Going Nowhere Fast

@tabasco-vasco

I don't know whats happening

I know I’ve talked about it before but it never ceases to amaze me that the city of Toronto created this labyrinthine series of underground walkways that stretch for kilometres under the heart of downtown and they called it the fucking PATH. like how much more ominous could that even be. It doesn’t even stand for anything it’s just the PATH, all caps. What fucking fae named this artisanal bakery maze.

@asimovsideburns #it doesn’t even stand for anything?????

It doesn’t!!! even stand!! for anything!!!

“PATH is downtown Toronto’s enclosed pedestrian walkway linking 29 kilometres of shopping, services and entertainment connecting Toronto Coach Terminal to Maple Leaf Square/Air Canada Centre. The Acronym (PATH) does not stand for anything - just signals that there is a pathway.”

Like I always lose my mind at this. If it doesn’t stand for anything it’s not an acronym Toronto!! Toronto!!!!!!!!!

Copying my tags:

I’m not exaggerating about the part without a ceiling:

This is, by the way, right under Bay & Bloor, dead centre of the city and some of the most expensive real estate in Canada. It radiates an incredible aura of menace.

Okay far more poeple have reblogged this than I thought and I just wanted to clarify- the horror of the PATH is not that it all looks like a spooky basement where you’re about to get murdered. There ARE spots like that, but to understand the ~vibe~ of the PATH, you have to understand that it is essentially one very large mall co-designed by like, 70+ different corperations who all have different aesthetics. SO, the PATH looks like that, but it also looks like this

and like this

and like this

and like this

Here’s an entrance to the PATH at Union

And here’s another- also at Union

And here’s another a few blocks away, though tbh I have never been able to enter here because it always seems to be locked, no matter how much I want Wendy’s that day.

And you’d think these mixed aesthetics would make it easier to navigate, or at least figure out where you are, but again, there are over 70 different entities designing this shit and not one original thought between them. So while you may well know when you step from one property to the next, whatever the look of your current section it’s more than likely they’re a nigh identical section somewhere further just to confound your mortal sense.

Basically, everyone tagging this with the Magnus Archives is very correct- If any place on earth could be the true domain of the Spiral it’s the PATH, and it’s just a shame Jonny didn’t know about it before the show wrapped up.

Oh my God

It’s actually a great illustration of the failures of capitalism. The PATH isn’t something designed by the city, instead each building has their own section. And because of that, the signage isn’t just inconsistent, it’s actively hostile to you leaving that section. Every incentive points towards keeping you in that one area and not making it easy to find another building.

Also one time I tried to leave the PATH at night through a small set of double doors and while the doors leading to a small atrium opened, the doors leading to the outside were locked, and had I not caught the first doors before they closed I would’ve been trapped in an unheated 2m square between-space, neither in the PATH nor out of it, overnight

THROUGH A RAPIST’S EYES” (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. It may save a life, It may save your life.)

An Article from Neena Susan Thomas

“Through a rapist’s eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interview…ed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.

POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:

1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh – HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ….

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .

b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

I SWEAR THE READING COMPREHENSION ON THIS WEBSITE IS BARELY ABOVE A ROCK

I SWEAR THE FUCKING EUPHORIC REDDIT TIER TAKES ON RELIGION Y'ALL DROOL INTO MY NOTES

RELIGION, ITS BEEN A PART OF HUMAN CULTURE FOR AS LONG AS WE HAVE BEEN HUMANS, WHAT DO YOU THINK YALL THINK? INHERENTLY GOOD OR INHERENTLY BAD? NO NUANCE ALLOWED.

YALL SHOULD COME WITH ME TO THE LOCAL CHUMASH LAND AND TELL EM THEIR RELIGION IS INHERENTLY IMPERIALIST AND EVIL, SEE HOW THAT GOES OVER

WHAT REALLY MAKES ME MAD IS THE SMUG CERTAINTY Y'ALL SAY SHIT LIKE "Tch, what has islam ever contributed to the world? White americans learn some history" USING A MACHINE PROGRAMMED WITH ARABIC NUMERALS AND AN ARABIC MATH SYSTEM INVENTED DURING THE ISLAMIC GOLDEN AGE

LIKE DID Y'ALL KNOW "religion has been used as justification for untold evil" AND "religion is responsible for some of the greatest social and scientific developments in human history" ARE ACTUALLY BOTH TRUE? SORRY IF THATS COMPLICATED BUT THE WORLD REQUIRES USING THAT SAMOVAR OF STALE OPINIONS YOU CALL A BRAIN SOMETIMES

Okay so on the one hand I cannot believe that these are the same characters from the same story, but on the other hand it hurts even more seeing the differences in perspective.

Shouto remembers watching his siblings play together and wanting to be a part of that.

Touya remembers the pain, because being allowed to be with his siblings didn’t necessarily make anything better.

Also the way Natsuo looks at Touya in the first panel just kills me oh gosh please just let him be happy

Dabi’s Reconciliation

Okay, so we all are aware that Dabi is well past redemption, but I think what he both deserves and will likely be given is reconciliation.

Time and again the relationship between Touya and Natsuo had been emphasized in the Todoroki narrative, and Natsuo is the only member of his family Dabi refers to fondly. Natsuo is the only one who was there for him the whole time he was suffering and never hurt him, not even inadvertently.

