TW for burning/branding
Nonnie, I confess, I’m not entirely sure what happened when I sat down to answer this. Branding is a personal weakness of mine, and, eerrhghgh, it got away from me. Please enjoy xD
The whumpee is on their knees, bound in enchanted chains; they’re already haggard and hurt, exhaustion and fear a spread across their face. A priest in a dark robe steps forward holding a red-hot iron. The caretaker must be present for the obedience runes to bond correctly, but they are horrified by what they see. They meet whumpee’s eyes over the fire as the first brand is pressed into their back. There are multiple brands, and each one sinks into the whumpee’s flesh and holds there, sizzling and bubbling while the whumpee convulses and shrieks in their chains. If they pass out, they are woken for the next brand with a rough backhand to the face. Each brand sears away a different part of their soul, another part of their magic cut away. Eventually, the end comes; whumpee is hanging limp in the chains, defeated, broken. The priests beckon caretaker over, and caretaker says the few word of enchantment they’d been given beforehand, to bind the whumpee to their will. They don’t like what they’re seeing, but they’d already agreed - it’s too late to stop. Once the words are out, the last brand sinks into place. The whumpee is grey-skinned and shaking, sobbing in great, dry heaves, eyes glazed over. The last brand garners another full-bodied tremor, then a piercing wail.
This time, when whumpee passes out, they are allowed to stay unconscious.
