This December and January, tourists from all the world will flock to Cape Town. It’s a beautiful city and we’re always happy to have tourists. BUT -
The city is facing a MASSIVE WATER CRISIS. We have a DROUGHT. While you’re welcome to enjoy our beaches, mountains and culture - please be mindful of the water crisis. DO NOT TAKE BATHS. The residents of Cape Town are on level 5 water restrictions - less than 87 liters per a day - so it hurts everyone when we see instagram posts of tourists using two days worth of water for a pretty bath picture. Our dams are almost entirely empty. While you’ll get to jump on a plane and travel back home after your holiday, we’ll be running out of water COMPLETELY in March. So if you’re visiting Cape Town this holiday season, please, please, please do not waste water.
(This goes for other countries as well - if you’re travelling somewhere, do a bit of research. Be respectful and considerate)