Now maybe this is just me projecting and wanting Natsuo to have a larger role in the series, but I genuinely believe there is evidence for him to play a key role in talking Dabi down. I will say again that Horikoshi writes very intentionally and uses Checkov’s gun a LOT in his writing. Everything he deliberately sets up pays off down the line, and this is no different. I alway wondered why Hori chose to focus so closely on the Todoroki family, and in the end it has had one of the most major impacts on the series and hero society thus far.

Horikoshi is also notorious for building bonds between his characters that are the difference between victory and defeat in dire situations. If Kirishima never built trust with Bakugou, he would still be stuck with the villians. If Bakugou hadn’t worked through his relationship with Deku, then Deku would have taken the blow and Shigaraki would still be at large. My point being that none of the relationships in this series are superficial, and they have a very real weight in the progression of the plot.

I know everyone is awaiting Natsuo’s reaction to Touya being alive, but it wouldn’t be much of a payoff if nothing came out of it. I’m not necessarily saying that Natsuo is going to come running onto the battlefield (but wouldn’t it be convenient if his college was located in the general area?), but all of their history together has been building up to a reunion of some sort, and it would also be a cop out if they reunited after the battle. I predict that Horikoshi is building up to using the strength of the bond between two brothers who only had each other for years to turn the tide of the battle.

There is something both poetic and powerful in Natsuo Todoroki, a likely quirkless kid who was ignored by his parents for his entire childhood, who grew out of a home of hatred and abuse to go on to be a medical student, to help people, who is so compassionate he has been putting up with Endeavor just to help entertain Fuyumi’s fantasy of a normal family, being the one to turn the tide of the battle.

Everything would really come full circle if Natsuo, a normal college student and a genuinely good, selfless person, could talk down his villianous brother and end up saving Endeavor, the one who ignored him snd cast him aside for his entire life.

Touya Todoroki is now a villain at large, and at risk of murdering the number one hero.

And Natsuo is the only one who can stop him.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

The fact that Dabi outright said that his flames are Endeavor’s is really interesting considering Shoto’s main character developing arc of realizing that his powers are his, not his father’s, and that he is an individual person with autonomy rather than a tool. If you take that same lesson and apply it to Dabi, he will have to learn that his powers and his choice to hurt people are his own, not his father’s.

It’s interesting that his whole goal revolves around holding people accountable for their actions while, in the process, distancing himself from his own actions by shifting the blame to his father. It’s a cycle of hurt and abuse that never stops.

I- I don’t even know what to say to this.

Like we know that Natsuo has secondhand trauma from watching his family experience this extreme physical abuse, but this is just so incredibly painful.

Natsuo and Touya definitely relied on each other, and I’m not surprised that Touya found his support system in Natsuo, but imagine Natsuo dealing with Touya’s abuse and taking on the emotional burden for him as a literal child. It was clear before that Natsuo had a lot of (completely valid) trauma just from being neglected and just watching his family be abused, but this is evident of some severe emotional trauma, especially after Touya died.

Just- imagine Natsuo listening every single day as Touya vents about how much pain he’s in and just watching as he just gets more and more hurt until he just dies. I had always assumed that Natsuo and Touya relied on each other almost equally, Nastuo getting the attention and validation he needed from Touya and Touya relying on him for help after training sessions, but I never comsidered that Touya added to the already straining emotional trauma that Natsuo was putting up with.

Not only did Natsuo lose a brother and a best friend, he likely feels immesurable guilt for not being able to help Touya enough, to be there for him enough. Touya added to his emotional trauma and all of the balance in their relationship was lost when he left, and Natsuo was left alone with all of the weight Touya had placed on him.

Hey thank you so much for the sources!

The world is silent because most of us didn’t know!

Mulan was filmed mostly where these internment camps are located. They are also performing forced sterilization with chemicals. Uighur women are forced to marry Han men. Sexual assault in these internment camps is not unlike what’s happening in ICE/CBP custody. Here’s a list of 83 companies that sourced forced labor from Uighur Muslim people:

Anonymous asked:

Ok I'm a writer but I *always* have issues planning out the plot beforehand. But if I don't, I always get stuck. Would you mind sharing your method?

No problem!

First, you daydream about your story for a month or two or whatever.

Then you get one of these:

All those scenes in your mind? They go somewhere in that graph. (and if you had fun imagining them, your readers will have fun reading them, so they’re the most important!)

- Decide what feeling you want your reader to have when they finish the story. - Decide the ending depending on that feeling. - Now the beginning-- where does your character start, opposite to that ending? - Now you have their inner quest, or the story overall theme. - Now take the most dramatic of all your scenes. That’s your story climax. - Place all your scenes relative to drama - Make sure every point is a consequence of your character’s choices, may they be good or bad consequences.  - Things that are important in Act III have to be presented in Act I - Your midpoint is when your character’s whole worldview turns on its head. In a romance, it probably is the “Oh.” moment. In an action, it may be when the hero realises their agency are actually the bad guys.

Once you fill that graph with important events, place the other satellite events around it depending on how your story progresses. Write where some characters have to appear, where certain plot points have to be mentioned. Bring back your adversaries and recurring obstacles a couple of times, make it all thematic.

After that, rewrite it all in a word document as a bullet point list, make it more detailed, like scene by scene, don’t hesitate to just summarise. Like I have one chapter that’s “And here they kick ass” because action scenes are a future-me problem.

Once you have that long bullet-point list, separate it by chapters. And you have a plan!
