❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?
There’s obviously a lot that can be discussed about 6 here, and I do agree with most that has been said. He’s a difficult character to get right.
But I really want to bring attention to 1, as I think a lot of people in the fandom only see what’s on the surface, and then bounce off from that into a lot of things that just does not fit the narrative.
I’ve been in the fandom since the movie came out and I’ve very rarely seen 1 being portrayed in a way that I agree with. It’s either ”he’s an ignorant, irredemable bully”, or ”he’s actually a softie who cares about everyone, he just hides behind his insecurities uwu”.
I have mentioned in other posts that I believe 1 knows exactly what’s going on, he knows who and what the scientist is, he knows that 6 is telling the truth, he probably knows the most out of any of the others and he is terrified because of it. He pretends to be ignorant to keep the others ignorant too, because he believes that they are all better off not knowing, he is incredibly clever and manipulative.
I don’t think he cares about the others as individuals, I think he cares more about them as a collective, hence the ”one must be sacrificed”-thing.
He’s a cunning and manipulative old man who expresses his trauma and depression by pushing others down to feel some sense of control in a world that no one has control over.
1 is not a good person, maybe he knows that, and he is driven by depression and the fear of death. He knows too much and has no control. He built up his own persona to hide all of that, to create the illusion of control.
I just think the fandom simplifies him too much.
