look at her isn’t she precious?
So I took her home, and after a quick consecration/cleansing spell, I decided to follow everyone’s advice and keep it in my pocket/purse for a few days so it could charge with my energy before use. So, me being the impatient little witch that I am, I grabbed a piece of clear quartz that I’ve already had for a while and use as my go-to clear quartz for spells and such, and wrapped the little chain around it like so to help amplify and magnify my energy and help the pendulum absorb it, as well as do all the wonderful things clear quartz does to help.
I went ahead and put this little bundle under my pillow overnight to absorb my unconscious energy, which I thought would be great because one is always more vulnerable and open when asleep, but before that, I thought I’d do a little experiment…
Because I am a rising biochemist with a scientific research mind, I thought I’d treat the process objectively and scientifically just to shake things up (yes, I know witchery isn’t an exact science, but just humor me for a second).
After consecrating it and before bundling it up with the clear quartz and letting it absorb my energy, I held it very still and asked it to show me ‘yes’ and ‘no’. It only vibrated in place ever so slightly, barely moving in either direction for either question. This was my baseline measurement. I slept with it overnight and asked the same first thing in the morning, it vibrated in place a little more obviously but no clear ‘yes’ and ‘no’ could be identified. This was my trial 2. I then took that little bundle and put it in my pocket for the rest of the day. Around 5pm, I tried again and now the difference was huge. ‘Yes’ gave me around a full inch swing to the left and right and ‘no’ gave me front and back. Because it was the first time it actually gave me a distinguishable answer, I thought I’d take it with a grain of salt. I repeated it at 8 and 11pm and the swing of ‘yes’ and ‘no’ has been in the same direction every. single. time. and in every. single. room/position. i’ve tried it in, and only appears to be getting stronger.
I have no choice but conclude that the swing of the pendulum is unaffected by air conditioning/wind or any other external factors, as I have tried many of them. And trust me, my hand has been steady as can be (I work with micropipettes in lab and in an emergency room, needless to say, it’s an occupational necessity).
Therefore, I would like to conclude that my pendulum is successfully absorbing my energy. And I got a definite answer. !!!!
This has been such an incredible experience to witness since I’ve seen the development of the pendulum’s swing grow as it gets used to me.
My little baby is so so so adorable, I’m sure as time goes by, I will get to know it better and it will get to know me better, but it’s only uphill from here, right?
History of Chakras: The word
“chakra” is a Sanskrit word that means “spinning wheel” or “disc”. It is
thought that the word originated when the Aryans invaded India on their
great chariots. The word “chakra” was coined for the turning wheels of
the invaders’ chariots. This was also an analogy for the disc of the
sun, a powerful symbol in many ancient cultures. Different cultures also
developed chakra-like systems, but used different names and used
different ways to explain the chakras. The Jewish Kabbalah referred to
the “sepiroth”, which appears as nine different worlds. The classic
seven chakras originates historically with a man named Sir John
Woodroffe and his interpretation of the Hindu chakra system. Though he
only recognizes seven chakras, there are also many minor chakras that
other practitioners choose to acknowledge as well. Modern practitioners
have the luxury of deciding which chakra system works the best for them.
There are many different paths and options to choose from, so it is
important to listen to your body and decide which is best for you.
Chakra Healing: Chakras facilitate
the flow of energy through the body. Sometimes, one of these channels
can be blocked, causing the energy to stop, and cause a state of
emotional, psychological, and/or spiritual distress. On the other hand, a
chakra can also be overactive, which can also cause a state of
imbalance in the body. Chakra healing is the act of opening these
pathways to facilitate the flow of energy in the body to create a better
sense of well-being. There are a few techniques that can be employed to
rebalance the chakras. I will cover a few now.
1. Food: too much processed food
can cause our bodies harm and make them imbalanced. Eating healthy foods
is vital for the health of the chakras. There are also studies that say
the natural pigments in food can create a new vibrational energy within
our bodies. So, to use food to balance the chakras, it is traditional
to eat foods whose natural pigmentation reflects the imbalanced chakra.
For example, red foods are used for the root chakra and yellow foods for
the solar plexus chakra. The most important thing to consider when
using food for chakra healing is to listen to your body. It knows what
you do and don’t need.
2. Reflexology: this technique is
an ancient one that suggests the palms of our hands and the soles of our
feet reflect the state of our whole body. Using the fingertips to press
on pressure points on the body can restore circulation and energy
cycles. Reflexology is a technique that can also be used to balance
chakras when we consider the correlation between each of the reflex
points on the soles of the foot and the palms of the hand.
3. Kinesiology: kinesiology is a
widely practiced and accepted science, which explores the function of
the muscles in the body. When we think of using kinesiology for chakra
healing, most practitioners use a combination of crystals and essential
oils. The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture can also be considered
4. Aromatherapy: this practice uses
essential oils and other fragrant plant compounds to uplift the mood
and improve health. Smelling essential oils is one technique that can be
used to balance the chakras, but they can also be used in conjunction
with a massage that will open the chakras. Certain essential oils
resonate with certain chakras, and a trained practitioner will know how
to use them.
5. Reiki: this is a form of energy
healing where the practitioner uses their hands to transfer energy.
Reiki is a spiritual healing source, which is said to promote natural
processes in the body. This energy is passed through a Reiki student’s
chakras, making them a channel for spiritual healing energy.
6. Yoga: a common practice, yoga
seeks to align the practitioner with the universal energies. The main
chakra healing benefit of yoga is through its ability to move energy
throughout the body. Performing different poses with the body can open,
stretch, and release the chakras.
7. Crystals: crystals are a natural
energy source that comes from the earth. The same life force that
exists in us comes from the earth and the universe. Crystals are a very
pure form of that energy. The chakras themselves have sympathetic
vibrations with certain crystals, and the crystals vibration can realign
the chakra’s crystal with the energy within the crystal.
8. Color: this is similar to the
way of using food to balance a chakra. Each chakra is assigned its own
color, though these colors often mingle together. In color therapy, the
predominant color of the chakra can be used to stimulate it. Color
therapists also use the color that is the exact opposite of the
predominant color to balance chakras, to create a sense of balance
between the two.
9. Yantras: these are symbols that
represent each chakra, and can be a valuable meditation tool. The
yantras vibrate with the same energy as the chakra, and can be used as a
tool to become more attuned with the chakras.
10. Sound: the energy field or aura
around us responds heavily to sound. Therefore, using different sounds
can connect to different chakras. Like yantras, this can be a very
valuable tool to connecting and understanding blockages and over
activity in the chakras.
The Structure of the Chakra System:
traditionally, chakras appear as spinning wheel of light, constantly
moving and vibrating with energy. One thing not many people realize
however, is that there are both major and minor chakras. Everyone is
familiar with the seven major chakras that align vertically with the
spine, but there are also twenty-one minor chakras at various points on
the body. The chakra system is more complicated than just vertical
points along the spine. Their vibrational energy actually extends
horizontally as well, filling the body’s energy field. Each chakra has
its own sound and color. The chakras job is to evaluate energies it
comes into contact with, and to match those energies with its own
vibration. When we talk about the specific vibrations of each chakra,
the lower chakras generally have a lower vibration that is more on the
physical plane, while the higher chakras vibrate at a higher vibration.
The chakras also act as an important mediator between the two sides of
the body. The structure of the 7 major chakras starting at the bottom
are: root chakra (Muladhara), sacral chakra (Svadisthana), solar plexus
chakra (Manipura), Heart Chakra (Anahata), throat chakra (Vishuddha),
third eye chakra (Anja), and the crown chakra (Sahasrara).
